I enjoyed a lot of window shopping while we were abroad. For designer items especially, the prices were simply so much higher than what you’d pay for the same item in the US, so I decided to only buy things I haven’t seen in the US or can get cheaper in Europe.
Something I stocked up on was La Roche Posay. In Paris, it’s sold at every pharmacy and it’s significantly cheaper to buy it there. My favorite face wash, Effaclar
was just $10.80 euro for a 400ml bottle…when I pay $20 US for a 200 ml bottle online or at a local CVS—so I essentially got twice the product, for less than I pay for half the product. I also bought the “Targeted Breakout Corrector” cream that I love for about $7 euro. A bonus—it’s no longer available on the US website so it was especially awesome to score it at such a great price!
My second purchase was this Eiffel Tower that I literally bought off the street. I negotiated the price from $20 euro down to $12 euro and the guy threw in 2 free mini Eiffel Tower key chains. Nice. I thought the tower would double as cute decor and a nice memory/reminder of our trip. Here’s where it is in our home right now:
I snapped a few shots of SABRE stuff in the store too (Pretty!):
Next up, my London purchases! I bought (and ate) a ridiculous amount of Wine Gums (one of my fave candies that I can’t get in the US).
If you’ve never had these before—try them if you can! They are awesome, chewy goodness.
Finally, the most awesome purchase of all—the royal wedding mug. Oh yes ladies, I got myself a Will & Kate mug from a souvenirs shop and I’m proud of it! Seriously though, my coworker and I are always chatting about the royal wedding and how much the Today Show talks about it, so it’s a little inside joke we have and I thought it would be hilarious coming to work on Monday with this awesomeness. So here it is, on my desk! It has their names and wedding date on the back too.
Do you tend to shop a lot when you travel?
xoxo,
Veronika.
oh my gosh!!!! I want that Eiffel tower and pretty much everything else you bought!! So jealous 🙂
That bra is adorable and looks comfy to relax in! The Eiffel tower is cute, I feel like you have such great vision with the items you buy. Like you buy with the intended purpose in mind and to make it functional too 🙂 I hope you post your resolutions soon…I can't wait to read them!
Aweee! I love what you got 🙂 I am the same way when I travel out of the country. I cant say that I've ever come back with a significant number of goodies. However, send me somewhere like Vegas, Chicago, NYC, or LA … thats another story. I live in Virginia Beach so a Tory Burch store, Saks, Neimans, even the Lulu lemon store in DC gets me excited:)
Normally i hate candy, but when ever i go back home to Switzerland i always buy the " Gummy fries" to die for.
why does everything taste better on a train?
Check HEB and World Market for wine gums. I'm not sure if the brand I've bought is Maynards, but I've bought them at both places.
I've had the gummies from world market! I, however, thought they were terrible!! Lol
I am pretty sure I have seen those gummies at Krogers with all the British stuff on the "ethnic" isle (seriously, that's what they call it).
I love your descriptions. It's funny, I've just ran into some old friends, some living in London and some in Paris and they were just talking about how women in London are so much more stylish, they wear heels and dress up a lot more. I dream of going to London and getting properly fitted in a bra at Bravissimo or Rigby and Peller (the Royal Fitters) 🙂
Yep I can believe it! TopSHop is WAY to expensive. I remember being 15 and everythign in topshop was £5-£!0 but then it got popular and commercialised an the prices sky rocked (yet the quality got worse) very dissappointing aside from the accessorise!
Great (and wise) purchases! Love the lingerie.
i can't get over that mug! so cheesy but just the perfect London souvenir to remember your trip!
btw, I don't know if i've commented before but I've been a follower for about 6 months and totally love your blog!
kathy—thanks so much you are so sweet! I agree—the mug is totally cheesy, but awesome!
LOVE the Sabre tea cup!
There is a shop in Rice Village called British Isles that sells Maynard's wine gums and tons of other candies and teas and stuff!
kari–i had no idea !!! I <3 you for telling me that!
