I got off of work early Friday, so it was nice to squeeze in some extra family time. Right now there are a lot of tea parties going on in this house, so that’s where you’ll usually find us playing.
Harper has gone through a language explosion recently, so it has been even more fun to play because there’s so much back-and-forth. She talks constantly and even started to say some expressions like “I see you” and “I sit” (or run or march or walk), “bless you,” “thank you,” and “I love you” (and so many more)! It’s so exciting seeing her be so vocal. Her daycare teachers even told me she has started to talk more there and she tends to be more shy at daycare, so that’s a big deal.
Our daycare was closed for the last two weeks for the holidays (they follow HISD’s schedule), so this upcoming week will be all about getting back into our normal routine.
But don’t get too excited— with all of this new language also comes a lot of tantrums. They are brutal some days and everyone keeps telling me they continue to get even worse. Wheeee!
Harper has spent a lot of time with Kevin because he gets more time off during the holidays and she is all about him now. She even requested to hold his hand on our walk. Sweetest girl.
Off topic, but I posted on IG about booking a hair appointment and how it’s always the day you book a hair appointment that you have the best hair day. I swear it happens every.time. I have a Pinterest board of hair cuts and colors I love, you can check that out here if you’re looking for inspiration! Below are a few of my favorite long layer looks— obviously I’m a big fan of Olivia Palermo!
I styled my hair like this on second-day hair using a regular hot tools curling iron (this one or this one). Then, I just ran my fingers through the ends to break up the curls a bit.
On Sunday I shared this photo that I took after sleeping with my hair in a topknot and brushing out the curls and adding Frederick Fekkai glossing creme (buy here). You can check out a video I filmed several months ago on my YouTube channel of how I make my curls last and how I style slept-on hair, here. I post this disclaimer every time, but it really depends on your hair type whether or not this will work for you. I’ve had several readers send me feedback that it helped simplify their hair routines so that was great to hear!
Saturday night I cleaned our kitchen and relaxed. I have SO much cleaning and organizing to do in this house that I’m just taking it space-by-space because it’s overwhelming. I will also be selling more from my closet— including some items that were left over after three bags went to the Salvation Army. I think I’m going to sell them in IG, since I’ve seen a lot of other bloggers do that and it seems so much easier to list items at random than to have one big blog sale.
Our Sunday was laid-back and we enjoyed a play date with our friends and their daughter. It was too sweet when they sat at the little table together and shared Cheerios (or sometimes refused to share…ahem, Harper).
During nap time I headed to Marshall’s Home Goods because after Christmas my goal was to organize the living room/play area. I needed more baskets that would better suit our storage needs. And of course, I snapped a quick outfit photo:
When Harper woke up from her nap, we went on another walk in her little push car and it was sunny so she wore her sunglasses (buy them here)…which she then wanted on inside too. Then she asked me to help put her Santa hat on, and hilariousness ensued. She cracks us up.
I just found your blog and fell in love with your hair immediately. Have you ever posted a detailed video or post on how to do it? Also, I've got that same Tory Burch bag you're sporting. It's awesome eh?
Have you ever thought of doing a shorter hairstyle? Something like Olivia Palermo's shorter style, like this: https://media.onsugar.com/files/2011/02/07/0/258/2589280/1e5520177a4197b5_OP.jpg
I think that would be so adorable on you! Very chic and modern!
I have had hair that short and didn't like it (but I had hair that short when I didn't really know how to style it, but still). I just prefer longer hair and I'm happy with how I look so I don't want to change it and then regret it, which I know would happen if I went that short (when I moved to Houston my hair was a lot shorter and I spent three years growing it out because it grows really slowly). Having said that, I would consider cutting a couple of inches off to freshen it up.
Your hair routine does work. I used to only go a day or two between washes, but now 3rd and 4th day hair have become pretty routine for me.
I'm so glad it works for you 🙂 less washing and less time spent doing hair = more time for more important things 🙂
I've followed your blog for a while now but just now picked up that not only do our daughter's have the same name, so do our husabnd's. Any chance your real name is Sara? haha Kind of crazy… And as for the play area for a toddler, I converted Kevin's "man cave" into a playroom for Harper this Christmas thinking that it would be so nice to have a place where all of her toys could go. Yet, I still have two giant baskets full in our living room along with her toy car that gets drove all around the house. How does that happen?! Spoiled babies is all I can come up with 😛
Haha that is so funny! We have a lot in common 🙂 I am checking out your blog now!
