While cruising my YouTube subscriptions the other night, I came across a video by one of my favorite beauty and fashion gurus who happens to be a 14 year old girl from Austin. Yep, 14! She has really great style, makeup tips etc, so to me, age doesn’t matter as long as the content is good.
MeganHeartMakeup made a contest video recently to win a Marc Jacobs handbag. The moment I saw the bag in the video I frantically began an online search to see where I could by it.
I admired it in the store but I didn’t buy it on Saturday. I wanted to do my research first and see what the quality was like etc. One of my favorite bloggers from Strawberry Swing and Other Things recently got the black Hillier Hobo and there is a huge thread about it over on the Purse Blog forums and I just knew I had to have it.
As you all know, I love to wear a lot of black and white and this bag offers me the pop of color I need. It might not be the best color choice for someone who wears a lot of color, but for me it works. I was also able to rest-drive using a hot pink bag daily with my Kate Spade purse, so I feel confident about my choice. Plus, it totally screams “Veronika.”
After contemplating this purchase all evening, I decided I would reward myself with this bag using some of the funds I made in my recent blog sales.
I went to Nordstrom today at the Houston Galleria and got my lovely bag…and here it is:

I believe they size I got is the small/medium. I know the Hillier Hobo is also available in a larger size, but honestly, this size is perfect for me. Not too big, not too small. I am not sure if the color “rosie” is available in the larger size, but there are other styles of bags available in the same color including the MARC BY MARC JACOBS ‘Classic Q – Little Ukita’ Convertible Crossbody Bag.
I also used two Victoria’s Secret coupons I got in the mail this week. They were each for $10 off any purchase and a free pair of ruched panties. I ended up getting a VS PINK PJ set and two pairs of cute undies all for under $15 (all together it would have cost nearly $40 without the coupons.) The PJ set came with a cute v-neck tee and striped leggings:
The leggings also say “PINK” on the bum in hot pink letters (of course, LOL.)

I think the Rosie is perfect for you. The bag is actually the "classic" size, there is also a "huge" version (the one Jennifer Garner had in 'Valentines Day'), but the smaller sized ones aren't hilliers, they are 'Twisted Q Lil'. Personally, I think the Classic is the *perfect* size 🙂 I doubt you ever regret it

I love it, so glad you decided to get it. I bought a pink Coach leather tote a few years ago and every time I carried it I received compliments. I think you'll experience the same with this bag. I also have a kelly green Cole Haan leather bag that I've received tons of compliments on. I think people appreciate the pops of color and are just afraid to do it themselves. Enjoy your new bag!

jessica- I tend to use the same purse over and over for like a year so I don't know that i'll build my collection very quickly, but it's nice to have my first one 🙂

My first designer bag was a brown croc-textured Dooney about 10yrs ago. I loved it but tired of it b/c I'd have rather had the one w/ a bamboo handle that came out a bit later, and ended up selling it on eBay.
Several others have come and gone (or been packed up to bring out again later). These days I rotate between a brown Gucci horsebit hobo, a silver Coach satchel and a black studded Michael Kors hobo.
Goodness gracious that bag is beautiful. Great purchase!
My first designer bag was a Coach but before I got it, I contemplated back and forth about whether I wanted to drop that kind of money on a purse. Well, I did and I loved it so much that I even bought the matching wallet!
It's been about 6 years and I still use the bag every now and then. The wallet itself, I've been using since then and is still in perfect condition and looks just as new as the day I bought it. Just goes to show that you really do get what you pay for!

Love the bag! However I'm going to go off on a tangent – I find it very disturbing that a 14-year-old is wearing THAT much makeup and dressing like she's a 20-something hitting the club. I work in a shoe store and the little girls' sandals that we've received have no less than a 2" heel. 2 inches may not seem like a lot, but for a toddler or second or third grader? Please.
This is what is wrong with our society. There is no reason that a 14-year-old should be making herself up to look like that. Ugh.
ALSO – Why the hell is a 14-year-old buying a designer handbag (and where does she get the money to buy it? Prostitution?) & whoring herself out on the internet?
diana- if you take the time to watch some of her videos, you'll see that she's quite a smart girl and just likes to share her tips and tricks. I wore makeup in the 9th grade (i even recall wearing a darker lipstick- ick!)
I think 14 year olds nowadays just do grow up faster…not saying that's a good thing but I do think she looks quite natural and pretty versus the super heavy makeup looks you see on other YT channels.
I also have never seen her wear "clubbing clothes" on her channel.
either way, i think it's great that she is able to make money from her YT channel while being a normal HS girl.
diana- her family is very wealthy (you can tell be her house tour) and she makes money off of YouTube because she is a YT Partner. She makes money off of the ads that run to the right side of her video and also YT pays by how many subscribers you have and how many video views you have. IMO she's better than most 14 year olds…she's just being a girly girl who loves to talk about clothes and makeup and hair…she's not going to parties and getting drunk….

My first designer bag purchase was a coach. I loved it…so I had to buy another one this year! I keep saying I will get a smaller bag next time because the ones I have are just too big. I was definately nervous about the purchase! I wouldn't even take the first one out in the rain! HA!

My first designer bag purchase was my Louis Vuitton Speedy 30. I was nervous/excited/proud all at once. It was a great investment though because I still use it almost daily 10 years later 🙂

I bought my first designer bag two years ago (a MbMJ quilted patchwork dr. q groovee bag in black) and have used it daily for the last two years and it still looks new! I think MJ's quality is amazing.
It was funny, but the first day I bought it, I just sat it on a chair in my living room and looked at it. I was in awe! My H (then FI) thought I was nuts. I didn't even use and take it out of the house until two weeks later- I was too scared to "hurt" it.
I now have a Marc Jacobs Stam bag in nude that I love (a gift from my family) and I think I am "hooked" on designer bags and not sure if I can go back. I am like you, I only buy like 1 new bag a year if that. I would rather have one amazing, designer bag every year or two, than 100 other bags.
But get ready to plan your outfits around the weather! 🙂 I always check to see if it is going to rain and then I refuse to take the nude Stam- fearing it will get discolored. wet or ruined. I am not looking forward to retiring it for the yucky Chicago winter :(…..

Love your new bag – especially like how you it looks with both the longer and shorter strap – very versatile and easy to switch between.
Meganheartsmakeup is one of my favourite Youtubers as well – her makeup is very simple- and would enhance most anyone – young and old alike!
My first designer bag was a classic Gucci bag – bought it in Paris in 2004. I loved it at the time – but now – it's a little too "monogram" for me (it's dark brown over beige). I've picked up 2 more Gucci bags since then, a couple of Coach bags and a LV Speedy 25 (also got the same Kate Spade bag as you – but in white)…next on my wishlist – Chanel classic flap and a Balanciaga city bag.
Bags are my weakness – and I don't just buy and use designer ones – been loving Aldo bags a lot recently…I'm pretty good about switching out my bags frequently – so I don't feel guilty about getting new ones.

From then, my wonderful hubby has approved of 4 Gucci's, (1st one in Maui on our honeymoon) and my last bag was my dream bag, a Chanel! Omg it's gorgeous! I too am a pink girl. The bag looks fabulous and very versatile. Having the short strap and the over the shoulder strap is so handy, my favourite Esprit bag has them.

My first designer handbag was a Dooney and Bourke. Do you remember the multicolor logo bags that were immensely popular in 2003/2004? That was my first!
I don't know, it just annoys the crap out of me how young kids behave & present themselves these days. Kind of just went off of a vent. I can understand that maybe she is wealthy & makes her own money from her YouTube videos, but I just don't get why a parent would even let their kid wear that much makeup or own a purse that is that expensive at that age. My parents would have never let me leave the house with all that caked on my face, or wearing half the stuff these kids wear.

Diana- to be honest with you, I just really don't think she wears that much makeup or dresses inappropriately. I have seen much, much worse. I think she just likes fashion and beauty and happens to be good at applying makeup and styling clothes. I think times have just changed and technology is a big part of that. I commend her for being mature for her age (if you watch some of her videos about her personal life, you can see that) and I just applaud her for being somewhat of an enterpreneur at her young age.
I remember at 14 I sometimes wore really short shorts and tops that showed my stomach (not to school, I wore uniforms) and I did wear makeup too. I don't think Megan's channel makes her look bad, I actually admire that she shares her thoughts and reviews with the beauty community. I've always respected her on YouTube because she's smart and very positive.

My first designer bag was a tomato red Marc by Marc Jacobs tote. I loved and wore that thing out when I was finishing up a few classes for my bachelor's degree. I sadly don't have it anymore but think back fondly of the one bag that started my addiction. It's all Marc Jacobs fault!!!
