Recently I had a major rash develop under my arms (and it included ingrown hairs – ouch!) Somehow my skin had reacted to my natural deodorant after more than six months of use, so I switched to the sensitive version. In the meantime though, my underarms were red, irritated, itchy and angry. I decided to try the unicorn of healing potions – coconut oil. I used Kopari’s coconut melt and my underarms were healed in just a few short days (the jar is huge and will last you awhile). The redness went away, the ingrown hairs were gone and they looked and felt better than ever. I usually use a cotton round and apply it to my underarms so that I’m not getting the oil all over my fingernails (it’s fine to, I just hate feeling oil on my hands). Coconut oil has natural antimicrobial properties and heals skin amazingly and now I use it pretty much every night.

Thanks for sharing! I had a similar issue in the past and didn’t think to use coconut oil, guess I’ll know better if this happens again! I know coconut oil can be used for a lot of different things, have you tested other uses of it that you find work well?
I like it to help heal cuts and scrapes (once they’re already starting to scab), on my knees and elbows where skin is more rough, etc. It’s just a great overall moisturizer and healer!
Have you tried an armpit detox? It’s a mix of bentonite clay and apple cider vinegar to make a paste. Kind of like a mask for your armpits! It’ helps draw out toxins that have been in the body from previous chemicals used in deodorants. It also helps with odor control too-win win!
Yes I have! I did it recently since I had this issue. Prior to that, I had been using the natural deodorant for six months with zero issues, so I didn’t think I needed to do it. But I did try it and I’m not sure if it made a difference or not but it’s definitely worth trying! 🙂
So I remember you talking about this post and me reading it, welp, I am currently in the EXACT same position as you. Used it for about 6 months and all of a sudden I am having the exact symptoms as you. I truly appreciate you writing about this, and how easy it was to navigate through and find this post. I just bought this coconut oil and must switch to sensitive formula. Now since you’re on the other end of tbings, have you had any issues with sensitive formula? And which brand do you use now? Thanks so so so much again! So nice knowing someone is going through the same thing!
I still use Native – they were awesome and sent me the sensitive one an it has been great!
