Welcome to this week’s Friday Five!
ONE
My mental health has not been doing well this month. It wasn’t until someone sent me this article that I truly realized why we feel so depleted. I’ve had trouble focusing, concentrating and feeling motivated/productive. Though I have GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) and am not new to some of these feelings, I have felt more sad, isolated and easily triggered/irritated. Know you’re not alone if you’re having these feelings and I hope this article is a helpful resource to understand your very valid feelings.
TWO
So many items are sold out in Nordstrom’s anniversary sale. Two of note still in stock: Zella leggings and my fave Spanx sports bra. I also ended up loving the Natori undies and am ordering some more.
If you’re looking for some similar Nsale items, check out: this waffle knit top (similar to Free People), this color block cardigan, this midi dress and this leopard print tee.
THREE
After taking some photos of our kitchen recently, I realized that my island really needed a larger centerpiece to balance its size. Cailini Coastal to the rescue with the perfect chinoiserie painted floral bowl! I added three faux orchids and moss I ordered on amazon. The size is much more substantial than the way marble bowl I had in the center before and is such a standout piece!
I also got this new cutting board – love that classic french blue!
Our new Kelly Wearstler lamp is settling in and I just adore it. It feels like a sculpture and has such a presence in the space – definitely worth the splurge!
FOUR
We installed our new roman shade which we had made via Tonya Sparkman with Schumacher’s Pyne Hollyhock fabric. It was a big splurge, but it makes such a statement. We chose to do an outside mount to make the window look taller/larger. We didn’t want to drill into the tile, so I applied 8 large 3M velcro hanging strips (each strip pair holds 16lbs) and used a staple gun to apply them to the backing of the shade (I had to use a staple gun because the adhesive part was adhered to fabric, which I worried wouldn’t hold). Then, I removed the backing of the other side with the adhesive and Kevin and I applied it directly to the tile. it has been up for a week and we’ve had no issues. The roman shade is full length and fully operable, but it’s unlikely we will change the length (it’s nice to have the option though!)
I’m also working with Tonya on custom pillows in this Lulie Wallace fabric for Harper’s room. I will also be having custom scalloped monogrammed pillows made by Jacquelyn Reese Linens, a local business that I’m so excited about! The bolster pillow will be made in this classic BRUNSCHWIG & FILS Les Touches fabric. I can’t wait to see it all together and Harper LOVES mint green so she’s really excited for the floral pillows!
FIVE
Y’all are on FIRE with best sellers this week!
- Tons of you ordered these gorgeous oyster prints – I love supporting small artists and her pieces are just beautiful!
- These face masks were a huge hit: I love how they fit, how thick they are (yet breathable) and of course the cute patterns. They’re also being sold at cost. I couldn’t believe my analytics when I saw how many of y’all purchased these – you will love them!
- This Tarte lip balm/treatment is my favorite lip product of 2020. I keep it at my desk and reapply throughout the day. I have clear and watermelon and also ordered rose online.
OTHER THINGS I’M LOVING:
- These beachy art prints
- Pink cabbage plates
- Cherry backpack
- Splatter serving bowl
- Colorful coupe glasses
- Hazen & Co./Alicia Wood earrings (have these and adore them)
- Rainbow bikini
- Scalloped pinboard
- Pink bath mat
Wishing you a great weekend!
Thank you for the article. I am a fellow Hustonian and never comment on blogs (I read several) but I’m in the same funk as you are. I have been working at home since March along with my husband and three teens. I was fine in the beginning but didn’t realize how difficult this prolonged sense of isolation would be. We’ve done our part to social distance for the benefit of our family but man, it’s hard. I wallow in self pity most days and try to put on a brave face. After all, we are doing well financially, both have jobs, and we are healthy but it’s still difficult. Thank you for admitting it’t not easy and providing some normalcy. You are not alone.
