Today I went with tried and true black and white. I wore my new White House Black Market long cardigan which was only worn for a short while as it was once again blazingly hot outside.
It was a nice, simple combo…put together without a lot of effort. That’s what I love about dresses. There’s something wonderful about having to put on just one garment to feel polished (sorry these are so blurry…moreso than usual…I need a new camera!)
Dress- Zara
Cardigan- WHBM
Shoes- Michael Kors
Belt- J. Crew

…and a quick shot of my Monday-morning blowout. I’ve had a lot of requests to do an entire hair routine post so I’m going to do that soon. Thanks to those who requested it. It’s easier than it looks. Just a blow-dry with a round brush and setting it in different sized Velcro rollers.
Camera recommendation– I have a Canon XSI. I have a 50mm 1.8 lens, a Tamron 28-75, and the kit lens (which sucks…). I also have a speedlite.
I really love my equipment, and although not the highest end DSLR, it meets my needs perfectly.
Lindsay- what's the price on the one you have? Mine is so awful in manual mode (no flash) and I need something that will take crisp photos without using flash (flash totally destroys the way the clothes look for me)
My camera recommendation would be the Canon Rebel. DSLRs take a good bit of a practice though.
I have a Canon SX20 and it really nice. It's a step down from the DSLR and I love it.
Love, love, love that dress Veronika! So simple but adorable.

My DSLR is a Nikon D5000 and I love it… if you are looking to take pics like the ones in the mirror then a DLSR may be too heavy. I have a hard time holding it with one hand. I have a Sony cybershot point and shoot and I think the quality is really great.
thanks for all of the camera recs everyone 🙂 I would probably be using a tripod too which would be nice!
Nice outfit! And cute doggie ^^
Cute! I love your hair! Looking forward to hair tutorial 🙂
I use a Nikon D80, but I think that using a tripod and a remote to take pictures would make a big difference. I also have a Cannon PowerShot, and that works pretty well if I use a tripod.
Sorry no camera recs…but just wanted to say that despite all the beautiful colors out there, when its all said and done I just LOVE black/white together. Its probably my favorite combo and I wear it all the time. Love your outfit today and the pink purse is just perfect as a pop of color.
I had been coveting your belt so much and I was so excited to have found recently at my local JCrew. It's so versatile.
rosa- it really goes with absolutely anything! 🙂 so glad you got it!
Very Chanel inspired indeed! You know I love 😉
Super cute outfit! Love your blog. I have a Canon Eos Rebel Xsi it is a DSLR and I love it. One comment…not meant to be mean at all. Think you are gorgeous, but it looks like you may be putting bronzer on the tip of your nose. In the pics it looks a bit strange. I was always told never to do that. Anyway, maybe it is just the pictures. Love your blog and a big fan of you;) !
anon- I have to adjust the brightness and contrast in some of my photos in order to make them brighter and easier to see (because i don't have natural light to use) so it causes my bronzer to look darker than it is. I promise it doesn't look harsh in real life!
Got ya;) Just thought I would comment bc I would want someone to tell me if I could improve my makeup in a way!
I love today's outfit! So chic and simple.. I bet it was effortless 🙂
I need to go to Zara to check out their clothes – they look so cute! Sadly, I've only been there once, and that was over 7 years ago!
BTW, I think you look very gorgeous when you smile!
dress & belt are great together. And the cardigan is a perfect touch. Looks great!
And I look forward to the blowout tutorial! I'm bipolar with mine..sometimes great, sometimes miz! I just wish I had the $$ to get blowouts at the salon a couple times a week. 🙂
anon- i appreciate it 🙂 I noticed it too, how dark my bronzer looked when i changed the contrast on the photo. BTW- I do use bronzer on my nose…are you not supposed to? I always have?
thanks libbeh 🙂 you are too sweet!
pursuit of LLT- i wish i had that kind of money too! nothing is better than a long-lasting blowout 🙂
looking forward to the hair tutorial, i am hopeless with blow-drying my hair 🙂
usually just wear it curly, but mine is prone to getting frizzy and messy looking.
such a cute b&w outfit!! love it!
thanks Mikaela 🙂 blowouts can seem like a lot of work at first, but I've got it down now to where I could probably do it with my eyes closed. Practice makes perfect, right ? 🙂
I apply bronzer to my nose too:) Just lightly down the bridge. If I apply it to my tip it is usually under my nose to contour it and make it appear shorter.
I just had a makeup artist tell me not apply it too much to the tip b/c it can make your nose appear more bulb-like.
anon- thanks so much for that tip. I am going to try that tomorrow because to be honest I usually just randomly powder it without thinking at all about being specific about where I apply it on my nose. Thanks again for the tip, hopefully it will look better in photos. 🙂
I'm saving up to buy a Canon Rebel. Currently I use a Powershot, but I put it on the "Kids and Pets" setting when not using a flash. That setting is meant for taking motion shots, so the shutter snaps more quickly (and if your hand moves, you might still come out OK). Sometimes I also set it on "continuous," so about the 2nd or 3rd time I can get a good shot.
amy- thanks for the tips 🙂
Your hair looks incredible Veronika! Great job on the blowout. I always make sure to get my hair done like that before parties and special occasions. As for the camera, if you want something kind of in the middle, between a basic digital camera and a fancy schmancy SLR, I would opt to get something like the Canon Powershot sx20. I believe it costs around 349. It is very similar to the Canon model I have ( so if you like how my blog's photos turn out you'll like this camera!) definitely check it out. The key things that differentiate it demo the camera you have now is it has a pop up flash, which is stronger, image stabilization which will prevent blurriness and a really nice zoom!
*differentiate it from (sorry for the typo!)
thanks for the rec, Kinsey! I am looking to spend under $500 so that might be an option 🙂
I love your outfit and hair today! I am looking forward to your hair tutorial post.
Your hair looks great!!! I wish my Monday hair looked like that, haha. Monday hair = 3rd day hair for me… =)
I love your dress and your hair. Can't wait for the tutorial!
I have a Nikon D-40 with a 18-55 mm lens. It's great- especially for a starter DSLR!

I've heard great things about the Canon Digital Rebel XT. I think KristenB from the CN board has one and loves it, might want to ask her about it.
V – that dress is absolutely adorable! Thanks for all of your OOTD's; they have given me much inspiration for my own wardrobe. 🙂
That dress is so cute, adorable outfit! 🙂 I have a Canon Rebel T2i and I love it, it's intimidating, and I'm still learning, but it takes fantastic pictures. Happy camera shopping!
As far as bronzer application goes (read the previous comments) you can apply it wherever the sun would hit you naturally-the bony prominences of the face and that includes your nose. I always recommend a W across your face {temple, cheek, nose, cheek and temple} and a 3 on the sides of the face {forehead blending into the hairline, temple, and down to the chin}. To avoid it looking it darker just make sure you are absorbing oil and shine with a pressed powder or oil blotting sheets before you use your bronzer. /if you skip that crucial step you risk looking darker and orange. My personal favorite bronzer, and the bronzer I use on my clients is NARS Laguna-it truly looks spectacular on everyone. I've done a couple bronzer posts on my site https://www.brebeauty.com/2010/04/15/the-bronzed-and-the-not-beautiful/ if you want to check it out.

Hi I just discovered your blog the other day.
I have a Fuji Finepix s1500 that my husband gave me for Mother's Day. It has face recognition & a bunch of different settings. What I love most about it is that I can take high speed continuous shots which come in handy when taking pics of my sons (who are 20months & 4 months old)

Sorry for the double post!
I vote for the Nikon D80, too. If that's out of the range you have in mind, consider the D60 or D40. I've seen very pretty pics from the Canon Rebel, as well.
Great outfit!
Canon S90. It's not a DSLR, it's considered an advanced point and shoot, and allows for manual adjustment of ISO, aperture and other settings that I'm still learning about it. I like it because it's small – it fits in my purse and I don't have to carry a camera bag. And it takes awesome lowlight photos, without a flash.
I also have a Nikon D-40 and I love it! Its the best investment I ever made.
Love this dress!
