Last night my husband and I disassembled our old bed and slept on our boxspring and mattress. It was the best sleep I’ve had in awhile…I was probably super exhausted from pool days and birthday celebrations.
We picked up our new bed today and though our room makeover is not 100% complete, the result is beautiful. I can’t wait to show it to you (thanks for helping us pick up our bed in your truck, Todd!)
Here’s what we got for the room:
3. West Elm Rope Circles Decorative Satin Pillow (these are from the same line we used on our couch)
4. West Elm White Lacquer Tray (I used this to display and hold my jewelry)
5. West Elm Parachute Duvet Cover (white)
7. Z Gallerie Silver Dollar Floral accents (I need to get more of these, I’m obsessed! They are only $2.95 a stem!)
Here’s what our bedroom looked like before (the old bed frame was from JC Penny- it’s a replica of a Pottery Barn bed, I believe.)
Now to the AFTER photos:
Phew! That’s a lot of pictures (you can click to enlarge if you want to see more detail.)
I really love the new bed and we are both thrilled to have gotten rid of the foot board! Can’t wait to sleep in it tonight 🙂
I’d still love to add a few accents to our bedroom including mirrored side tables, a large mirror above the dresser and other little touches, but those will all come with time 🙂
I was iffy about the duvet cover we bought, but I absolutely LOVE it. Once it was on the bed I just felt it was perfection. I wanted white, but I also wanted something with texture so it would be a little more interesting. I knew the guy from West Elm was right! He was also the one who encouraged me to go with the white bed frame when others told me to go with the dark brown. I am SO happy we got the white. It’s modern, fresh and adds brightness to the room.
I chose darker bed sheets because I like the way it contrasts with the white duvet. I also like how the dark gray bedsheets match the headboard. I think it all balances out beautifully.
Overall, I just love the direction our bedroom is going in. It was the most neglected room of our home and I’m just really happy we finally made our room more “us.” It just feels clean and fresh and airy now. More elegant too. When we first moved into our home, we couldn’t afford to get new everything right away, so we started with things we had before and bought some inexpensive furniture. Now, 3 years later, we are finally on our way to having the home we always hoped for.
I really feel like the way your home looks can affect your happiness levels. I love coming home everyday and seeing things I love and having a serene and relaxing room to sleep in. I’m a very visual and detail-oriented person, so every little touch of decor makes a difference to me.
Thank you so much for reading and thank you to my lovely husband for such an amazing birthday present! <3
xoxo,
Veronika.
I love the new bed, very luxurious! My boyfriend and I would have a hard time getting up every morning if we had a bed like that!

Wow that looks nice! I love West Elm. Im glad you had a good birthday!!
Looks awesome! We have a new bed coming on Thursday. I really want white bedding but with a dog and a dirty man I don't know if it will happen. I'm really thinking we should have just gotten bunkbeds.
Oh, and I have those sheets too. I didn't like them at first, but they do soften up nicely after a couple washes.
saw it on FB. Looks awesome!
Beautiful! Where did you get the white vase?
Awww Veronika, your new bedroom looks sooooo nice! Even looking at the " before" pictures I thought it looked great, but what a difference a few new things can do! West elm is awesome!
I love your new bed – your room looks like it belongs in a boutique hotel!
You're really good at interior design. I would love to decorate – but am waiting until we buy our home…and I may have to hire someone LOL – I'm not good at putting bits and pieces together!
I love it! Where did you get the white vase?
I think our bedrooms are the same color!
Plum Smoke by Behr?
Looks great!
Are you going to put the paintings that were above your bed back up somewhere?
gorgeous!! I have always loved west elm.
Love it!
wow, i think it looks great. I agree, I love the white frame. and the white bedding contrasting with the greys looks great! . Enjoy your new room
It looks great! I love that headboard, and I love all the accessories you picked.
Looks fab! I love, love, love your color scheme. That dusky lavender is amazing!
your b day gift looks very comfy!

anon- the white vase is from Marshalls. I believe it was under $15.00.
Michele- our paint color is "smoked oyster" by Benjamin Moore 🙂
Hi Veronika! I just discovered your blog through 9to5 chic and love it! I especially love your duvet cover. Did you consider using the pin and tuck one from westelm? I have been lusting over that for months and might finally need to make the plunge:) Be sure to check out my blog too:

sara- I will definitely check out your blog 🙂
I did see the pink and tuck duvet cover, but to be completely honest with you, it reminds me of those wedding gowns that have pickup skirts (which I personally dislike.) I think on a bed though, it might look good, but it reminds me so much of pickup skirts that I just passed on it.
have a great day 🙂
looks perfect! I love white/gray together for bedding
I LOVE the new bed !!!
Oh my goodness, it is beautiful! I'm so glad you didn't end up going with the brown cause this looks amazing. I love all the little touches you have in your room like vases, flowers, jewlery box etc… it all ties together so well.
aww thanks blondebunny 🙂 I think it's fun to add little elements to a room and use things like jewelry and perfume bottles as decor…they are so beautiful you might as well display them 🙂
I am super excited to see your bedroom because – no lie – we just decided to do ours in those same colors last week. It looks GORGEOUS! 🙂
Are you gonna put the 3 pictures back up above your bed or no? I just love them, and I think they go even better with your new bed/accessories!
anon- we are not going to put the pictures back. I just want that wall to be clean for now 🙂
hey Veronika! looks nice, i love those little silver dollar floral accents. zgallerie has the best floral accents, love that store. Im decorating my guest room and cant decide between grey, white and purple(fav color) or grey, white and yellow. The only thing with the yellow is that its hard to find the right shade sometimes.
your room looks great! where did you get the duvet cover (looks like maybe a damask print) in the "before" pictures? I love it! Thanks.
anon- it's from pottery barn but isn't available anymore 🙁
Love the re-vamp on your room. I am looking to paint my hallway a nice deep grey and love the color in your room – do you recall what color and brand it is? Thank you 🙂 Kristin
kristin it is benjamin moore "smoked oyster"
Thank you soo much! – Kristin
I was going to write you on The Nest but couldn't remember your name on there. I am thinking of getting the West Elm White Pintuck duvet cover for our bed. Did you see it at the store? If so, did you like it? How is yours? We don't have the store around us so I would have to order on line. You can respond on F&B ( if you don't mind) or on here.

I personally like the one we got (the parachute style) more than the pintuck because the pintuck reminded me of wedding dresses that have pick up skirts and I tend to dislike that style (no offense to anyone, of course). Having said that, i don't think it's horrible or anything, I just didn't want that duvet because of what it reminded me of (the skirts on wedding dresses that have pick-ups. I think if you like it that's what matters most. I like a textured duvet better than a non textured anyways because it brings a little dimension to the room 🙂
Thank you for your quick response. I do like yours too. I am just looking for a romantic look for our bedroom but I know what you mean about it looking like the pick ups on a wedding dress. How is the quality?
I like the quality 🙂 It washed and dries well and the shape is holding up too (like the folds to get that parachute look remain intact) 🙂
How do you like your West Elm bed frame? How would you the rate the quality?I am thinking about getting the same one you have or the Tall bed frame in white but with the new Ivory Tufted leather headboard. Just undecided which bed frame to go with.
anon- I absolutely love it! it looks chic and sophisticated 🙂 the quality feels good to me!
Hi Veronika – Thank you for posting pics of the West Elm headboard. I am considering the same headboard for my guest room but I'm undecided about the color – otter or sand…? It's difficult to see the color on West Elm's website. Would you mind providing a description of the otter color? Is it a true dark gray with neutral undertones or does it have undertones of green? It's looks like it has olive green undertones in the catalog and on the website but again, it's really hard to see. I'm planning to use in a more traditional room where cream and ebony Bergere toile is the accent fabric.
Thanks so much for your feedback.
Cindy
cindy- it does NOT have a green undertone at all IMO. it's a true gray. I wouldn't say its a dark charcoal gray but it's not a light gray either, it's right in between.
I love your west elm bed frame! I was wondering if you're using a box frame along with your mattress or just the mattress alone? I want to get this, but i'm worried about the height.
Linda- yes we also have a boxspring under our king-sized mattress. It is not too high, IMO. The headboard is so tall it still shows nicely.
Can you tell me which sheets from Target you purchased? They look fantastic with the duvet!
I don't remember the brand of the sheets but I think they were about 50 or 60 dollars and they are in the bedding section towards the back where they have tons of different sheet sets. sorry aobut that, I didn't keep the packaging…but they are pretty much the only sheets of that color in the store to my knowledge.
I love what you did with this room! I'm considering the same headboard, but the description on the website doesn't match what is in the store at all! The website says 49-55" tall, but in the store it looked huge and I measured it at 62". Also, the description online says cotton basket weave, but in store was more like a microsuede. If you have time, could you tell me how high yours is from floor to top, whether you used the short or long legs, and what the texture of the fabric is like? Thanks a million!
courtney- the fabric is most definitely a soft micro seude. We used the tall legs to make it as tall as possible. I am not sure how much it measures all together but we have very high ceilings if that puts it into context in the photos. We also have a kind mattress and boxspring on the bed 🙂 good luck!
Thanks Veronika! Am agonizing over this and can't seem to decide – love the look overall but am concerned about the height. I don't really mind if it's microsuede or cotton basketweave. Just wish I could see it in our room without the hassle of ordering, unpacking etc. Appreciate your quick response though!
courtney- i honestly LOVE taller headboards, they make a statement 🙂
I agree, but my husband is a little ambivalent. It's hard to coordinate a bunch of new furniture from different places and make sure the proportions are correct etc. BTW – just went back and read some of your archives – love your style so appreciate the advice! May have to just take the plunge – worst that can happen is that we return it.
i think you'll love it! It's such a beautiful headboard- really gives a clean look to the room while still being soft and pretty. We just love it!
Just wanted to tell you that we got the headboard and….we absolutely love it (even my very picky husband)! It's sophisticated yet cozy enough to cuddle against with our baby girl. Thanks again for your advice – you were very helpful!
@courtney–I'm so glad you love it 🙂
I just wanted to comment on the West Elm "otter" color as I've just received the Henry Sofa in "otter" and love it! I was also a bit worried that the color wouldn't be right but to me this is a medium gray. In the gray tones that West Elm offers I'd say that from light to dark it would go "dove", "otter" and then "shadow". I hope this helps others when picking a color as I found your blog (and your comment regarding the undertone of "otter") to be very helpful when choosing my sofa!".
How has the fabric held up if you don't mind my asking?
The fabric held up great!
