It’s HOT in Houston. The weather man predicted that there will be record-breaking highs this week. Thank goodness for air conditioning (even though it makes me freezing and thus I have to wear layers and bring sweaters everywhere I go.)
Today I opted for a top I haven’t worn in awhile and a simple black skirt.
Ruffled top- Forever 21; Skirt- Target; Shoes- Aldo; Open-Faced Cardigan- Charlotte Russe
Now onto a product rave. L’Oreal Elnett Hairspray
. Most of you know that I am NOT a hairspray person…but I had to get something to hold Saturday’s birthday curls in my hair and my best friend Candice recommended this product.
Elnett
is a cult favorite and became available in the US about two years ago, I believe. I really love this hairspray. It feels light and it isn’t sticky. You almost can’t even feel it in your hair, which is incredible. It’s a bit on the pricey side (I want to say I paid $14.99 at Walgreens for mine) but it’s a really big bottle so I imagine if you don’t use it daily, it would last for quite awhile (perfect for someone like me!)
I really think that Elnett is a wonderful hairspray for people who don’t like hairspray..and while we’re on the subject of hairspray, I am going to post the YouTube videos that feature my favorite “how to curl your hair” tutorials (I used Tiffany D’s for my birthday look- though hers turned out my better than mine, I’m still learning.)
Another great tutorial for messy curls is by GlassSlipperBeauty:
I’ve decided I need to start curling my hair more often. One of the reasons why is because I love how it looks on the second and even third day.
I took a quick (bad) photo of my hair on Monday. It hadn’t been touched since Saturday night when I had initially styled it. I didn’t even touch up the curls and I had slept on it for 2 nights and spent a day at the pool with it on Sunday.
I thought my hair looked pretty darn good for not having touched it for a couple of days. I believe I did use baby powder on the roots, but that’s it. I just love curls as they get messier. I think I might try to curl my second day hair and see how I like it. I really love wavy hair for the summer, it’s easier to maintain than a perfect blowout, especially in this humidity! ick!
And before I go, thank you to all of the wonderful people in my life who gave me pretty birthday and anniversary cards. I love displaying them on a ledge where our dining table is 🙂
Do you like to curl your hair? Do you have any fave tutorials for hair styling? If so, post them below 🙂
xoxo,
Veronika.
I curl my hair several times a week. My hair texture is naturally wavy, so it is just easier to go with it.
I watched GlassSlipperBeauty's messy next day curls video earlier today and I LOVE the look she created. Next time I do my hair I might try the way she does it.
Hmm, I never really get around to curling my hair that often, but after watching these tutorials, I really want to start! Sometimes on a lazy hair day I put my hair into a high voluminous ponytail and take a couple of pieces and curl them to give the illusion that I actually did something! I really adored that ruffled shirt, it is really cute and unique!
Wait– when you say that you didn't "touch you hair" do you mean that you didn't even comb/brush it? Or you just didn't style it?
Looks great!
Jenn
jenn- I literally didn't touch it. I used a brush on just the roots in the morning to smooth it but I never ran the brush to the ends of my hair. I pretty much just let the waves get a little messy and worked with it 🙂
Loving that ruffly top Veronika! I've always been drawn to tops like that but figured they'd look unflattering. I like how you tucked yours into a skirt.
I followed Tiffany's curl video this weekend for my posts coming up this week and it was so cute for about 2 hours. I have thick heavy hair combined with the Florida humidity—it fell out. It still looked nice but the curls were gone. I'll have to try this hairspray–thanks for the rec.
great video recs. I actually have curls right now 🙂 from the over night buns. I love how it is a mutdi day thing too!! And I JUST bought that dry shampoo from the 2nd video literally like one hour ago….lol
*multi day
That's a great top V!
This hairspray is a classic, I don't use it often, but it works great. I agree–your hair looked amazing Saturday night and the lasting power is hard to argue with.
I love big curly hair. Gretchen Rossi's, in particular, even though it's a bit pageant-y.
I love that Forever 21 top! My hair is too short and thick to hold curls for long, but I'm inspired by the videos, and maybe the L'Oreal hairspray could help out! Thanks for sharing them!
That F21 is so cute! And your hair looks great. Wish mine looked like that after not touching it 🙂

Are you not much of a jewelry person? You alway seem to wear the same key necklace. It didn't look like you had much jewelry on your tray in your room either.
i love that hairspray! i just bought a small bottle last weekend and it gives the perfect hold without being too stiff:)

anon- I guess you can say I like jewelry but I tend to stick with the same pieces until I get tired of them. I do love accessories…I wear earrings (studs) my Michael Kors watch and my ering and wedding band everyday…sometimes I will wear a necklace.
I do tend to wear the same stuff though because I like to keep it simple. I have more jewelry inside of my actual jewelry box but it's stuff I don't wear as much.

YAY
I love elnett too, its great, doesn't leave my hair all sticky and unpleasant to the touch while still holding pretty well. You should def. give curling your hair a day or two after washing a try. I find that my curl holds the best when I curl day old hair. Yours looks great for two nights sleeping on it- your so lucky (mine turns into a rats next most of the time when I sleep on it)!
love that top too 🙂
Hey V, I emailed you about the cake last week & won the battle with my cake lady- yess!! Also friended you on facebook. My sister unofficially follows this blog & when I decided on a color scheme sent me your wedding blog. ANYWAY! She (my sister) sent me a thread from the nest today & by the time I logged in it was locked. boo! I just don't understand why people have to be so hateful. I'm glad you're living your life and that you do what makes you happy. It is now on my to-do list to check out la roche-posay products. 🙂
I curl my hair 2-5 times a week…well wear it curled I should say. Like you, I like messy curls and lucky for both of us our hair holds them pretty well. Now it takes me only 5 min longer to curl my hair as it does to straighten since I do it so often. I'll have to do a post about it, I know you've asked recently and I have started one. You look great in that top too!
hey ashley- yeah some women have nothing better to do with their time I guess! seems they are always talking about me or this blog once a week. I'm used to it by now and I actually find it really funny that they'd waste their time reading my blog and commenting on it when they dislike it.
Oh well, you can't please everyone (and trust me, those are people I wouldn't want to cater to with this blog.)
xoxo
I love your hair with the curls in it! If I had your hair I'd totally wear it like that! I'm still waiting for mine to grow out enough to wear I can do the curls. I love the tutorial on cupcakes & cashmere, its the only one that made sense to my (uncoordinated) self.
I honestly don't know how to use a curling iron, but until I cave in and learn I stick to my heated velcro rollers and LOADS of the Elentt hairspray. I normally despise hairspray, but I have slept on that stuff after shellacking my head in (thick hair requires lots of spray to hold curls!). And when I wake up, it's almost like it's not there anymore. No stick yucky residue. Yay for products that deliver!
I hate throwing out the jealousy card but you are a beautiful woman, and you dress well. I haven't seen any outfit on you that is too revealing for work, and you always look nicely polished and professional. Most women cannot pull it off and in turn waste their time cutting you down to make themselves feel better. It screams of their insecurities. Keep smiling!
Thanks for your comment Betty. I don't know if people write mean comments because they are jealous, I just see it as they either have nothing better to do with their time or enjoy attacking people because it makes them feel better about themselves.
I just think it's wasteful to make such comments because at the end of the day, they don't do anything but make me laugh. I also don't see how my work clothes are unprofessional. I'd like to see how these women who insult what I wear dress. Let's see them put themselves out there to be judged. But they'd never do that…because they only like to judge others 🙂 that's the catch!
Also, I feel sad if some of these ladies who make such hateful comments are mothers.
I've always wanted to purchase that hairspray, but I can never remember if L'oreal still tests on animals (I know they used to, but may have changed that in the past few years). Any idea? I'm pretty psycho about only buying products from companies that don't animal test.
I curl my hair every other day…I don't wash my hair everyday though. Well….that's not totally true. I run alot and get pretty sweaty so the second day I wash my bangs and the sides and then do a ponytail that day. The curls stay in nicely from the day before and then my ponytail looks great! And the extra volume from the previous days 'dirt' gives it umph. I will have to try that hairspray…thanks for the tip!
