I love adding touches of black and white to both our home and my closet and I especially love black and white patterns to add a little dimension and interest to a room. In today’s post, I’m sharing some of my recent (and not so recent) favorite B&W purchases.
The first is this black and white striped light with tassel from the Emily + Meritt Collection at Pottery Barn Teen. I was purchasing these sheets for Harper’s big girl bed when I spotted the perfect light fixture for our new office.
I wanted a bold piece that would add a little drama to the room and this light fixture really delivers. It’s large, has a bold pattern and is finished off with a gold chain and black tassel— a great combo. I was able to select every piece of lighting in our new home and I had the builder hang this fixture so that it can be seen from the living room as you look to the office. It’s just perfect!
It’s hard to get a clear photo of it because of the light coming into the room (and please ignore the fact that the office is currently the place where we keep the boxes we try to pretend don’t exist), but I’m so excited to finish this space! I have plans for a gallery wall, a new chair for the desk and styling those gorgeous built-in shelves. Continuing on the decor front, I continue to be obsessed with these dalmatian print pillows from ElemenOPillows on Etsy. I purchased these for our sofa in our last home and loved them so much that I also picked up a couple of euro shams for the master bedroom. It’s a fun print and breaks up our all-white bedding a little.
I love Turkish towels and this striped one from West Elm that we got a few years ago continues to be a favorite and looks so chic in any bathroom or kitchen. This exact one is no longer available, but I love this version (bonus- it’s on sale!) I also love these and these.
We were doing some furniture shopping over the weekend recently and we stumbled into Janie and Jack where we found this sweet little knit romper for baby boy. I thought it would be really cute for photos. It was on sale for $16.97 plus an additional 25% off so it was a total score!
I’m super late to this trend since every blogger and their mom already has these, but I can’t resist a) a pointy toe flat; b) scalloped edges; and c) lace-up with gold detail, so of course I picked up a pair of these lace-up flats for fall. They also come in nude, leopard and other colors— so cute and surprisingly comfy!
High-contrast baby blankets like these by Modern Burlap (top and bottom) and Lou Lou & Company (center) are fun for boys or girls. The MB ones are muslin whereas the LL&C one is a soft cotton. I can’t wait to use them— they’re great for swaddling baby, covering car seats or strollers or to use as a nursing cover. In fact, we cover Harper with hers in the summer time so she has a light, breathable blanket for her crib.
Next up are these beautiful French tassel curtains. I originally wanted them for Harper’s room but her ceilings are so high. I got them anyway because I thought they would be perfect for our playroom. The black and white will pop against the mint green walls and they’re gender neutral which is great! I’m also in love with these pom pom ones from PBT, again from the Emily + Meritt collection (seriously can I just buy the entire collection?) and I may go with those for Harper’s room eventually.
I’ve mentioned these once already, but these rugby stripe storage bins are awesome. We’re using them in our IKEA Kallax unit in our playroom and they help keep things organized.
Lastly, though it’s not black and white, I couldn’t resist sharing this recent gold addition to our home. I love having touches of gold throughout our home— whether it’s in frames, art work or pieces of furniture.
I had been on the hunt for a piece that may work against a small wall we have in our living space. I thought a shelf would be a good fit— I could keep a couple of toy baskets on the bottom for the kids and use the rest to display some favorite items. Then I saw this gorgeous gold shelf while browsing PBT’s Emily + Meritt Collection and it was on sale— plus I got an extra discount using a coupon code—so I knew it had to be ours. It was also the perfect size for that wall— totally meant to be! (it does come with a wall-anchoring kit as well, a must if you have kiddos).
I hope you enjoyed these picks and some peeks into our new home! Happy Sunday!
Love all your picks and just cannot wait to see you with a boy! Those blankies are too cute!
Thank you! Boy clothes have come a long way, that’s for sure 🙂 I love how you dress your boys! I like really simple and neutral stuff for boys which I’ve been finding a lot of at baby gap, old navy and some IG and etsy shops! Let me know if you have any other fave shops I may not know about!
I love a black and white colour scheme for a home! Have you seen some of the black and white nurseries? So gorgeous.
I haven’t really looked at black and white nurseries but I am sure they’re beautiful and very chic! The new baby’s nursery will be pretty similar to Harper’s in the sense that it will be very light, airy and neutral. Then, when he’s older, I will add a little more color and fun like I’m doing in Harper’s room now. For some reason, I love having a really serene and calm-feeling nursery…but little kid’s rooms are all about fun! 🙂
I love that light fixture! Redoing our outdated light fixtures was one of the first things I tackled getting into our new house. It can be pricy, but makes a huge difference! Enjoy nesting!!!
I agree that it makes a big difference! We were able to take a couple of fixtures from our last home which was nice. I also had some areas “blank plated” because I wanted to live in our new space before making decisions about some of the lighting. I’m so glad I did that because there are three pendant lights over the kitchen island I will probably eventually purchase and I’m not 100 percent sure about the direction I want to go in with those right now! Better to wait and make a good decision!
I’ve had my eye on those shoes…hope they restock my size soon! Love your picks and enjoy reading your blog! 🙂
I am in love with the bookshelf and the light fixture. And definitely picking up some of those modern burlap blankets for little one on the way, loving neutrals for boys! I love reading your blog
Aw thank you so much 🙂 when are you due?!
I’m due in March! I’ve still got a little while but I can’t help myself from shopping for them already, baby clothes are too cute. Plus it’s my first 🙂
I especially love the lamp and shoes so much! Love reading your blog and your Instagram! My blog is https://makeupwithak.wordpress.com xoxx
Hello! Did you purchase the small or large size rugby bins to fit inside the Kallax unit? Thanks!!
If you love the Merritt collection at pottery barn, you will fall in love and seriously drool over the new RHteen line at restoration hardware. Gorgeous!
Cant wait to see how you finish the rooms! What pant color us your wall with the shelf?
Most of our house is painted “first star” by sherwin williams
What size are your rugby bins? Large or small ones?
I am not sure because I did not notice a sizing difference in the store. However, given that they fill the KALLAX cube space, I would say it’s a safe bet they’re the large ones.
