So, here we go!
Fitness. This year, I don’t have to resolve to get fit—because I’ve already been working hard for a few months! See how I did that?! I was all sneaky and started to work out well before the new year so instead of starting up a fitness routine, I can now just say I want to maintain my level of fitness. I do have some goals fitness-wise, of course—to continue to tone my body and burn off fat—so more muscle, less body fat. I’ll continue to see my trainer and I’m also wanting to try a few news classes—including workouts that incorporate a ballet barre—because, you know, ballerinas are awesome. Speaking of ballerinas, we’re seeing Black Swan tomorrow, can’t wait!
Healthy Eating. I’d like to start preparing lunches in advance for my husband and I. My H is so sweet and cooks dinner nearly every night. I was horrified this week when I realized he eats turkey sandwiches and nutri-grain bars every day at work. Not okay. We need to diversify! I tend to bring groceries straight to work so I can have healthy snacks on hand all the time, but my lovely H needs it to be forced on him so I’m going to try to start consistently packing healthy lunches. It’s the least I can do since he’s so awesome. I’m also trying to eat more veggies this year—they’re healthy, low-calorie and packed with anti-oxidants. It’s a no brainer. Also, I’m eating Wine Gums right now…so……
Better Buying. I’d love to learn to shop smarter. Don’t get me wrong, I already think I shop pretty smart—I use coupons, shop during sales and overall try to save money every time I shop—but sometimes I look in my closet and find myself wondering why I bought something. I tend to buy only things I love…but sometimes I admit I buy on impulse if something’s a really great deal (thank goodness I recently started keeping receipts and tags on until I wore an item—I’ve been able to return a lot of stuff that went unworn.) I don’t know how I’ll achieve this—but it’s a goal, and I’m sticking to it! I’ll try to carefully examine each purchase and think about how it fits into my closet and my life. I’ll also try to save for things I really love instead of buying a bunch of stuff on every trip. We’ll see how it goes….
More projects. I would love to take on some home projects this year. There isn’t much we can do with our current home, but we’re hoping to buy a new home sometime in 2011 and I’d love to share everything with my readers. I sometimes wish I had started this blog when we first got our home so you all could see the transformation. Home decor is such a passion of mine and I’d love to take on more DIY-type projects.
Last year, my goal was to start a blog. This year, my goal is to continue blogging regularly and connecting with my readers. I just love and appreciate all of you so much and you all bring so much happiness and fun to this blog—and that means a lot to me. I hope to continue to post content that we can talk about, debate and laugh about.
Second guessing. I think it’s human nature to second-guess yourself. I’d love to be more confident in my decisions and in the workplace. I’m happy with my performance but I think I could learn to be a little more assertive.
Friendships. Girlfriends are so important in my life. There’s a special bond only women can share. It saddens me to write this, but I haven’t been in touch with my friends from home as much as I was in the past. We’re all busy and have our own lives and priorities (not to mention we live thousands of miles apart) but I’d like to try harder this year to get on the phone and just say hello and ask how my friends are doing. As we grow up, it gets more and more difficult to maintain friendships as the other things in our lives monopolize our time—but friendships make us whole. I want to continue to laugh, cry and have deep discussions with my friends, no matter how busy life gets.
More risks. I mean fashion and beauty wise. This is a tough one for me because you all know I love to stay in my comfort zone when it comes to how I look and dress. Now, don’t get too excited—I’m not going to chop my hair off and start dressing rocker-chic. I’d just like to try new looks and see where they take me. Even if I hate what I try, I should try it anyway. You can wash makeup off and change hair styles so I think it’s time to experiment—even if it’s just a random Saturday night at home and I’m feeling creative.
Read More. Simple as that. I’d love to read more. Fiction, non-fiction. I’d like to make time to read more books (instead of just magazines). As a kid and teen and I loved to read. You couldn’t pull me away from my books many days. I just read book after book (after book). I’d like to read at least one book every 2 months.
Marriage. This year, I’d love to focus on showing my H how much I love him. When we were dating, I used to do all kinds of little things like write notes in his lunch bag and make handmade cards for him. Life got busy and I felt like I didn’t have time to do those things anymore. This year my goal is to find new ways to show my H how much I love and appreciate him. He really does a lot for me, our family and our marriage and I’d like to put forth even more effort this year to show him that his hard work doesn’t go unappreciated or unnoticed.
What are your goals for 2011? Share one—or as many as you like—in the comments below.
xoxo,
Veronika.
PS— I had no pic with this entry, which made me sad, so here’s a cute shot I took of Lulu today. Hope it makes you smile!
Good list!! I definitely need to work on my patience level as well… I have zero. I thrive on multitasking, getting things when I want them, etc and hate to wait. It's a bit out of control…
@chasing davies—that's me to a "t" multitasking is my drug.
Wonderful, realistic goals 😉 Mine are extremely similar Veronika and I already blogged about it so I won't bore anyone anymore. But I have really good vibes about this year and I just hope we all accomplish what we are meant to!

Omg, everything you described about patience is TOTALLY ME, no joke. Down to the magazine flipping while an internet page loads (except I use this time to touch up my nails).
I tell my husband that I blame the fact that I'm an only child 🙂 Not really sure how the two are linked but makes to me!
You should try using Skype to stay in touch with friends/family. It's a really fantastic service, it's free, and super easy to use. I use it several times a week to video chat with my mom and several friends in the US and abroad.
I could have written the patience part myself! You sound exactly like me.
Dang girl!!! you have many goals but all are great!!! I def want to read more! Like a book! Not just all my fashion mags!!

Love your goals – I blogged about my New Years resolutions today – and many covered the same topics (fitness, healthy eating, focus on family) – but I realise I left out friendships (I limited my self to 10 resolutions LOL!) – I need to focus on calling my friends instead of just relying on facebook.
I'd love to see your home projects – you have the best design/decor taste EVER – I love the purple and grey and flowers I've seen in previous posts.
Love your goals 🙂 You did such a great job setting up goals that will change your everyday way of living. Like you, I need to work on patience, mostly in my relationship (I tend to expect my bf to read my mind so I need to communicate better) so I wrote myself a mantra and I read it every morning and before bed, and think of that anytime I can identify those moments where I just get frustrated… so far it's going really well. I also added to my goals to call someone on the phone each week to chat and catch up, wanting to feel more connected!!
I have 20 browsers going as well. I'm really trying to change that. Sounds like you're on the way w/your goals.
Happy New Year! 🙂
Great goals, they seem very attainable.
I'm not sure about Houston, but after you mentioned Wine Gums this week I noticed we have them in our Publix supermarkets here in Atlanta. Almost $6 a bag, but sounds like they're worth trying!
I have many of these on my list too, mainly read more and definitely be more patient. Oh,and drink more water and less wine 😉
I'm looking forward to your posts about fitness and meals. I to am trying to pack nice meals for my boyfriends lunch. He works hard and deserves to eat well!
Great resolutions. I also have decided to pay more attention to my marriage and to try to do more stuff with my husband. We have two little ones, so finding "us" time is very challenging. I hope to change that this year 🙂
great goals!! i have the same issue with patience (seems like a lot of us do). i like to say i'm "results oriented." haha. but in all honestly, i plan to work on that as well. happy new year!!

Great goals!! Good luck with the ballet barre! 😉 I teach an adult beginning ballet and advanced ballet classes each week. If you lived in the area, I'd tell you to come see me! hehe
When I sat down yesterday do a post about my goals it dawned on my that #1 HAS to be to keep my resolutions. How often do we set these amazing goals for ourselves and then let them slowly slip away? It's so easy to fall back into our old ways. So heres to keeping resolutions throughout the entire 2011:)
better buying is a great one veronika. i'm almost embarrassed about clothing purchases i made in the past, when i wouldn't question each thing i bought – (do i already have something similar to this? do i LOVE it or just like it?) and i want to resolve to do that too. i need to fill up my wardrobe with more staples, and less filler pieces.
Well said! I can apply almost every single one of your goals to my own life. It's great that you can notice areas that could use improvement without being too harsh on yourself. ^_^
kinsey—you said it exactly right—it's almost like now I'd rather spend more on something I love then spend $20 on a bunch of tops I'll wear once.
We are so similar!!! I pretty much have the same goals too, especially patience (I HATE red lights and long lines and slow people, etc.). I was a ballet dancer from age 3 to 18 and I miss it so much! I love the idea of incorporating a barre into your workout! I miss how toned I was when I danced. I loved Black Swan too – although it seemed to surprise many of the people in the theater, as they didn't know it was kind of dark/sinister.
Your husband sounds like such a sweetie – I'm jealous that he cooks almost every night!! It's sweet of you to incorporate him into your resolutions too, sounds like he deserves it!
And I'm excited to see your fashion risks, as I tend to gravitate toward black too…it seems like you were steering away from black earlier last year (or whenever I started to read your blog), but lately I've seen more black! 🙂 Which I get, but it's fun to see color too.
I like these resolutions. I need to learn patience as well and I like how you want to show your hubby more affection.
