Harper’s 15 month update is way late…but I love documenting her progress each month and sharing all of the new things she’s up to.
The days of Harper crying when I leave her class are over. Now, she happily runs inside and is all “see ya, mom.”She just loves her little class, her teachers and her friends. She’s learning so much every day and I’m always surprised by new things she’s doing. The other day I was singing “twinkle twinkle little star” to her like I often do, and suddenly she put her arms up in the air and started making little “twinkling” movements with her hands as I sang. Sure enough, the theme of the week in their curriculum (we get a curriculum emailed to us each week) was shapes, and they used that song when they were learning about stars. It was just so sweet and unexpected when she did it. Love those moments. The next day she used her arms to make a rolling motion for “wheels on the bus.” Too. much. cute.
She’s up to so much these days that I’ve started to keep a list on my iPhone so I can remember everything for these monthly posts.
Something I’ve struggled a lot with this month with feeling overwhelmed that some nights that I don’t feel I get enough time with Harper. Traffic has been terrible and it’s definitely gotten me down more than a few times. I’ve started having my husband pick up Harper from daycare most days because it helps to shorten my commute a bit when I don’t have to stop. I really love picking her up and seeing her notice me when I walk into her class, but I think Kevin getting her brings us all a little more sanity.
I can barely get photos of this little lady anymore. Our upcoming family photos are sure to be a disaster with the way this girl won’t stop for a moment! I’ve all but given up and I’m sharing some iPhone photos in thist post because they capture some sweet moments.
Height + Weight:
Harper had her 15 month appointment two weeks ago! She weighs 25 lbs which puts her in the 92nd percentile for weight. She’s in the 53rd percentile for height (31.5 inches) and the 61st percentile for head circumference (18.1 inches). She is still wearing size 4 diapers.
Can point/touch every area of her face and body when we ask “where is your head? where are your eyes? where is your belly button? touch your feet! etc)
Kisses pages of a book when she likes what is on the page
Can correctly identify/point to items on a page 90% of the time when asked (where is the pig? where is the ball? where is the duck?)
Love to share sips of my water from the big Starbucks cup
Imitates everything, gives high fives
Still loves books and being read to, loves pointing at the “wild things” in “where the wild things are”—she just wants to go to those pages. My little weirdo.
“Dances” with her doll (makes her doll dance by holding her arms and moving her around), still loves tea parties and giving all of her stuffed animals zips of tea
Loves dance parties— I play music and pick her up and we dance like fools in the living room
Can sign “more,” “milk,” “eat,” and “all done.” Please note these are all food related. Go-figure
Tried peanut butter and shrimp for the first time this month
Learned to blow kisses and use her finger to make a funny sound with her lips (my mom taught her on FaceTime)
Loves FaceTiming with grandma—huge grin as soon as my mom pops up on the screen and she’s totally engaged with her, it’s so sweet!
When feeding herself with a spoon (working on it), throws a FIT if you try to help. She wants to do it by herself, folks. She actually hysterically cried as though I was hurting her when I tried to help. Oh boy!
Throws arms up for “hooray!” and “up above the world so high, like a diamond in the sky”
Does the actions for “itsy bitsy spider,” “wheels on the bus,” “if you’re happy and you know it” and “twinkle, twinkle.” She will start doing the actions when she wants me to sing the song too!
Can say mama, dada, woof woof, quack quack, moooo, something that sounds like apple, up, NO, uh-oh! more…and a few other things I can’t understand. She also said bubble and purple recently. She says “wawa” for water, too.
Nods her head yes and shakes it no. She loves shaking her head yes lately. “Do you love mama?” (shakes head) ha.
Still HATES having her diaper changed most of the time. I try to tell her how it’s better than sitting in your own poop, but I don’t know that she’s fully on board. My mom keeps telling me to buy a potty to “let her practice.” In Slovakia, where my mom grew up (and where I was born), they potty tain babies very young so I guess it’s a cultural thing.
Harper is still absolutely frantic about food. She stands in front of the fridge and screams/cries regularly, even if she’s just eaten. Doesn’t want anyone else to eat if she’s not eating. Tries to eat your food when she’s done hers. Bottom line: girl likes to eat. Any other mamas with babies who are frantic about food? She has been this way since she was an infant when she was bottle fed her breastmilk. The moment she saw the bottle she would flip out until it was in her mouth and sometimes when she finished it she would scream, even though I knew she was satisfied (if I tried to feed her more, she would spit it all up).
Thanks for reading!
I love your Harper updates and they always make me wish that I was better at documenting. Harper is so adorable and I love watching her grow on your blog (been following your blog a few months now). My daughter, Kennedy, is 18 months and attends a similar type of day care and it is amazing how much they learn at such a young age. I view it as a school vs. a day care as their focus is very high on early childhood development and education. I loved it with my son (he is now 7) and again going through it with Kennedy. Kennedy is also crazy about her food and is in the mid 90th percentiles in her categories. I just love the extra baby chunk and worry less when she isn't feeling well since she has some "reserves" ! My son was also in the high 90s for all categories but worked his way down to 15-20 % accross the categories after he reached about age 4 so I don't think the curve necessaily predicts the future. You are doing a great job juggling everything and I can relate – I just had to re-hire my house cleaner (let her go to cut back) so that I can have more time with the kids, hubby, (and perhaps some "me" time) on the weekends. I work 45 plus hours per week or more and it can be very challenging at times with a toddler and grade schooler. It is hard being pulled in so many directions. Thanks for your blog – it has been so helpful to me as a working mom! 🙂
Hi Kristen! Thank you for taking the time to leave me such a thoughtful comment 🙂 I am glad you can relate! I always worry that because she wants more food that she is still hungry, but our pediatrician assured us that she is getting plenty since she finishes 99% of her meals and that this is an age where they test boundaries so that makes sense 🙂 From one working mom to another, thanks for being here, commenting and reading my blog. I love "getting to know" other mamas through this little place of mine online!
PS- I feel the same way about our daycare—they actually have a [private school as well for the older kids and the focus is so much on learning, I just love it so much. Makes me feel good to know she's in a palce she loves being.
My daughter can EAT. She starts panting and clapping when she sees food. She's 14 months, and has always been high in weight and height percentiles. They know what they need to grow and be active enough, my doctor always says she's happy to see the babies growing rather than losing any sort of weight or not gaining enough. Also I ate a TON as a kid – we did a health project in high school where we tracked our calories, just as an informational thing to make sure we knew what we were eating. I could eat as much as the (very large) football player next to me, and I was a scrawny stick all throughout high school. I was just so active, and so hyper, that it all evened out.
It's funny you mention this because I didn't eat well as an infant/toddler, but as a kid I ate like a horse! I still eat quite a bit as an adult (every 3 hours) so I think it's just always been in me to need those calories consistently. I am glad you also have a baby who loves to eat! 🙂 it's fun seeing how much they enjoy it….not so fun when they're screaming with impatience as you prepare the food, haha!
She is a doll, love that red hair!!
thank you! your little Waverly is SO precious! her hair is getitng so blonde! I bet from being outside in the summer 🙂 she's so sweet! I read your most recent post about her having tantrums and I feel you…it tests my patience too but I know they will pass (and actually, will probably get a lot worse before they get better!)
She looks like she's at a really fun age. I can't believe how fast time flies… It seems like just yesterday that you were posting infant photos of her 🙂
I know! I love this age so much but I do sometimes get teary-eyed when I look at old pictures and videos and realize how it has all gone by in a flash!
We had so much fun! Thanks for humoring us during our constant state of renovations!!
My daughter was in the high 90 percentiles most of her childhood. She ate a lot and had quite a big appetite. I fed her on demand as was recommended. She was never overweight until her mid to late teens. I rally regretted not watching her weight when she was younger and wondered if I had helped contribute to her obesity. I felt terrible. Until I met a women who was grown and like my daughter. She told me if I had limited her food I would have made it worse. My daughter is now 28, thin, beautiful and accomplished. You're doing great.
You are sad! Thinness does not equate accomplishment or beauty. It's sad that you think it does.
Hi there- I have no idea what you are talking about as I did not say anything of the sort. I love my daugther and think she is perfect. I brought up her love for food because she is absolutely frantic about it and always has been and this is a monthly update, so I am sharing how she stands at the fridge and says and signs "more" because it's something she is doing this month. I was hoping other moms could relate and I see in the comments that many do. My daughter is happy and healthy and that is what matters most in life. I am very happy she has such a love for food and is a good eater because I know this is something parents struggle with, when their toddlers don't eat.
I just realized your comment was not directed at me and was directed at another poster, but I wanted to clarify my position.
Yes, it was directed toward the other lady. Sorry, for the confusion. I just felt that she had a problem with her daughter when she was "obese" and now is okay with her, because in her eyes she is "thin, beautiful and accomplished." I think she is worried that Harper may be obese, because she likes to eat. I can think of more horrible things a child can become as they get older.
I think a lot of parents feel guilty when they are scolded by their pediatrician for their child's weight…maybe that's why she felt responsible? I don't really know.
Oh she is so adorable!! So many things she and Ellie have in common and many things they differ. It's so fun how development differs from one child to the next!
I agree! I always read diffrent updates and find it fun to see what other babies around the same age are up to. Every baby is so different!
Love the update! Marli is about 2-3 months older than her, but I love reading about this anyways 🙂 She is developing so well and love that she makes the hand motions to her fav songs. Marli LOVEEEES saying bubble and purple too! I am completely convinced this is her favorite color now and she loves anything that includes bubbles. The struggle for a good picture won't get any better for a while…my advice is to snap a TON at once or put it on selfie mode so she can see herself. That seems to help Marli stay still for a few seconds 🙂

That is a great idea about the photos Linh! sometimes when I try to take a selfie she gets really serious looking at herself and sometimes she smiles big—it's a hit or miss, ha 🙂 thanks for reading!
Ah! Love your tip on the iPhone for milestones. I've been really bad at remembering it all when new things happen daily! I've gotta try that for next month. Love Harper updates! I think I need to work on more musical actions with K! Sounds like they hall with development a LOT at the daycare! I *wish* Kaitlyn was more interested in food. Harper sounds like a little foodie and that's a great thing!

Yes the iphone notes section is KEY! I just love keeping track because between work and home and blogging, my memory can slip a little (okay, a lot). The musical actions are so fun—and sweet. I have to get it on video one day!
Love it, it's so much fun how quickly they learn at this stage! And I'm dying she's almost the same exact stats as Ashlynn! She's going to be a tall one like her mama! Ashlynn was 32"in april and 25lbs in June, such a shortcake.
Really? It's so funny because when I see pics of Ashlynn she doesn't look short to me! I see Harper with other kiddos and she is a pretty average height. She tends to have growth spurts where suddenly she will shoot up and then it will slow down again. The pedi said she would be 5'8 but I thought it was odd since I heard predictions aren't accurate until they're two. Ha 🙂 who knows!
Aubrey just had her 19 month checkup and she is exactly the same height and weight as Harper! She was so tall but now she's slowing down a bit. That's so cute that Harper kisses the pages in the book- Aubrey does the same thing and I wondered if other kids did that as well. She also kisses her stuffed animals and toys that she loves and then hugs them and goes "awwww." Does Harper kiss her toys too? Oh how I'd love to see these two together- they'd be so sweet!
she does kiss her stuffed animals it's so sweet 🙂 she also likes to hug them
She is such a doll! My daughter is 20 months, and she loves looking at Harper's pictures. We have that little critters shirt from Carter's and think it's just the cutest thing!
