Our Weekend…

Where to start with this weekend? Well, I missed Halloween, which was a huge disappointment. On Thursday afternoon I started to feel a bit wonky and by the time I got home I was feeling worse and I had that same feeling I had a couple of years ago…it was going to be a long night. 


This virus has visited me before and it is the absolute worst. I’m not sure if it was food poisoning (I had ordered a lettuce wrap sandwich for lunch and the symptoms started towards the end of my workday) or norovirus or some other gastrointestinal virus, but it was so awful and it also came with a fever, massive headache and plenty of other symptoms I’ll spare you of. I stayed home from work Friday because I felt like I had been hit by a bus and was still running a fever. I basically slept all day (and night). I stayed away from Kevin and Harper in our room until my symptoms subsided. By Saturday morning I was on the up-and up. Still very low energy, but fever-free and able to eat and drink a little more (and by eat, I mean croissants and by drink, I mean water, pedialyte and Gatorade).

So, most of the end of my week and weekend was dominated by recovering from this beast of a virus. Kevin was able to attend Harper’s daycare Halloween party and they did a little “trick-or-treating” there, so I was glad they got to do that. Next year, she will understand it more anyway, so I guess there’s some consolation in that.

This morning was the first day I’ve felt like things were back to normal completely. I woke up feeling rested, not sore and actually had an appetite. I finally styled my hair and did my makeup and wore real clothes. And this little cutie was so happy mama was able to play and have fun again.

I was thrilled to be feeling okay because we had tickets to the Texans/Eagles game. It was my first-ever football game and I had really been looking forward to it.


My mother in law’s cousin Phyllis was in town and being from Philadelphia, she’s a huge Eagles fan so it was the perfect game for us to attend. Here she is with Harp, visiting earlier in the week and also from today after the game!

Auntie Candice came over and watched Harper while we were all at the game. They had a lot of fun playing, going on a walk (where she promptly fell asleep) and eating lunch together.
I wore my new scarf that I got from BrinaBox (via jane.com). It’s the one that was crazy-popular from Zara last year that I missed out on. I love blanket scarves. They’re perfect for someone who is always freezing, like I am (hello space-heater at my desk!) The weather in Houston was perfect today though, seriously. More days like this, mother nature!

Though the Texans lost, I really enjoyed the experience of being at the game. I liked seeing the enthusiasm from all of the fans. We were in the nosebleed section, but it was a better view than I expected. We had a fun time and I’d love to go to another game sometime.

I was playing around with it a bit, and with its bold, bright print, it would make such a beautiful cover-up for the beach. I saw one styled like a swimwear cover-up at Everything But Water but never tried it myself until now and it’s perfect! This is definitely coming with me on vacation—it would also be lovely as a wrap if it gets a little chillier at nighttime.

    Awww I'm so glad you're feeling better, Veronika! 🙂 I would never wish any sickness and fever on anyone. Fever is so debilitating and it's especially dreadful with a baby. And Harper is just the absolute sweetest! She has such a kind countenance….if that makes sense?? Hah!
