Today I’m sharing a super simple IKEA hack! I always wanted to get a play table and chairs for Harper and actually bought this LATT children’s table months ago but didn’t get around to painting it until now.
I had seen a ton of LATT hacks on Pinterest and I really wanted to create a play table that was bright and cheery.
I ended up using a beautiful bright pink (with a hint of purple) color by Benjamin Moore called “spring azalea” for the chairs. It’s so bold and bright and looks great in our space. For the table, I used Benjamin Moore’s “chantilly lace.”
I had seen a lot of cute table and chair sets at Land of Nod and Pottery Barn Kids, but the $19.99 price tag on IKEA’s set couldn’t be beat. Even with the cost of paint, this was still the less expensive route. I also love the size of this table and chair set (it’s on the smaller side) as well as how lightweight it is. It will get a lot of wear-and-tear and it’s nice to know I can touch up the paint.
I set up the table right next to Harper’s kitchen set in our living room, which should at this point just be called “the playroom.” It all looks so cute together and is so fun for Harper that I don’t even mind 🙂
After Harper went to sleep Saturday night, I set up her table. The next morning, she was so excited to see it that she wanted to eat her breakfast there. Harper’s daycare has all of the kids sitting at a cute little table when they eat, so she’s a pro at getting on and off of the chairs.
I ended up using two coats on everything and the coverage was beautiful! Here’s how it turned out:
Harper had a great time eating her scrambled eggs at her new table:
There were tea parties galore…
The felt pads are an essential part of this project if you have hardwood or tile floors. We got ours at Lowe’s and you can buy them here.

Toddlers can use these tables for so many things— arts and crafts, coloring, eating, tea parties, building blocks— the options are limitless! As you can see, Harper really loves her table and we do too— it doesn’t take up a lot of room yet it’s so incredibly fun and useful.
Sharing a cup of tea with her auntie Candice…
It's not a hack when you just paint the table and chairs. You can call it a hack if you changed the tabletop to a chalkboard, for example. I think using the term (hack) is misleading your readers because you clearly did not do an IKEA hack. I'm not being rude; just stating a fact.
Okay, thanks. If you look on Pinterest, plenty of other people paint the table and call it a hack. People spray paint their IKEA VITTSJÖ shelving units gold, and that is called a "hack." Or they paint a dresser and spray paint the knobs gold, and that is called a "hack." It's just a term used to describe any kind of changes to IKEA products. This is just a fun post about a simple project, it's not meant to offend or mislead anyone, obviously.
I love the way the table turned out! Very cute.
Do you mind sharing what nail polish you are wearing in the picture showing the felt pads? I love it!
It's called "double breasted jacket" by Essie 🙂
I think your hack turned out incredibly adorable!!!
Thanks Amanda! It was a fun and easy project 🙂
Very cute hack. I want this for my kids. 🙂
I made over my Harper's Latt table too for Christmas. I spray painted Harper's and it was so quick and easy. I ended up loving it so much better than anything I could have bought 😛

Great hack! Did you use anything to finish it or was it fine without? Super cute colors!!
I'd love to hear an update on how the paint holds up on the top of the table and seats of the chairs. We have the same table and I didn't think the paint would "stick" well to that material.
It will definitely show some wear over time— I already noticed one tiny spot on the chair seat where the paint came off a bit (smaller than a pencil eraser). They are so quicky and easy to paint that I can always just add a coat of paint or simply fix a spot that has been roughed up. Honestly, it's such an inexpensive set and it's designed for play, so I'm truly not concerned with it looking perfect or holding up well. I just want her to have fun and if it need touch ups in the future I'm okay with that 🙂
Do you mind telling me where you bought Harper's kitchen set?
My mom bought it for her for Christmas- it's from Pottery Barn Kids- https://tinyurl.com/naex3os
