I did a little shopping today, but sadly, I haven’t found the perfect spring shoes yet. I am SO over shoe shopping right now that I think I need to move to online shoe shopping because I’m so frustrated going to stores and trying on shoe after shoe and not finding anything I love (plus, it’s a miracle sometimes if they even have the shoe I want in the size I want.)
Today wasn’t a complete fail though, and it was all because of one joyous skirt.
A few weeks ago, I saw an incredible HOT PINK skirt at Zara. I knew I had to have it. The problem? It was too short—definitely could NOT wear it to work. I said a little prayer that day at Zara, hoping the skirt would one day come in a pencil skirt style. For weeks, I went back and nothing and the shorter pink skirt had long sold-out. The lovely Emily from Cupcakes & Cashmere even had THE pink skirt:
I picked it up…please be my size, please be my size, I thought. I turned around the tag and it was a Medium! I couldn’t believe it. It was meant to be. I grabbed it and looked around me as if someone would come up behind me and snatch it away. Yes, I’m a little crazy. I couldn’t actually believe that I had hoped the skirt would come out as a pencil skirt, and then it did, and I happened to be in the store when they had ONE left in MY size (okay, this reminds me of the time they had one pair of Cynthia Vincent for Target wedges in my size left in the entire store. Goodness gracious I’m a lucky gal!)
I tried it on, it fit, and to the register I went. There was just no way I could pass up it’s awesome brightness. For $79.90, it felt like a steal.
That’s all I got at the mall. When I stopped in at Target to pick up a few essentials I also got this pretty nightie. It’s by that Gilligan & O’Malley line:
Lastly, I stopped by Academy Sports today to pick up some shorts. I own some really cute Lululemon shorts, but they are too short for working out (I don’t want to flash someone, if you know what I mean.)
Many people recommend the Nike Tempo Shorts, so I tried a few pairs on. I wasn’t super-impressed with the fit (they just weren’t that flattering, especially in the butt area where they just kind of bunched and sagged) but I was going to get a pair anyway because I needed longer shorts. My husband actually said “hey, why don’t you try on a pair from the Under Armor brand?” I’m so glad I did, because the Under Armors ended up being much more flattering of a fit and I just liked them better overall. They retail for $29.99 and I got a Medium.
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend so far!
xoxo,
Veronika.
I dig that skirt 🙂
That skirt is adorable. That color is GORGEOUS!! Have a good weekend!
You've been hanging out in H&F too much… tempo shorts, foam roller… oh my! Thata girl!
@carolyn—My trainer introduced me to foam rollers 🙂 but yeah, the temp shorts are all H&F!
I love that ink skirt! I can't wait to see what you pair it with!
Shoot. *pink, obviously.
I understand the shoe shopping frustration. From a fellow size 10 gal to another-online shoe shopping is your friend! Zappos does free returns and exchanges! (I'm actually waiting for a pair to arrive this week!)
I hate my Tempo shorts. They make me look like I'm wearing a diaper. The only time I wear them is in the winter pulled over running tights so people can't see my butt jiggle (not like I do a bunch of running or anything…only when tricked).
I DID get a workout today chasing other people's kids around and re-cleaning my house after they left, though.
That pink skirt is to die for!
Nice! I can't wait to see you rock this in your outfit posts!
I would die for that pink skirt! Still on search for a perfect summer skirt..
xx Olga
That skirt is beautiful!
I LOVE that pink skirt!! Can't wait to see what you pair with it!
Congrats on sticking to your workout goals ! So inspiring !
And I love that pink skirt, it's perfect for Spring 🙂
Bisous !
Lucky finds! One can never have too much hot pink.
Just FYI….I just learned this myself at a recfent RRCA coaching class. The exercise physiologist leading the class stressed over and over again not to foam roll, deep massage, or aggressively stretch after hard workouts or races. What you’re feeling is not muscle tightness, it’s muscle damage. Why would you want to break down damaged muscled even further? Makes sense right? The foam roller and massage should be saved for a later time in the recovery proces if you have scar tissue, etc.
Do not foam roll your IT band either! It’s a weak core, glutes and inner quads that cause the pain. You don’t want to break down or over stretch the IT band. It’s a tendon, not a muscle. Once it’s broken down and over stretched you have a new set of problems.
Just thought I’d pass along that tidbit. She also said you can make a good roller by filling a 2L bottle 3/4 full with water. I’m feeling extra duped on my $40 foam roller now, lol
@runblondie—wow thanks for that info. When are you supposed to foam roll then? Like what would be a good time? right after a workout? a few days after? what if you work out almost everyday?
also—what is the IT band?
Super CUTE skirt!!! 🙂
Love the skirt!
Meduim?
You look like a small or an extra small!
@ anon—yep! I buy medium in almost everything because I'm so tall (5'10) and have wider hips so I need a larger size to accommodate them 🙂 I can wear smalls in some things and usually wear a size 4 or 6 in bottoms. It all depends on the brand!
I'm loving that night gown!! Very cute!!!
Love the skirt!
Hey I jennifer hudson in a skirt exactly like this online the other day search for her and say aol because she was doing a recording for their website its an amazing pink skirt!
Veronika – I don't know anything about the foam rolling but your IT (or iliotibial) band is a fibrous tendon that runs from the outside of your hip to the outside of your knee on each leg. It only attaches at the hip and knee. It is actually unattached to the rest of the leg.
I love that color! It's so fun and bright! I have to have something in that gorgeous magenta hue =) Can't wait to see how you style it V.
I swear by UA running shorts. They are the only brand I own and run in! Try there victory tanks, carpi tights and catalyst tops. You will not be disappointed!
love the pink skirt! i have one and it's perfect for spring/summer, a great addition to your wardrobe!
foam rollers are the best when you're sore
