Happy Thursday! Gap and Old Navy are having a big sale right now so I’m sharing exactly what I ordered for myself, Harper and baby boy on the way!
I’m all over loose-fitting summer dresses right now. I wanted some that I could wear as my belly grows and these three look like they’ll be airy and comfortable as we get into the hot (and incredibly humid) summer heat. As a side note, all three dresses come in tall!
I also ordered my tried and true pullover racerback bra and this unlined convertible bralette. I got into wearing these in my first pregnancy because it hurt my ribs too much to wear normal bras or underwire ones, even if I went up a band size. I still wear them all the time now and I absolutely love them and needed some new ones.
There was so much adorable toddler girl stuff at Old Navy it was hard to choose what to get! I also included a straw hat from H&M that I adore.
I loved zip-up sleepers when Harper was a baby (so much easier than the ones that have tons of tiny little snaps) and these were a steal! Plus I love the fun colors they come in. More fun boy colors please! (and yes, the one with clouds has snaps, but it was too cute to pass up!)
Happy shopping!
obsessed with that first striped dress!
Hi Veronika –
I don't know if you remember the factory fire a couple of years in Bangladesh I believe it killed over 1000 workers, and afterwards some companies such as The Gap wouldn't sign a safety act accord. Anyways it's a complicated issue that I can't explain but I was just wondering if you've ever thought about all your Gap purchases and what it means to be able to pay $5 for a baby outfit. I don't blame you for shopping at the Gap because I do occasioanlly, the deals are hard to pass up and the stuff is cute, but I myself have been wondering for my kids….how much clothes do they need? Made in the USA stuff is certainly more expensive, but I realized I can just limit my purchases, say 2 quality onesies or dresses for the price of getting 5 or 6 at Gap. It's hard because kids are messy little rascals and mine seems to go through 3 outfits a day sometimes, but I have to wash it all anyways whether I have 10 onsesies or just a few. Anyways just some food for thought, here's an interesting article https://jezebel.com/whats-the-solution-to-the-worlds-sweatshop-problem-511688272. Also John Olivier recently did an investigation on the same topic: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Fashion (HBO)
Hi Coco. This is a complicated issue for sure. I read the article linked in the Jezebel story and I agree with this comment:
"We really don’t think that not buying is the solution for us. We have 4 million workers in the garment industry in Bangladesh, 70 percent of whom are women. Most are very young and they have to have a means to have a livelihood. If consumers stop buying, that is like a boycott and a boycott doesn’t help us. Instead, we want people to write letters to Walmart, talk to their communities and friends about what is happening, raise their voice and protest at the stores with their physical presence. We want US consumers to say, “We’re watching you and we demand that you pay attention.”
I think you've definitely help do your part by being aware of this and bringing it to the attention of others. Better wages and working conditions are essential and that will only happen if there is pressure from the public about this issue— and we are all part of the problem as consmers, but we also have to keep in mind that our purchases are an important part of their economies. But that shouldn't come at such an unacceptable price (the loss of lives).
I really don't know what the solution is here and I welcome your thoughts. Have you changed your buying habits as a result of articles like the ones you linked?
Yes I have stopped buying as much clothes, or at least focusing on fewer better qualiy items. Factory conditions could be linked to the pace at which they must turn out thousands of cheap items of clothing such as those at Old Navy and the Gap. You can write to the Gap, as a frequent shopper there it would be responsable consumerism

A few other articles about how if they don't work fast…..you are pregnant now so maybe your heart can go out to these women

Where do you shop now? Do you buy US made items only? I always have compassion for others, pregnant or not. I think we all have causes we support and this is absolutely something to get more educated about. Thanks for your comment!
Cute outfits for summer! Hope you have a great weekend!
We are totally loving Old Navy right now! Kennedy is all of a sudden asking to wear dresses all the time (this is quite a change, because she used to kick and scream if I tried to dress her up). She is all about that dress life. So we went to ON and I bought like 6 of them! They are so precious.
I love that light green sleeper for baby boys! And dresses in tall sizes are so important. More stores need to participate!
I'm also loving the ON kids stuff right now. Just put in a big order for F and can't wait for it to arrive. Not so much their boys stuff but I'm heading to H&M today..
