This past week was a rough one. If you follow me on IG, you may have read that Harper is having a difficult time transitioning to the two year old room at daycare (thank you to all of you who left such wonderful feedback, tips and commiseration!) They did a two-week transition where she would visit the new class daily and meet her new teachers, etc, but once it was time to be there full time, it was not good.
Harper never had a hard time transitioning to a new daycare when she was eight months old or from the infant to the toddler room…but the two year old room is a whole new story. She’s more aware now and can really express her emotions. It’s kind of heartbreaking because she used to walk into her class everyday and be happy and excited to see her teachers and friends. Now, she cried hysterically and clings to me like a monkey and yells “no mommy no” through her tears. She also says “no more new class anymore mommy” when we talk about it. I feel so bad, but I also know it’s completely normal for toddlers to have a tougher time transitioning as they get older.
The worst is when we come home and she says “mommy, you left me.” Like a dagger in my heart. I know she will adjust and love her new class in time, but it’s tough to hear that especially since I’ve been on such a working mom role lately and feeling so happy with the balance it provides for our family.
Thankfully her daycare does have cameras so I can login and watch her and she seems to be getting more comfortable with her new teachers and friends and participating in activities which is comforting to see.
At home— she has been wonderful. Some tantrums here and there, but overall very happy, talkative and funnier than ever. We had a wonderful weekend together!
The most fun part of our weekend was attending Georgia’s party out on a pony farm in Richmond. Chasity did a great job planning her unicorn party and Harper loved it so much she left kicking and screaming because she wanted to stay forever (picture a 20-week pregnant lady walking across a field in 90 degree weather carrying a diaper bag and squiggly 30 lb toddler…it was sight).
I asked Harper if she was going to ride the pony and she was scared and said “no, I want to pet him.” I didn’t push it and just let her have fun doing other activities at the party. Eventually she started making her way to the line for the pony and we waited patiently as a few of the other guests took their turns— I think it helped her want to take a ride herself. She was so proud and happy to be riding the pony! It was so sweet to walk alongside her and see her little smile light up!
Harper couldn’t get enough of the pony and kept saying “hi pony, hi hi” as she pet him. And don’t worry— the pony’s hair isn’t dyed— it’s a temporary product they apply on weekends for the parties- the have normal white hair during the week.
I can’t get over her face in these pics! This swing made her so happy 🙂
The kids “went fishing” too! The party was such a blast and Harper slept like a rock that night! Kevin wasn’t with us because he was seeing a few bands at Summerfest. I usually go, but they had to move it to a parking lot this year due to the recent flooding in Houston and I didn’t want to deal with a huge crowd + sweltering heat + limited access to bathrooms. Maybe next year, Summerfest.
Today I got to meet Amanda’s sweet new baby boy Deacon! We were showering her with love just a few weeks ago and now Deacon is here and absolutely adorable. Harper was a little jealous after seeing me hold him for awhile and pulled my finger saying “mommy come here come here.” October will be interesting.
Holding Deacon made me realize our own baby boy will arrive sooner than we know it…I’m excited and scared and thrilled all rolled into one.
Cami and Harper had fun as usual and Amanda’s husband Ben snapped these sweet photos of them as they played in Cami’s nursery.
Honorable mention this weekend— Harper is finally on board with taking some playful selfies. She used to just grab the phone and want to hold it, but she’s totally down with silly face selfies now. I may look like an absolute fool, but she sure has that face down!
I hope the transition is better this week. Everyday should be a little bit easier!
As Harper gets older I see more and more of you in her! She's such a hoot. I love her in those sunglasses!
Nothing cuter than a baby duckface selfie!
aww… hope the transition is easier this week! THAT PONY! Oh my goodness, Kaitlyn would go cuckoo for it!!! What an amazing party and I might have a 3rd birthday party idea now! Harper and Cami together look so sweet!
