Thank you Walmart for sponsoring this post!
Skin care has been a huge focus of mine this past year. I’ve invested in a ton of great products and have seen a huge difference in the way my skin looks and feels. However, I still deal with redness, occasional breakouts that leave dark marks, and under eye puffiness/circles when I don’t get enough sleep.
Concealer is such an important part of my beauty routine because I truly believe that in addition to great skin care, you need to use the right products to create an even, glowing complexion. I’ve always been a fan of color-correcting concealers and I finally found one that is affordable and has everything you need in one palette to fix any skin concerns or discolorations. NYX’s Makeup Color Correcting Palette retails for $11.97 at Walmart.com and has all of the shades you need to correct various skin concerns. I used this palette to create the look you see in these photos.
These color-correcting palettes are all about color theory. I took a color theory class in college (nothing to do with my major, but I had to choose a science elective) and part of the class discussed opposite colors. For example, you can use a peach toned concealer to combat dark (purple/blue) under eye circles and a green toned concealer to help hide the redness of a blemish or red acne mark.
As an adult, I still get hormonal breakouts once a month, so having the right products to create even skin with an airbrushed appearance is important (and not just on “bad” skin days, but every day). It’s true that when you work on your skin care, your skin will look better overall and need less, but I still like to wear a medium coverage foundation and use other concealers that help hide redness, conceal blemishes and brighten my under eye area. I have areas of redness around the sides of my nose and mouth and I always use concealer to brighten my under eye area.
Today I’m sharing an everyday makeup look I created using affordable NYX Professional makeup products, all available from Walmart.com, with free 2-day shipping for qualifying orders over $35.

The key to using a color correcting palette like NYX’s Makeup Color Correcting Palette is to apply your foundation first. I know it seems counter-intuitive, but if you apply concealer first, you’ll be moving it around too much and wiping it away when you layer foundation over it. So step one, cleanse your skin. Then pat dry, apply any skincare serums and sunscreen. The first product you’ll apply is a primer to create a perfect surface for the rest of your products. As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, I’m using NYX’s Honey Dew Me Up Primer. The key with this one is to wait a few minutes for the primer to fully dry before applying anything else. If you have any breakouts, I’ve actually found the primer to be a great layer to smooth down any flaking and redness (the primer contains ingredients that combat redness). Apply your foundation and then it’s time to color-correct. I apply the green concealer with a small brush to any areas with redness (make sure to blend it in) and the peach concealer under my eye area and in the inner corners of my eyes.
After color-correcting redness in particular with green concealer, I’ll use a regular concealer over it to fully mask the blemish. The green neutralizes redness but you still want to top it with a skin-colored concealer to fully minimize the imperfection. To finish your skin, apply NYX’s High Definition Finishing Powder with a large fluffy powder brush – apply sparingly and with a light touch. It helps mattify skin and set your makeup.
Other products I used in this look are NYX’s Lip Lingerie in the color “silk indulgent” which is such a beautiful nude/pink color that applies matte. I topped it with NYX’s Butter Gloss (creme brûlée) and it was the perfect combination. This formula was smooth, easy to apply and made my skin look brighter and more awake with that pop of color on my lips.
I also used the pink shadow from the NYX Love You So Muchi eyeshadow palette in the inner corners of my eyes and the light brown one in my crease to define my eyes.
I hope you enjoyed this post! I love soft, natural-looking makeup and glowing skin and these NYX Professional makeup products from Walmart.com are amazing, affordable options to create the look you see here!
You’re so pretty that I just have a feeling you don’t even really need all this stuff to look as good as you do 🙂
