My H and I went to the mall today. Among other things, I had some returns to make:
1. My white American Eagle shorts. I decided I wanted shorts that were a bit looser in the thigh area and those were fitted. They didn’t look bad, I just found myself never feeling eager to wear them, so back they went!
2. My Tiffany bead bracelet—I exchanged it for a new one because the one I got turned a weird orange/gold shade after I wore it once for only like 5 hours. Not okay. So they gave me a new one and it’s nice and shiny again. The salesperson told me it could be because of lotions, etc…but I don’t use lotion. I also bought Tiffany’s silver polish/cleaner.
3. My NARS “Albatross” highlighter. Okay, so this one’s weird. I got it a few weeks ago and have been using it and love it…and then one day I open the compact and the entire thing just breaks into pieces. I hadn’t dropped it or anything, it just broke into about 5 pieces. So I exchanged it for a new one.
Okay, now to the actual purchases. Well my friends, today was a good day, I must say. One of my dreams came true. Several months ago (over 6 months at least) I saw this gorgeous BCBG dress at Saks Fifth Avenue but it was $388…plus tax, over $400. I couldn’t justify it.
So today, as we were leaving the mall (we always park at Saks), I see THE dress on the “extra 40% off rack.” It was marked down to $233.99, plus an additional 40% off. Of course, nothing in life is perfect and the only sizes they had were a 2 and an 8.
The size 2 fit perfectly. It was like a GLOVE on my body. BUT…it was too short. Like so short I could never justify it because it could not be worn to any work-related events. The dress is white, so I can’t wear it to weddings, so it had to be long enough to work for a variety of occasions. The waist on the 8 was huge on me, but the length was PERFECT (it’s always so hard for me to find party/formal dresses that are an appropriate length.)
So, I bought the 8 and I’m having it altered to fit in the waist area. It will have to be taken in several inches, but the length is just perfect on my 5’10 frame.
Here it is, in all its loveliness:
Edited to add this photo (I realized I had taken a picture of myself in the size 2 dress—so this is how it should fit once altered, but it will be longer!)
The second thing I got today are these ADORABLE shorts from Lululemon. Since I work out so much, I’m building my collection so I can have more options and don’t have to wash the same pair all the time. These have a cute scalloping detail at the pockets and are a different material than most Lululemon shorts…the girls there called them “board shorts.” They were marked at $58 but I think the price was wrong because I got them for $47. They are called the “Paradise Short Short,” but something I actually love about them is that they are a little LONGER than most lulu shorts:
Did YOU score any good deals this weekend? I noticed that a ton of stores were doing 40% off—Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, LOFT, etc…
I am looking forward to the 4th of July sales. We are going to Austin again but we will likely stop at the outlets on the way home because I always like to check out Kate Spade since they get new stock in pretty often and they usually do 40% off during holiday sales.
xoxo,
Veronika.
PS- Have you ever bought something that had to be altered? The only garment I’ve ever had altered is my wedding gown…so I don’t know what to expect.
Oh, I love that dress! I actually alter items all the time. Seriously. Seems like such a waste of money to most, but I don't care. If there's an item that I absolutely love and plan to wear over and over, then I'll buy whatever size I can get (within reason) and have it altered. I'm usually a 2, so I would buy a 4 or 6 and alter.
Super cute items! So funny because I just bought a pair of white American eagle Jean shorts today. Lol. Have fun at the concert!! That's so weird about the Tiffany bracelet. I have never heard of that happening!!!! Xoxo
I love that you are going to the BSB alone- such confidence! I've been meaning to ask you- do you take any special precautions while laundering your lululemon items? I recently bought the wunder under crops and want to keep them in the best shape possible. Have fun tonight!
@ashley—I wash everything in warm or cold water and I hang dry it.
What a great but on the dress, it's absolutly beautiful and will look stunning on you!

I am pretty lucky as I can buy anything and if it needs altering my mom does it for me since she was a seamstress. I get nothing but perfection every time. I am not sure what I am going to do when my mom won't be able to do this for me anymore. 🙁
Is it just me or does your white dress have a stain or discoloration on the bottom part in the middle section? I see it in every photo and noticed it right away. I hope not, maybe my eyes are just playing tricks on me??!!
@courtney—I didn't notice anything when I had tried it on. Maybe it's just the lighting or something?
The dress is gorgeous! And what color are you wearing on your nails? I love it!
@amy—i just got it 🙂 it's essie's "turquoise and cacos"
Enjoy the concert – I'll bet it's a blast : )
I cashed in on the Banana Republic sales of the weekend: a tunic and seamless liners for flats for me and cologne for my Dad's birthday!
Love your Zara top too!
I really like that dress. Much cuter on than on the hanger.
Cute finds! I have the same issue with lots of my NARS stuff just breaking. I'm doing some shopping from the couch…just ordered 8 VS tankinis to see which one will fit best post baby.
Love the dress! But honestly the size 2 doesn't look too short, but I'm sure it may be a little uncomfortable if you were to bend over or when you go to sit down.
I'm looking forward to the holiday sales too next weekend. I always score great stuff at the Kate Spade outlets since they seem to always have those 40% off sales over holiday weekends. <3
I have to say, the white dress, on the hanger, didn't do a thing for me, but no you…LOOKS FAB!! I have things altered allll the time, so I'm sure, as long as you tell the exactly what you need, it'll come out perfect!
The black top is super cute. What a great score on your dream dress. It looks pretty.
Love that dress on you! Beautiful! About your belly button scars, I also had mine pierced on the top and bottom and wouldn't ya know it, that's the only place on my body that I got stretch marks when I was pregnant! How will you have them fixed? I didn't know there was anything you could do for them?!
Altering is great! I have a pair of jeans that have always been too long and I just had them hemmed and I got a dress shortened that was way too long. Only bad part, I had her shorten it a bit too short. Oh well, I wasn't wearing it anyway!
Seriously LOVE that white dress on you!
That dress is beautiful, also the new top. I have an abnormal love for lace!
This weekend I bought some summer clothes, taking advantage of the summer sales.
That dress is SOO you! Love it!
Cute dress! I love those shorts but I don't see them on the site. Bummer!
Love that white dress so gorgeous! As a fellow tall girl (5'10") I am shocked that you've never had anything other than your wedding dress altered. You might get addicted! I'm pretty lanky (long arms and legs) and skinny so I always have to have jacket sleeves lengthened. My seamstress told me that only 10% of her business is making things longer, the rest is making them shorter (i was a little shocked at the time since everything is always too short for me)
V, that white dress is just perfect on you! You look amazing.
The BCBG dress is amazing!!! Love it!!! 4 of my friends & I went to the NKOTB/BSB concert Friday night. Wasn't it amazing??? I was always a huge NKOTB fan but BSB were great too!
That dress is darling! I am 5'8 and also have a really hard time finding dresses that aren't too short. It's annoying!
that dress looks incredibly flattering on you Veronika! i really love it. you can tell it's a high quality dress with the level of detail that it has on it.
so pretty! i peeped into the zara sale this weekend too. i found lots of things i liked, but nothing i LOVED enough that i had to buy it!
Hi V! Looks like you grabbed some great deals this weekend. I am particularly enamored with that fab pink bikini – i love it!!
I get almost all of my clothes altered. I'm only about 5 feet tall and have an odd (in my opinion) shaped body so finding a really great tailor had been a practical necessity for me.
Have a great week!! ♥
That dress is amazing!! Alterations can be really great, or awful, I've had both. So make sure you go with someone reputable or with the company from which you bought the garment, that way its usually guaranteed.
Poor V! Of course you got some faulty items! I have a Tiffany ring that is tarnished, but I've had since I was 18. At least you got a new bracelet, I've heard they are great with customer service.
Love that pretty dress from Saks. It looks so great on you!
IMO – that dress is very young; it makes you look like you are 14.
@anon—awesome! I love looking younger 😉
I really want that swimming suit!! Love – Also I have to admit, I didn't like that dress on the hanger but on it's amazing…I'm obsessed with lace too!
Veronika – I love that top from Zara – where does it fall? It looks short on the hanger, so I was wondering if it is something you'd have to wear a shirt under or if it is just how it looks in the photo?
Anon- it is a crop too so it hits me above the hips. I have to wear a tank with it
The white dress is too cute! You have a good eye. I would have passed by it on the rack but it looks so cute on you!
Omgosh, the BCBG dress is gorgeous on you! At first glance, I wasn't too excited about the dress on the hanger, but when I scrolled down and saw u in it…it's stunning! Great finds, btw!:) -A

It depends on how much you need altered, just in the waist, possibly no big deal, but if you need it in the shoulders and other areas too you risk it getting messed up and not to mention cost. I try to only have things altered at the place I bought it so they eat it if it gets ruined, but sale merchandise is not usually included in that deal. Otherwise go to someone who is reputable like the girl mentioned above, but proceed with caution. I've had many things ruined by plunging in with someone who I was referred to, but that I didn't try out first.
@samantha–thanks for your comment. The dress is really only too big in the waist. The rest of the dress could go un-altered.
