Dear Dell Laptop,
You were my sun, you were my earth. I know it’s time to let you go but it hurts so bad. We’ve been together since my post-grad program where I used you for everything from writing papers, g-chatting all day and Skyping with my (at the time) long-distance boyfriend (now husband.) Oh Dell Laptop, how I long for the days when you were fast and your “N” and “Y” keys didn’t pop off randomly…the days when it didn’t take 7 minutes to load Photoshop and the days where you easily transitioned to one task from another. I’ll always love you, dear Laptop, even when you fail me. I kept you going too long, expecting too much from your old, wise soul. It’s time to part now and let you rest…your battery is so dead that you no longer work without being plugged in, and your hard drive has seen better days. I’ll never forget you, dear Laptop, but it’s time to move on.
OK, so maybe I’m being a little bit dramatic. Today my left mouse button stopped functioning on my laptop…it works to an extent, but I have to peck at it like a maniac. My husband has tried to take away my laptop so many times, begging me to use his (he never uses it, I am on it right now) and for so long I resisted, refusing to switch. My old laptop has all of my pictures and a familiar keyboard and tabs and…just everything. It’s tough. I feel like my entire life is on there.
I’ve had bad luck with computers. My computer that I used for my last two years of high school and all 4 years of University was given away by my mother (without asking me, of course) to some random family. It had every single paper I had ever written on it in that time period and photographs and videos I cherished (like videos of Lulu when he was a baby that I will NEVER get back.) I think that experience made me traumatized and really feel attached to my current computer. I have everything backed up on an external, but I feel a sense of loss…like I’ll never see the files on my computer again (even though I know that’s not true.)
Anyways, there was my ode to my laptop. I’m OK now, just had to let it alllll out.
I had an interesting experience today at Glo Sun Spa in West U (where I do my Versa Spa spray tans.) I tried out their moisturizing massage machine thing, and I think this picture says it all:
It’s like this space capsule machine that I’d probably describe as a moisturizing sauna. You do a 20 minute session and the thing vibrates when you’re in it which provides a nice massage. I don’t know that I’d do it again…it was okay, but it was just really hot and not as relaxing as you think it would be because the machine lights up and changes colors throughout the cycle (very distracting.) I also wish they had some kind of soothing music playing like Enya or something. That might have made it a bit easier to relax.
They say it extends the life of your tan if you do a moisture session prior to the Versa Spa tan so we’ll see how that goes.
Today I wore one of my favorite dresses- my striped dress from Zara.

Veronika – Love the nude heels you're wearing, which I've seen on you a few times. Can you tell me if they're comfortable?
I bought some gold pumps by Jessica Simpson a few years ago…and they made me want to cry after about an hour of wearing them!
anon- the are actually one of the most comfy heels in my collection. i won several JS brand shoes and have loved all of them especially comfort wise
i do have to mention the first day i wore them they hurt…the second day they were perfect. It just took me wearing them once to break them in.
My laptop is doing THE SAME THING! I hate it, because also like you, I've had mine since my first college days. I am horrible with technology in general. I know I should start considering getting a new one, but until it totally stops functioning, I'm just going to tough it out 😉
I just had to give up my computer that I have used for the last four years, and while it was a little sad at first, I can't believe I used that thing when it was in such bad condition. I love my new computer, and I am so glad that my old one finally died! Love the Zara dress…I wish that I had a Zara near me. I have never heard of that moisturizing massage bed…it looks interesting.
I'm going through the same thing right now with my computer. It's also a Dell and its been alive and kicking for 6 years (yikes!) and I think it's getting close to retirement. I've definitely lost pictures and papers and stuff before – that's never fun! Getting a new computer is always scary though. I'm so used to the way mine works that it will probably take me forever to get used to a new one, whenever that may happen…
lindsay- i've been using my H's laptop all night and it's all good 🙂 it's amazing how quickly you adjust to it. It just doesn't feel like MINE. He never uses it so it might as well be! I've already saved all my favorites and changed all of my firefox tabs on it.. 😉
My college laptop was stolen from my car (ok, what idiot keeps their awesome laptop in the trunk…? yeah yeah, me). It had ALL of my pictures and papers on it and I was so so so devastated. It still hurts thinking about it – you know, 4 years of memories! I feel your pain! =)
I think you need to get a MacBook! Ya know what they say… once you go mac, you never go back. 😉 If you're too loyal to the PC, the new Sony Vaios come in all kinds of bright colors with colorful keyboard thingys you can mix-and-match, they are so fun looking!
I love your hair today! Question: Are you pinning that small piece back with a bobby pin or something else?
Yep! I always pin the front back with bobby pins because otherwise it gets in my face
I know what you feel like. My father is a computer nerd and is constantly trying to update my computer and due to the fact that I am addicted to the Internet he gives me this different laptop that has NONE of my pictures or applications. Grr. I cannot believe that your laptop was given aways. I would literally go insane.
I got a laptop when I started college in 2003 and it had slowly been dying on me…mine, too, would get slower and slower when loading things up. My husband always used to tell me to just buy a new one because I would get so frustrated with it, but I wouldn't give in. Then one day in the spring of 2009, caving from the stress of planning my wedding, too little sleep, and a computer that just did not want to work, I got up, walked out of the house with my laptop in hand (still turned on and loading whatever it had been loading for the past 15 minutes), stepped out into the backyard, raised my laptop in the air, and smashed it down on the patio with full force. The most irritating part about that? Albeit the screen was smashed, the computer itself was still working!
I have since purchased a desktop, but I long for another laptop!
I need to get a skinny belt like that. I've always wanted to get one, but I never knew how to wear it/what to wear it with.. thanks for some inspiration! :o)
I love this outfit. That skirt is super flattering on you!
LMAO!
Sorry I steered you in the wrong direction with the Hydration Station! HA! Some things to note:
-You're fine doing 10 or 15 minutes. 20 is excruciating!
-You can adjust the light to any color or turn it off.
-You can adjust the level of massage.
-You can open the hood when you get too hot.
It really DOES extend and even out your tan, so don't give up on it yet!
lauren- thanks for the tips 🙂 I only have one week left of my Groupon…after that I'll probably go back to doing at-home spray tanning because I just hate paying like $40 for a spray tan when a can can give me 3 or 4 good applications for $10. I do love the Versa Spa though, it's great 🙂
VERONIKA- which spray tan do you use at home?
Lauren I use l'oreal or neutrogena airbrush
Hi Veronika-can you make a post with the application of the spray tan at home?
I am a new reader. Great blog. My hard drive crashed and I lost a ton of pictures…it was awful. An External hard drive is the way to go.
I work from home so I have no opportunities for fashion at home 9-5 — unless to please myself. But watch out when I have a Dr's appt or a lunch date. I unleash the fashion beast. I do, however, wera make-up (not tons_ but even if I am all alone.
I just started my own fledgling blog, if you are interested. Onyl about 2 weeks old so working on it…
