gluten-free waffles, Nutella & fresh strawberries:
A dress I tried on (and didn’t buy) at Banana Republic on Sunday. It’s a size 0 (?????) which is insane. Dear Banana Republic, please start sizing your clothes properly—it’s really awful that someone my height and weight could fit into a zero. Though, I am kind of regretting not getting it since I would have gotten 65% off!

This awesome salad recipe I plan to try from SHAPE magazine
(w/ Audrina Patridge on the cover) Doesn’t it look delish!? (click to enlarge)
New Shorts from Lulu’s (size medium fits me PERFECT!)
(Pretty Girl Rock Lace Black Shorts—buy them here)
They are actually dark black but I played around with Instagram.
They are SO flattering on. Can’t wait to post an outfit with them!
Before leaving for today’s workout—typical outfit:
Saucony shoes; Underarmor shorts; Lululemon Cool Racerback Tank & Old Navy sports bra!
I am convinced iPhone photos take off at least 5 lbs because I always look a
little smaller in iPhone pics than when I use my DSLR.
Veronika.
love nutella on waffles (eggos), have that every sat before power yoga 🙂 and BR sizing is awful, I actually gave up on them bc i was always being sized out, annoying!
@ehayes—isn't it awful? it just astounds me that their sizing is so inconsistent and so…wrong.
Why do you eat gluten free waffles? Just curious! Cute workout clothes! 🙂 You're probably a zero at Banana bc you're so thin!
@anon— I just bought the waffles at whole foods on a whim! I am not gluten intolerant but I do deal with IBS and it can be beneficial to limit gluten.
I am definitely not a zero though! I am usually a size 4 or so.
I am 8 months pregnant and now completely convinced I need waffles and nutella for breakfast!
loveeeee that blue dress! you're definately inspiring me to tone up!
U are really very very thin! So you can be assured you are definitely a 0. 🙂
I have to go back to my more disciplined eating habit asap as I recently gained 2kgs!!!
@ anon—don't worry, i can't fit into a zero in any other stores! just banana republic ! my shorts are still a size medium and fit perfect—that's why I was so mad at banana republic—because their sizes are so ridiculous!
V-why didn't you get that dress!!! It was freaking fantastic on you! Oh man, I love that color on you as well. I am drooling at the nutella waffles and that salad does look amazing. I love all things pesto and so funny-my kids do too!
andi—I think i was so upset at the sizing that I didn't buy it on principle…believe me,I am kicking myself! though the zero fit, I would have prefered a 2 since the zero was like i couldn't gain a pound and still fit into it!
I was just eyeballing that salad tonight! It looks so yummy!
I don't get why you didn't buy that dress! Beautifull and on sales!
Cute dress! Go back and get it! 🙂 btw I like your 5 things post. You should make it a feature
You need to go back and buy that dress. That color is amazing and it looks gorgeous on you!
I agree, that blue dress looks wonderful on you! It really is such a fun, vibrant color. I don't see any sizing issues by the pic, but I'm sure the feel was off like you said.
That dress is so adorable! I love the color, and it was on sale? I SAY GO BACK AND BUY 🙂 You're so tiny, it makes me want to get up and work out.. almost! 😉
You look AMAZING in that blue dress, so versatile! I have just one suggestion, don't stress too much over the sizes in the labels of the clothes! More importantly is how the outfit makes you feel once you have it on. The "standard" sizing varies so much from each manufacturer, as you already know! So, just go ahead and buy a size 0, then just cut the size off the tag if it still bothers you! :)Suzy
Seriously! Go back and buy that dress!
That is such a unique color and it looks amazing on you.
The waffles and strawberries look delicious! Love your blog, hope you can check out mine to see if you like it : )

love the dress! you look amazing!!!
These exact shorts are at TJ Maxx right now in the black and cream for $16.99. I bought the black from lulu's and they are the same brand – I was kicking myself for not scoring that deal before ordering from lulu's!
That dress looks fantastic on you!
I hate when stores are not consistent on their sizing. Makes ordering online extremely hard (reason why I hardly ever do it).
ok so that breakfast looks delish and girl you should have totally bought that dress. you look insane! it fits you perfectly and that color on you is fab! (I know you were mad at the sizing but sheesh it just looks so good on you!)
Also, I totally want your new lulu's shorts!
The fact that you didn't buy a dress that looks completely fabulous on you because of the number on the sizing tag is so silly. It just shows how over-reactionary you are. Chill.Out.
@anon—i would have bought it but I didn't want to risk it not fitting if I gained a few pounds. It fit me, but it just fit me, with no room to spare. I would have gotten it if a size 2 was avaialble 🙂
Go back and buy the dress, it looks great on you!
I agree, you look like a size zero to me! You look super skinny in these pics. I would go back and get the dress, you looked fab in it!!! Beautiful color too.
@anons—thanks! it is a cute dress for sure! I am def no size 0 though! I still wear a 4 in most stores 🙂
Love the dress! Great colour on you as well! That's kind of how I feel about Gap jeans, you always have to go down a couple sizes to find the right fit!
agree, that dress is perfect on you. the color is gorgeous! definitely go back and get it. You look tiny!!
This isn't so much a question as much as a little piece of advice based on personal experience. I am about the same size as you 5'9.5," 132lbs – we even have the same size implants :). My husband and I have recently decided to start a family, and I went off BC back in February; I have not gotten a period since. I did the progesterone challenge test and did not get my period. It was finally determined that my estrogen was low and that I needed hormone replacement therapy. That still has not worked and I have not gotten my period. I should also mention that I have been pregnant before, so the problem is likely hormonal. My doctors never expressed any concern about my weight prior to me having these problems, but now everything is going back to how much I exercise (I am a runner)and how thin I am. I do not think I am too thin, I am the same size I have always been. I think you look amazing, and not too thin at all. I am just telling you this because had I known all the problems that I was going to face when it came to my fertility, I would have gone off BC long ago and tried to start getting these problems worked out sooner, so that when my husband and I were ready to start trying we wouldn't be having to deal with these issues. I think my case is fairly rare according to my fertility doc, but this has been a nightmare and if it can help anyone else at least something positive could come out of it.
@anon—wow! thank you so much for sharing this. I am still on the pill and I am considering going off of it to get my body back to a normal cycle. Did you ever have any problems before with your period (before you were on the pill?) thanks for brining this up! We have similar body type/stats so this is great info to draw to my attention—you just never know, right? thanks agian!
You are welcome! No, I never had problems with it prior to going on the pill, or during times when I would not be on the pill (usually b/c I was single and there was no need). I had also not been someone who exercised consistently or ate healthy, until about 1.5-2 years ago (I was on the pill during that time, so I didn't know that anything was off). I'm sure you will be fine – as my doctor said, "people who are 5'9" and 130lbs get pregnant all the time," unfortunately, I'm not one of those people.
Oh, and you are totally right about BR sizing – no way am I a 0, but when it comes to BR dresses, I am almost always a 0.
Hi Veronika,
I just wanted to say that you have a fantastic blog. Do not let the bad criticism get to you – You look amazing. As long as you are happy and feel healthy, it's the most important thing. Please do more workout/diet blog post.
love that dress! In your gym pic you kind of look like Victoria Beckham, maybe it's the sunnies…..or that your not really smiling, haha I just realized that (posh never smiles and you always do). you inspire me to get fit though for sure, ignore the haters!
I think you just gave me inspiration to get my butt to the gym. You are looking AMAZING (not that you didn't before but wow!).
You look soooo beautiful! I loved the dress on you but I understand why you didn't buy it on principle, I would have probably done the same hahaha! That breakfast looks delicious by the way! Drool!! xxx
Love the dress, and salad with grilled chicken and avocado sounds amazing right now (post cardio!). One comment… get some protein in your breakfast, girl! With all those training sessions you need it to get your metabolism going. The strawberries look divine. I'm actually munching on cherries right now 🙂
@anon-I know ! I totally need to add protein…I am thinking of adding turkey sausage…(like on the side) any other ideas?
Hi Veronika!
Ok first off that dress looked GORGEOUS on you!!! LOVE that shade of blue. If it is still there you should so get it. 🙂
I also have a random question for you about diet and exercising. I have been reading your blog for a while and you seem to have a great balance of being healthy without turning militant about it. Any advice for someone starting out? I want to lose a few pounds and get healthier, but as soon as I tell myself I am on a diet my body freaks out and craves salty and fried food. Any advice you could share would be great.
-J
@J- thanks for your comment 🙂 here are my best tips for your question!
1. don't go on a diet. there is no need to ever be on a diet—I recommend bethenny frankel's book "naturally thin" it teaches you how to change the way you think about food.
2. remember you can eat whatever you want, just not tons of it and not all at once—i learned that from her book and it has really stuck with me (sorry for promoting the book so much but it's a must-read!)
3. I have to admit that I am kind of "militant" about my workouts in the sense that I am very adamant about going 5 days a week. It gives me energy, makes me feel good and helps combat my anxiety. I think you have to make yourself go until you love it. Now, it doesn't feel forced. It's part of my routine and I enjoy going and look forward to going. Sure, some days I'm tired—but I always know the workout will give me that great endorphin rush. I say GO and workout until you love it and crave it.
4. learn portion control—stop eating massive portions of food until you feel stuffed—I used to do this—stop before it starts to hurt your stomach and really think about if you are hungry or not before you eat more.
5. write down what you eat—this helped me to be accountable and really understand what I was putting into my body. You mentioned cravings—write down what time they happen too, along with your food diary. It might help you understand what some of your food triggers are.
good luck and i hope this helps!
Mmm turkey sausage 🙂 I always turn to lean meats like turkey or chicken sausage (check the package still to make sure you're getting good quality), yogurts (cascade mountain and oikos are my faves… no corn syrup and very few ingredients!), and egg (white) veggie omelettes. I also discovered zico coconut water a while ago, which is amazing. It's delish and naturally restores lost fluids and electrolytes after a workout.
@anon- I just bought a bottle of the zico water but am hesistant to try it—how does it taste?
You are absolutely thin and a size zero! You look beautiful but because you are tall, please don't lose too much weight, you'll start to look lanky!
@anon– no worries! I am not losing weight and have not been losing. I lost a few lbs at first but i've been maintaining since then and focusing on putting on more muscle.
Ok, the first sip I hated it. Then I was craving it like crazy. It sort of has a silky texture with the taste of an unripe coconut. It's not very sweet like I expected it to be. I hope you like it! I've read so many amazing benefits, whether they're true it not… (this is Stephie by the way… after a year I finally got a phone that would let me leave comments) lol.
Veronika I really don't think it's the iphone. It's really obvious that you've been working out a lot, your arms and legs look amazing! Now don't take that the wrong way, you always look great. But I can def. see the results, you look slender but also strong. So much better than skinny!
Also, the sizing at Banana Republic and the other Gap brands has just gotten ridiculous. Now don't get me wrong, a little "vanity" sizing makes the customer feel good and helps generate business. But now it's just absurd and I think ultimately sends the wrong message. There is no good reason I should be 2 sizes smaller at all their stores and I know better. I worry that others will now cling to their brands to stay in denial about their true size. It's just silly.
The dress is absolutely gorgeous! That breakie looks yummy too. My kids love dipping strawberries in nutella. It's usually a desert for them 🙂
You need to go back and get that dress! The color and fit looks GORGEOUS on you!
If you don't like ZICO coconut water, try ONE coconut water. ONE tates much, much better to me.
Not really sure why you are exercising that much .You are rail thin and need to gain some weight I think
I have to agree with the last comment-you are such a pretty girl but you seeem to have lost all your curves!I think it's great that working out and health are important to you, just make sure you dont take it too far.
I agree with being frustrated at Banana. I am a 0 or 00 and sometimes their clothes are too big! I hate it because I love a lot of the clothes there. I love everything lace at the moment so I can't wait to see an OOTD post with those shorts! Too cute!
I love those lace shorts!! what size did you get, and do u think that they run small? thanks!
Best,
Taylor
they are a size medium and i think they run TTS
You mentioned the IBS.. I deal with that as well, does reducing glutton really help?
anon—do you mean gluten?
If I am 5'4 and 120 lbs, do you think I could get the medium in those shorts? there is only a medium left and I really, really want them! But I wonder if small would be better for my height?
I would say you need a small but you can have them taken in! They are really cute in person.
