I’m contemplating going for a more ombre look at my next appointment. My stylist added a few blonder pieces in the front underneath part of my hair at my last appointment to “test the waters” and so far I’ve enjoyed the subtle change. My new camera makes my hair look a bit lighter than it is, but you get the general idea. The issue with me is that my natural brown color is mousy—so I do like to have the highlights right at the top to sort of disguise that and blend it out. I could have my stylist dye my actual roots a little bit of a warmer shade of brown…but I don’t know if I want to do that. We shall see.
Here are some of my favorite ombre looks. Is is me—or does this trend really look best on brunettes? I like it on blonde girls too, but for some reason the look is even more gorgeous on brunette hair, IMO.
All images are from Google, JustJared and Hills Freak.
Rachel Bilson—she has been rocking this look for a couple of years now—I would definitely say she was one of the earliest adopters of this trend.
Lauren Conrad—loving her shorter hair here too!
Jessica Biel—I must admit I was taken aback when I saw these photos—she just looks so stunning and I think her hair is one of the best ombre looks in the bunch.
What do you think of this hair trend? Do you think it will continue to be a trend or will it be old news by 2011? Which celebrity do YOU think has the best ombre hair?
Do you think I should try to go a little more ombre? Let me know in the comments below 🙂

Veronika
I didn't realize that this many celebrities had been rocking the ombre look! I think it looks amazing on Rachel Bilson, and on the VS model.
I think you should go for it Veronika – I definitely think you can pull it off if you go lighter/blonder underneath.
Funnily enough I've been unintentionally pulling off this trend too since I haven't colored my hair in awhile and I've just been letting it grow out.
the look is definitely growing on me. I think it looks best on brunettes and dirty blondes.
I didn't realize this was a real trend. I thought it was just grown out color or highlights. With the exception of Rachel, none off this hair looks intentional.
But apparently I am in style because I have not colored my hair since September and it is definitely "ombre" looking. 🙂
I LOVE ombre hair… I've been debating trying it for a while now, but am afraid to do anything too drastic before the wedding!

I want to try ombre really badly but I am afraid it will look bad on my hair because of my skin tone and my almost black hair, I admire those who can pull it off!
I really love this trend! I think a lot of people can pull it off too – as long as your hair has some texture and isn't pin straight. I think it would look great on you!
Up until now I was not a fan of the ombre look. Or at least I didn't think I was a fan. But I am serious LOVING all these pics. Well except Hilary Duff (eww)…Rachel Bilson and Jessica Biel are my favorites! They look amazing.
I hope the trend sticks around as long as possible! I agree it looks great and, also, my hair seems to naturally do that – it looks like Rachel Bilson's or that Victoria Secret model's hair (which are the ones I like best incidentally). I always feel like I should dye it to even it out, so the longer the trend stays, the more I can keep putting THAT off. 😉
I love the ombre trend and have been wanting to try it myself for a while. My roots have grown out and it looks ombre-ish, but I want to try to make it slightly more dramatic too! I'm nervous about doing it but at the same time I feel like it will be a smooth transition because the hair at the roots, which frames the face, will be the same =)

love how everyone just let their roots grow out, I wish i could do it, too cute!

I think the ombre look looks alright if the two shades aren't drastically different. If there is a big contrast between the colors, it looks a bit cheap to me (like in the first picture of Lily Aldridge.)
I typically detest ombre hair, but I really like the photos you posted, except for the first one. LC and Hilary Duff are my faves!
@ Jessica
wat's wrong with Hilary Duff's hair?
I like it! 🙂
I love it!
I think you're right though, best for brunettes… but I kind of consider you a brunette, so… ?? Maybe you should give it a go!!
I do feel like this has been trending for a while now, so will it last much longer? HArd to say…
Oh yeah, and one last thing, I hear you on the mousy roots, I guess you'd have to just dye it altogether to richen up your natural brown?

I really like this style~~I didn't know it was called ombre, but I'm going to ask for that next time I go to the salon.
ADORE Rachel Bilson. She can do no wrong <3
I really love this trend, agree that it looks better on brunettes (I think it can sometimes make blondes look like they just have super greasy roots), and think this would look gorgeous on you. My fave is def Rachel Bilson! Her hair looks stunning in those pics. I also think Jessica Biel looks amazing with that coloring.
GO FOR IT!
You posted this right on time for me seeing as how I'm getting my hair colored this weekend. I'm naturaly a brunette so this trend will work for me. I just don't know if I 'm brave enough to get it done. Mmm, I'll get the opinion of my stylist and we shall see.
My fav are SJP (she pulls it off the best!) and Audrina.
hey veronika,
i think you should definitely do it (: i "ombre-d" my hair at home a couple of weeks ago. i am happy with the results but i like it better when its wavy/curly rather than when i wear it straight. since you always have such voluminous hair i think it will look amazing! i also love the way llymlrs.blogspot.com did hers. go for it!
xoxo
I just did it! (I posted about it on my blog). It's been hard to get used to my hair being so light. I am thinking of getting the lighter part going a lighter higher up than I have currently. I went to the same hair dresser that does Lily's and Hilary's hair.
I sort of like it but it's still growing on me. It's hard to get used my hair being so light!

I definitely like this look- it's growing onme. I think you should go for it!
I agree with a previous poster who said it's more like highlights grown out. I have definitely achieved this look before without trying. My hair is very much like Sarah Jessica Parker's and I believe that is how her hair was done fot the SATC episodes because she was growing out her natural color.
I like how it looks on all of those celebrities, but I'm afraid on me it would probably just look like I was in desperate need of highlights. Lol.
I like it on Jessica B the best. Its not for me.. although my hair is ombre as i desperately need to go to the hairdressers!
Oh Veronika! Do it! You could totally rock it and you would look so beautiful!
love it! i'd like to try it as well
wow I really like Rachel's!!! I think it's such a cool look. very different.
I love Lily and Jessicas hair. I love this look and have it myself. I did my ends in several steps to get achieve the ombre. Im a total hair snob so I took great care in planning and actually dying it- I used alot of Lily's photos as inspiration as well as Adriana Lima- she used to have it about 9 months ago (which is what made me want to do it) and I love how it looks. I think its going to be around through next season- I get alot of compliments on it and love that you dont have to maintain it much.
Great post!
I also love the ombre look but at least on the celebs, it actually requires quite a lot of maintenance (my good friend is a colorist). Something she does with me is when I grow out my highlights like I am now, she will put a brown glaze over all my hair which helps it to blend without altering the blond and makes the brown part look lessy mousy, a problem I also have! My hair is shorter than yours but you might want to try that if you decide to go for this look!
All of these looks are really good. I love Rachel and Jessica Biel's best–just beautiful!
I love the ombre look and think you should try it!!
I have an appointment to go "ombre" tomorrow. My hair is pretty dark now, & I'm thinking I'll go for the second Lilly/J Biel style ombre that's a little more subtle and beachy. Post pictures if you take the ombre jump!
