Thank you Merry Maids for sponsoring this post!
When I moved to Houston from Toronto over a decade ago, I remember feeling surprised that everyone I knew seemed to have a cleaning service for their home or apartment. They’d rave about how it saved them time and they could enjoy their weekends without having to dedicate as much time to cleaning and home maintenance. I quite enjoyed cleaning (it’s kind of a stress reliever for me), so I never hired a cleaning service and vowed not to until we had children. Looking back, I’m kind of kicking myself for not having done it sooner.
As a household with two children and two full-time working parents, outsourcing cleaning is one of the best decisions we could make for our family life. Outsourcing our cleaning provides us with an emotional value that is truly priceless. We can make our weekends all about family time and not have to worry about our home needing attention or a long chore list. Of course, we still do laundry, wipe down counters and use our Dyson for quick little messes, etc., but we leave all of the deep cleaning and maintenance cleaning to the professionals, and it’s a game-changer.
Not to mention, our current home can stay so much cleaner between cleanings because the professionals know exactly how to maintain your home. We always had issues with our tile, shower glass and cabinets in our last home and I wonder if we had hired a cleaning service, like Merry Maids, from the start, if it would have kept them in better shape.
A few weeks ago, we had a crew from our local Merry Maids franchise in Houston come to our home to perform a “deep clean” service. Blown away doesn’t begin to describe our reaction, but let’s rewind a bit. Prior to the service, a friendly representative from Merry Maids came to do an assessment on our home and we agreed that a deep clean (where all woodwork, baseboards, etc. are washed by hand in addition to the regular cleaning service) would be a great fit for our home since we hadn’t done a deep clean like that in some time.
When I walked into our home after returning from work, I was just in awe of…well, everything! Not a detail was missed – they even pulled the kids beds away from the wall to dust and clean the baseboards. The state of our home was truly next level and I’m so thrilled with the level of service provided. In the past, we’ve definitely used home cleaners where details were always missed (like rings left around the faucets and spots where I could tell the counters weren’t fully wiped down, baseboards with dust still on them, etc). When I met with Merry Maids , they asked if I had any special concerns and I did mention detail work – they went above and beyond my expectations – our home was literally spotless!
Not only was our home deep cleaned top-to-bottom, but Merry Maids also left us a kit of their home-cleaning products and a hand-written note. Little genuine touches like that really made the service feel even more special and personalized. Their line of maintenance products include a subset of products that are SaferChoice® approved—which means they’re safe and sustainable and have passed stringent criteria established by the United States EPA. If you prefer green cleaning, you can request this line of products be used in your home!
One thing I really appreciated was getting a text message letting me know the Merry Maids crew was on their way to our home – it allowed me to disable our home alarm so it would be off before they arrived. I’m big on communication so this was a huge bonus to me.
Merry Maids is a national brand, but all businesses have local owners and operators. Merry Maids offers weekly, bi-weekly or monthly cleanings to fit any busy schedule. All employees are also extensively background checked – so you’ll have peace of mind for your home. They also undergo a comprehensive training program to ensure consistency in the cleaning of your home. Merry Maids stands by their work – if you aren’t happy with the service for any reason and contact them within 24 hours, someone will come back and take care of the issue. I was also excited to learn that Merry Maids recently started offering home decluttering and organization services.
If you’re looking for a reliable cleaning service for your home, I highly recommend Merry Maids . They take care of the cleanliness of our home so that we can have more time doing what we’d like to as a family and we’re so thankful for that!

I’ve been curious about having a cleaning service and how that works with them accessing your home to clean – particularly if you have pets. I have a cat and a dog; I think the cat would stay out of the way but who knows what the dog would do. Is there an interview process for the specific team (from Merry Maids) that would be working at your house? Does that team change, or would it be the same people every month? How do you feel about the idea of people “going through your stuff”?
Curious of your responses. We have baby #2 arriving in November and while I work part-time, I certainly wouldn’t mind outsourcing the deep cleaning to someone else! I often joke if I could have someone come and JUST clean my bathroom, I’d pay for that!! 🙂
I did not meet the team before they came to clean our home (I did meet with the franchise owner for an assessment of our home though). You can provide a key or code to get into your home – whatever you’re comfortable with. Merry Maids runs extensive background checks for this reason – so you can trust those in your home. Personally, I don’t really feel like a cleaning crew is “going through my stuff” because they are cleaning surfaces or items in a room, not going inside of my drawers or doing laundry, etc. It makes such a huge difference for our family – you can definitely have a crew just come do a deep clean a couple of times a year!
I can confirm how nice it is having someone else come in and clean your home. Life is so much better with a clean house and there just isn’t always enough time in the day to do it yourself. I have professional cleaning done fairly often and I love it.
