It’s rare that a week goes by where a package from Amazon doesn’t come to our door. I love sharing recent purchases because they’re usually things that better our homes and lives or everyday essentials (thank you subscribe + save!) Here are my recent orders:
NATUREPEDIC 2-IN-1 ORGANIC COTTON MATTRESS
We’ve purchased this mattress for both of our kids – it has one side that is a quilted organic cotton and one side that is totally waterproof, so it’s the perfect mattress for potty-training toddlers. When they’re fully potty trained, you just flip it over to the other side. I researched a lot before we bought this one and after learning about off-gassing in traditional mattresses, I wanted to ensure that theirs wouldn’t and that’s why we went this route. Kids spend so much time in their beds so it was worth the splurge for us. The mattresses never had a smell or off-gassing at all.
GYMNASTICS/DANCE LEOTARD
Harper started gymnastics again this fall and I found the cutest leotards on amazon for $15. She doesn’t like the ones made of the typical material because they can be “scratchy” so these soft, stretchy cotton ones are the perfect solution and have the cutest flutter sleeves. Would look adorable with a monogram too!
GLASS MEAL PLANNING CONTAINERS
After reading the recent news about even BPA-free plastics not being ideal for microwaving, we switched to glass everything for heating food. I stopped using my beloved plastic meal planning containers and switched to these glass ones. To be honest, I love them even more. The one downside is that they’re obviously heavier, but the lids are 1000 times better and they don’t leak. In retrospect, the kids of the plastic ones were always a hassle and hard to snap on. If you haven’t made the switch yet – I highly encourage it. It’s healthier and the containers are way better and the perfect size for a lunch portion of food. I usually put two thin chicken breasts inside and top with tons of veggies.
SHOE STORAGE SHELF
About six months ago I purchased some stacking baskets to address the horrific shoe situation in our downstairs closet. They worked for a while but it was never the perfect solution. They didn’t fit a ton of shoes and it felt so messy to throw them into the baskets. Additionally, the small closet still felt so crammed and claustrophobic. Looking for another solution, I came upon this shelf which can store up to 50 pairs of shoes. We weren’t able to utilize the entire shelf because the closet wasn’t tall enough, but we got most of them in there and we got lucky because it was the PERFECT width. Even a half inch more wouldn’t have worked. The shelves are actually more stable since they’re held in there by the walls and they fit SO many shoes. We used to have a lidded basket at the front door to collect more of our shoes and we don’t even need that anymore. This shelf allows the closet to have more of a “walk in” feel and I’m kicking myself for not doing it sooner! I thought about having rows of shelving installed all around the perimeter of the closet, but that would cost a lot more and this solution has been so fantastic. It would be great for a garage too!
MAYBELLINE FIT ME LOOSE FINISHING POWDER
I asked my friend Meg what drugstore loose powder she recommended and she told me she thinks this one is even better than the nearly $40 Laura Mercier powder I usually use. After a solid two weeks of using it, I can’t say I disagree. It’s awesome and so inexpensive. The frustrating thing about loose powder is that one container doesn’t last super long and it’s pricey. Not anymore! This one is under $5 and works so well. Gives skin a finished look, helps foundation stay in place and keeps skin looking great. I’m sold!
LARGE WHITE BATH TOWELS
I don’t know if it’s because I’m tall or what, but I can’t stand a small bath towel. I hate the size of most “regular” bath towels – they just don’t cover my body like I want them to when I get out of the shower. I recently realized that I should just replace our towels with the beach sized ones or “bath sheet” size. I ordered some 35 by 70 inch ones on amazon and they’re due to arrive this week and I can’t wait. I know this is such a small thing, but it really does make a difference to me and I love feeling the warmth of a nice big towel.
ORGANIC PUMPKIN SPICE
It’s September and I’m unapologetically crossing into pumpkin spice everything territory. Sorry, not sorry. I love adding pumpkin spice to my lattes so I’ll be keeping this at my desk to enjoy all fall long.
DOWN PILLOW INSERTS
There’s nothing I love more than a decorative pillow that you can “karate chop.” Down inserts are the key to this – but did you know it’s best to buy the insert two inches larger than the actual pillow case? This ensures that the pillow is fully filled out and looks plush and comfy like a cloud, ha. I recently ordered these and I’ll share how they look on Instagram stories soon.
PINEAPPLE BOOKENDS
So many of you loved the Pottery Barn Kids pineapple bookends I purchased for Harper’s room but they’re sadly sold out! No worries, I found this dupe on amazon! Super similar and so cute for a kids space or even an adult bedroom or for styling book cases!
BLACK AND WHITE GINGHAM DOOR MAT
This is THE mat you’ll see all over Instagram for fall. It will likely be flanked by pumpkins or layered with a mat with a pumpkin-related saying. Get one here or here.
FELT LETTERBOARD LETTER ORGANIZER CASE
If you have a felt letterboard, this case is a life-saver. It organizes all of your letters and numbers so they’re easy to find!
Have a great week!
We too only use glass for food prep (Pyrex brand), but I do wish it was easier to find glass containers with sections! There are certain lunches we make that I’d prefer some separation between sides.
Yes it would be great to have sectioned ones! Hope they create some soon (or maybe I haven’t looked hard enough!)
