I have heard countless raves about Urban Decay Primer Potion (or UDPP) from YouTube beauty gurus and bloggers alike. No matter what anyone said about how great it was, I put it on my “products not for me” list and went on with my primer-less life.
I do wear eyeshadow daily, but I just lightly sweep MAC’s “blanc type” over my lid and that’s that. No blending, no multiple colors, no crease definition. I didn’t see myself as a candidate for eyeshadow primer.
Something that’s always bothered me is that usually by mid day and definitely towards the end of the day, my eyelids get greasy. Not like disgustingly greasy or anything, but enough to notice creases in my shadow and enough to rob my lids of their once matte look.
I thought oily lids were just something you had to deal with…what I didn’t know was that the UDPP eliminates them completely. Yes, I said eliminates them. Completely.
I just couldn’t believe it. I convinced myself it must have been a fluke. But then, I finished up the sample and had perfectly matte lids for days.
Thank you, Urban Decay, for making this amazing product— that actually does what it says it will.
You can buy Urban Decay Primer Potion
Thanks for reading!

This product is awesome. I have been using it for a few years now and love it!!
I just bought this yesterday & was totally blown away by it too! My eyeshadow has not budged all day & even stayed put through a tough workout. LOVE!!!
I'm not sure if you've seen this online (you probably have), but be warned–the packaging on the UDPP is HORRID. You can potentially waste a TON of product if you don't cut the original package open and depot.
I went to sephora with Angela and she told me that i just need to have it and omg i LOVE IT!!!!!
such an amazing product!

I love this product!!
@anon—i saw the videos online about how to save the product from the bottom by cutting it open. I am in awe that UD hasn't changed the packaging!
Isn't it the best? Idk how I lived without it!
Funny that you posted this… I have the Too Faced Shadow Insurance but have only used it when I use a cream based shadow. I started reading about it online yesterday and it said you could use cream or powder. So today I used it with a powder and it worked so well! After ten hours my shadow looked exactly like it did when I first applied it. No crease or grease. So if you ever want to try another kind out of curiosity, I recommend it. Ulta sells a travel size for $9 so you don't have to commit to the full size.
There is a Professional Size available with much better packaging. For a face primer, have you looked at Smashbox Photo Finish Targeted Pore & Line Primer? Grab a sample the next time you are at Sephora. I don't use it everyday but it's amazing stuff. It works 1000x better than regular primer. I use it when I need to look really nice and flawless for a long period of time (like a big meeting after work) and my face looks PERFECT all day. Regular primer can't even compare.
@OUKatie—thanks for the rec 🙂
I wish I could use this. I'm extremely allergic to some ingredient in the primer that makes my lids swell =(

Ditto on the cutting the package. I did that back in July when I thought I was out and I am still using what I got out of it! You can see my post here:

Love, love, love the primer potion! Been using it for years! Def. the best!!
I didn't believe the hype either, but it's definitely worth it! Thanks for the other comments on packaging – I tried to use a fine-tipped brush, but cutting the package makes a ton more sense : )
Thanks for the info…I'll have to try it out!

If you love the regular primer potion, try it in Sin. OMG what a gorgeous color. I love it sooo much!
It is my favorite… if I am out of it or cannot find it, I don't do eyeshadow that day. I can't live without it!
Great recommendation! Do you use it as a base "color" or just as a base? Definitely curious to learn more! 🙂
Thank you so much for posting this!! I LOVE your reviews because you are always honest and I have genuinely loved everything you are obsessed with! I recently bought Redken Guts mousse and I LOVE it! Keep up the amazing product reviews!
I love this product, as well! I also cut mine open and stored the remaining product in an airtight bottle.
I DO love UDPP, however MAC`s Painterly Paint Pot is even BETTER! ( crazy I know!)
Your eyeshadow pops because it creates a blank canvas to work off of. Prevents creasing and fading. Can`t live without it, seriously it`s that good. Primer Potion is my backup but not nearly as good in my opinion… 🙂
I just found this a while back myself and honestly don't know how I ever lived without it.
Thanks for the recommendation! I'll have to check it out!
I've been using this stuff for years, and I LOVE it. it's a must-have in my makeup bag at all times!
I love it because I no longer get the eyeshadow or eyeliner crease at the top of my eyelid in the middle of the day. it's a magic potion, for sure!
love primer/eye shadow base. i use trish mcevoy base essentials in demure. many a day, i pair the product with eyeliner for a simple look to wear to work. i have veiny eyelids and need the coverage. https://www.trishmcevoy.com/products/tabid/61/productid/29/catid/13/sename/eye-base-essentials/default.aspx
Yay! I'm so glad you found a primer that works for you and that you love. Primers are a great, necessary addition to a makeup routine. I say necessary because if I'm going to spend time doing my makeup (and sacrificing sleep) it had better last all day-15 hours plus! I too have oilier eyelids, and my eye shadow would crease on me if I didn't use a primer beforehand or M.A.C. Paints. Silicone based products are a must to prep and prime the eyes for shadows, they act as a barrier for sweat and oil. You will LOVE your primer in the summer months. Enjoy!
Like you, I had never bothered with primers before. But I got the free sample size with my UD Naked Palette so I decided to give it a try one day. I was absolutely blown away by how well it worked. Not only did it make my eyeshadow last and not crease, but it even made the color show up so much more than it ever did on just my bare skin.
Good to know! I'll have to try some next time I'm back home in Canada!!! The heat over here can get ridiculous and nothing stays!!! Maybe this would help? I sure hope so!
I LOOOOVE UDPP, too!! I've been using it for years! Just an FYI, if you buy the professional size tube at Sephora, you get 150% more for only $10 more!
I also recently got on the eye primer train after having read reviews about how much it helps your eye make-up stay! I considered the UDPP, but because of the packaging issues, I instead bought Benefit's "Stay Don't Stray". I will say it works really well – it's more of a pump-type tube that you squirt out just a bit at a time. However, if anyone is wondering, it's best to store this upside down AND squirt it out upside down – it will dispense only a tiny amount of product (all you need!) The prevents wasting the primer if you pump it right-side up.
Hopefully that helps your readers if they're shopping for an eye primer and/or considering Benefit!
