There’s nothing more timeless and versatile than button-up shirts. They’re something you’ll wear year after year and stick around in your closet. I wear button-up shirts to work a lot because they’re easy to pair with pants or a skirt and can be worn tucked-in or un-tucked. They’re great as a stand-alone piece or layered under blazers and cardigans and I’ve also enjoyed pairing statement necklaces with them, especially around the holidays— it’s such a pretty look!
Nordstrom carries a ton of really cute plaid shirts, especially now that we’re fully into fall and approaching the holiday season. You can see a few of my favorite plaids here, here and here.
Today I’m sharing one of my favorite plaid shirts. Did you know that Nordstrom now carries select items from J.Crew? I was surprised and excited to learn this since it means I can order J.Crew items with free shipping and not have to meet an order minimum!
I paired this shirt with my trusty AG super skinny legging jeans in black (they’re still on sale for 33% off!), a new wool hat with the cutest tassel detail (on sale for 40% off) and my favorite cutout booties (FYI they fit TTS).
I also styled this shirt with a long cardigan and a utility vest. It’s such an easy piece to incorporate into almost any outfit! I saw this amazing family holiday photo on Pinterest recently and thought this shirt would be perfect for that look! plaid shirt (mine is a size 4) | super skinny legging jeans | cutout booties (FYI they fit TTS) | earrings | sunglasses | long cardigan (I love that it comes in this beautiful light gray too!) | utility vest | wool hat (this wool hat from last week’s post is also 40% off)
Here it is with the long cardigan and wool hat...
and with the utility vest…
My love for plaid is only matched by my love for gingham, so I decided to also style a similar look with a different print and a cocoon cardigan. I also switched up my booties to my pointed-toe wedge booties, which I’m still wearing a ton as temps cool down a little bit here.
This cardigan is SO soft. It’s a nice deep charcoal and works well with a lot of fall colors. It comes in a light gray and soft pink color now too and I’m seriously contemplating a second one because it’s so comfy.gingham shirt (another option in blue!) | cocoon cardigan (love this light gray one too) | wedge booties | super skinny legging jeans | earrings | sunglasses
Do you love to wear button-up shirts? Do you prefer solids or prints? I actually love both and own a good balance of solids and prints.

I love that cardigan- looks so comfy! i always get wary with button downs because i feel like they stretch/gap at my boob area, but it looks great on you!

I see these AG Jeans EVERYWHERE! I’ve been looking for some distressed denim but every pair I’ve tried seems to stretch out way too much. How are these in terms of stretching?
They are amazing! hold their shape so perfectly that’s what I love about them 🙂
I ordered them! My credit card bill thanks you haha 😉
Lovely ways to wear it..so inspiring!!!
