I had an event at work today so I wanted to look professional and not too trendy. I chose my beloved J. Crew No. 2 pencil skirt and paired it with an item in my closet that has been ignored for the past year: my black blazer.
I don’t know why I don’t wear it more often because it really is a lovely piece. After wearing it today, I’m convinced more blazers are in my future.
I also added a new top I got at Zara that reminds me of a beautiful watercolor painting. It has 3/4 sleeves which you can’t see in these photos—but here is the top in a fitting room photo I took this weekend:
…and here it is with today’s outfit:
Skirt- J.Crew; Top- Zara; Blazer- Express; Shoes- Kate Spade

Adorable! I love blazers on you! Maybe some bright ones for spring???

Blazer are awesome and I swear by my trusty black blazer! In my (humble) opinion, the black blazer + Black skirt looks a little too conservative….like a dress suit. I'd love to see the same outfit, except with the black skirt swapped for jeans, or the blazer swapped for a cardi.
Love the zara top!!
@anon – thanks for your feedback 🙂 I was actually trying to be more conservative today because I had an important work event 🙂
Nice! You look fun and professional at the same time. I think the right fitting blazer can be very flattering, I am looking forward to getting some bright colored blazers for spring!

@natalia and mimi—yes! i def. plan to get some pretty bright ones 🙂
That top is so pretty!
Gap has some super cute brightly colored blazers out right now. I've got my eye on this pink one!

So So So perfect for a work event! This Zara top is gorgeous in both pattern and color.
And I gotta say…your new chandelier is so lovely as a background feature 🙂

The Zara top is super cute! Love that it adds interest to an otherwise more professional look! 🙂
I'm so into skinny belts nowadays- and I love the way you styled yours! I would love for you to check out my makeup blog if you get a chance, I'm a mommy with a makeup problem…https://www.jennysuemakeup.com
Love blazers! The top is adorable:)
Super pretty veronika! I wear my blazers all the time. They are so easy to just throw on over everything, and they instantly make any outfit look polished and chic. That top is super pretty too. I wish I had more luck at Zara!
This is such a great work look! I love pencil skirts for work though I still don't own a J. Crew No. 2!

LOVE LOVE, as always. You look so tall!!

Love the blush pink black combo on you!!
I love your work style and your outfit posts! I can't get enough of blazers either. Right now I have a black and a navy one and hoping to expand it soon. I love that blazers can be worn dressy or casual 🙂
Those aren't 3/4 sleeves. 1/2 sleeves maybe, but not 3/4.
@anon – "It has 3/4 sleeves which you can't see in these photos" #readingFAIL
@2ndAnon – No such reading fail. I read where she said the top had 3/4 sleeves, which you couldn't see in the photos of it with the (cute) blazer. And I understood that the fitting room photo was given as a better view of the top and its "3/4" sleeves. However, it's still true that that top does not have 3/4 sleeves.
I'm not trying to dispute that the outfit is well styled and appropriate for work. Only the definition of 3/4 sleeves.
Love that top from Zara!!!!!

Love the first outfit in the dressing room, actually! Are the pants just leggings or skinny jeans? Have been looking for the perfect pair of black "jeggings" with little luck. 🙁
– Erin Leigh
erin—they are the black GAP "always skinny" jeans
Wow, I love blazers and this is an outfit that looks extremely well with the blazer over it! You should definitely get more blazers in your wardrobe 🙂
