You know I’m a baby powder
devotee when it comes to my dry shampoo of choice, but when I saw online that Suave came out with a new dry shampoo
, I had to try it, even though I already owned the Tresseme Fresh Start dry shampoo
(more on that later.)
I picked mine up at Target for under $3 and tried it out Sunday morning on my 4th day hair. Let me tell you something ladies, THIS dry shampoo doesn’t even compare to the Tresemme one. First of all, the smell is incredible and refreshing. Like sweet, fresh lemons, but not that chemical cleaning product lemon scent, like the lemon Windex.
I just applied it to my roots and brushed it out and it was lovely. The smell is so incredible I just want to spray it all over my entire head, but that would be crazy, so I just spray it on my roots (though, I suppose if you’re going for a really textured look, you could also use it all over…)
Now, back to the Tresemme. I did say at one point that I liked it, but I never loved it. The smell isn’t good and it doesn’t make hair feel refreshed and matte like baby powder or the Suave dry shampoo does. It kind of made my hair feel gummy….like a gummy texture, so I just continued to use baby powder until I found this lovely Suave product.
I wish they could invent baby powder that smelled like lemons. That would be amazing.
I just wanted to share this product rave for anyone looking for an inexpensive and awesome-smelling dry shampoo that actually makes hair feel clean and fresh. And smells like lemons. Sweet, sweet lemons. Yum.
xoxo,
Veronika.
Ok I MUST try this product! I have to say that I am now able to go TWO whole days without washing my hair and the use of baby powder is the reason. Thanks for the advice!!! xo
I'll be trying this soon!!
I'm definitely going to try it!
I dislike the texture of the Tresemme Spray too. I prefer regular powder formulas over spray formulas for my dry shampoo, but the Suave is so cheap I might just have to pick it up and try it out!
mrs. v—for under $3 you can't go wrong 🙂
Thanks for the heads up on this! I have been wanting to get dry shampoo without spending a ton of money and I love Suave products. Can't wait to go to Target tomorrow.
Thanks for the suggestion! I, too, really dislike the smell of the Tresemme stuff, and was hoping there was a cheap alternative!
Oh, this is fantastic to hear! I have the Tresemme dry shampoo and I SWEAR by that stuff, but you're totally right about the smell. I'm totally going to try this Suave product when my other stuff runs out! I can't wait. Your review for it sounds lovely!
I'm SO glad you posted this! I was so excited when they came out with the Tresemme dry shampoo, but I was totally disappointed after using it. I will try this one!
I am a die hard dry shampoo fan and LOVE Klorane's dry shampoo. I like the squeeze bottle kind as opposed to the aerosol version. Its the very best out there and one bottle lasts me quite a long time, even though I use it at least twice a week. Seriously, love love love!
Cool, thanks for sharing. I have the Treseme one (and some others) and don't love it. Will have to try this one next!
I might have to try this! I bought the Tresemme one and HATED it. It just made my hair feel really gross and almost worse. Yuck.
I am on a quest for the best cheap dry shampoo. I've tried the Tresemme, Pssst! (at Walgreens), and Batiste (at Sally's). So far, Pssst! wins for me (a close second behind Batiste because that one runs out so fast)! I am super intrigued about this Suave dry shampoo — under $3?!?! Going to pick it up ASAP! –Meg
I've been meaning to pick this up. I'm so happy to hear it works well because I've been using pricier dry shampoos and I go through them pretty fast!
i'll be trying this soon!! i just ran out again, and haven't replaced it!!
I was surprised when you mentioned you like the Tresemme, I hated it… it made my hair feel even dirtier. But I will definitely be on the lookout for this.
My favorite dry shampoo is the Oscar Blandi pronto (which, IMO, is basically like lemony scented baby powder!), but it's $$, so I stick with regular old Target brand baby powder (but I refill the pronto squeeze bottle w/ it, because it has a great spout that works really well for getting in the roots)
Thanks for the review!
Did you say 4 day old hair?? That is AMAZING to me. I have to wash mine DAILY, or if I don't it is a ponytail on the second day. 🙁
I feel like I have tried every dry shampoo on the market. I have super-fine hair, so dry shampoo is a staple for me, and I go through a lot of it. My favorite high-end dry shampoo is Klorane, but I can't justify the price because I go through it soooo quickly. As far as the drugstore brands go, I was super excited when Treseme came out with a dry shampoo, but I absolutely hated it. After I used it, my hair felt even more dirty and unmanageable. My favorite drugstore brand dry shampoo has been Batiste… that was until I tried Suave. I LOVE the new Suave dry shampoo. It does it's job, it smells wonderful, AND it's the least expensive brand on the market. Now I don't feel so bad when I go through a bottle every few weeks!!

I'm so buying this today. I bought the Tresemme a while back but it made my hair feel sticky, and left a weird gray/green color in my roots that wouldn't brush out.
Thanks so much for the advice. I have been wanting to try dry shampoo and this is just the price point I'll try it for 🙂
I'm going to have to try this because I was not really a fan of the Tresemme dry shampoo. I thought of it as a "quick fix" like it worked great and smelled great at first but a few hours later when I got back home I was dying to take a shower and wash my hair.
ok here's my problem… i have great hair in the sense that it takes a few days to get oily. BUT… despite that, i always feel gross the second day. i work an office job, so i'm not out sweating or anything, but there's just something about freshly washed hair that makes everything better. that's the part i can't get past. plus if i shower but don't wash my hair, it gets frizzy and is hard to style. what do you do?
They HAVE Baby Powder that smells like lemons! You should try Oscar Blani's Pronto Dry Powder Shampoo. I have hair similar to yours (fine, but a lot of it), and I really LOVE it!
Thanks for the review! I am definitely going to try this! I've been using cornstarch which works well, but I found myself really wishing that it had a scent to it to make my hair smell clean and fresh. BTW, thanks to your hair washing post, I am now officially an every other day washer instead of every day and loving it!
So funny–I just picked up the Suave kind and loved it too! I was strictly a powder-only dry shampoo girl, and since I can't stand the smell of baby powder, I only used Oscar Blandi. The smell is supposed to be lemon verbena, but it always smelled more like bathroom cleaner to me. Plus it's $19 a bottle!
I have the Tresseme kind too, and it's ok. The Suave really is the best, and I also got a bottle of Umberto Beverly Hills at Target. They are all so much cheaper than Oscar Blandi, and work great!
thank you for this review!!! i think i may have seen it in stores but overlooked it because it was Suave – i know… i shouldn't have judged it so harshly! i appreciate your thoughts on it and will most definitely pick it up next time i'm out!
I also picked this up at Target over the weekend and loved it. The smell is great, very "Spring-ey"
Hey thank you for the post! I saw and ad and wanted to try it out. I havent found anything I like much besides the Bed head spray , which is 20.00. I have bought 4 different brands so far and hated the tressume the most!
I've tried tresemme in the past and like you I can't stand the smell of it or the product it self sucks in my opinion!!! My i have to try this one!!! Thanks for sharing!!

So glad you posted this – I tried the Tresemme and hated it – smell, texture, everything. When I saw the commercials for the Suave one I was tempted to try it out, but was reluctant because of my bad experience with the other cheapie. Glad I can give it a try now!
Veronika, thanks for the review. You got me hooked on baby powder but I will def give Suave a try!
-Ava
@ ava—i like to use both— a bit of baby powder and a bit of the spray—the smell is so good that i like to use both now 🙂
The Oscar Blandi powder does smell like lemons! I love it. I haven't tried the Suave, so I can't compare the smells. I just prefer powder to a spray. It feels like it just makes my hair worse and greasier looking. The Oscar Blandi is my favorite, though if you are into the smell, I wouldn't say that it really lasts long or scents my entire hair. And the Suave is muuuch cheaper. I'm just sticking with OB or lavender scented baby powder.
Sooo good to know! I absolutely hated Tresemme and I have tried every kind out there. B&B is my favorite ever, but I can't justify the price for it only lasting a month or so…Batiste from Ulta or Sally's is my current cheap favorite (7.99) but $3? can't wait to try this!
I didn't like the Tresemme. It also left my hair feeling gummy…not a clean & fresh feeling.
Late to the game here, but I've been using baby powder for more than a decade (I don't even remember how I stumbled onto it, since dry shampoo wasn't exactly popular then), and a few years ago I started using the Cucumber Melon scent from Johnson & Johnson. Works just like regular baby powder, but it leaves my hair with a light fresh scent instead of the dreaded diaper smell. It's more difficult to find in stores, but you can still order it online.
