Last night we went out to celebrate a friend’s birthday. It was hot and humid out all day, but by the evening time, the heat had come down a lot (but it was still crazy humid and my hair was a pouffy mess all night!)
I thought last night was the perfect opportunity to wear my black dress from Zara from a haul a few weekends ago:
Dress- Zara ($39.50); Shoes- Paris Hilton bow shoes (style: Senorita)
I also tried out the Bare Minerals Foiled Eye eye shadow. I lightly sweeped the lighter color over my lids. Here’s how it turned out:
Just a pretty, soft wash of shimmery color. I think it makes a nice impact without being too severe.
I really love the black Zara dress because it’s so simple but polished-looking. I also love the low back. PS- the pic above was taken before I left the house…so my hair was still straight!
I’m so frustrated with how my hair got so crazy last night…does anyone know of any products that will help my hair stay smooth (and straight) even in humidity? I am seriously considering having the Brazilian Keratin treatment done on my hair just for the summer so it’s more manageable. It’s pricey but maybe it would be worth the investment to get me through these crazy humid Houston summers. I also hear it cuts down on blow drying time. If you’ve had it done, leave me a comment below and let me know how it went!
Hope you all had a fantastic weekend!
xoxo,
Veronika
I know exactly what you mean! I'm in Houston as well and my hair was a disaster when I was out on Friday night. I have thought about the Keratin treatment as well but haven't made the commitment to plunk down the cash yet.
Oh, and I absolutely love that black dress! I shopped yesterday and stayed away from Sephora but after this post I might have to go pay them a visit this afternoon.
Enjoy your Sunday! 🙂
I've had the same problem my entire life with south Texas humidity and my hair. If you find a product that works, please post it! I've tried several de-frizzing and de-humidifying products, but none have been able to accurately tackle the rising humidity of Houston weather.
Sara- it's so frustrating because my hair is naturally wavy but the moment it hits humidity, it's over for me! I'm going to have to learn to wear my hair up!
If you find a good product please let me know! I am getting married in the Caribbean and am really afraid of my hair turning out frizzy.
i love the humidity – it makes my hair more voluminous when it is otherwise too straight! have you thought about just going with it? perhaps you can get a product to assist with the new texture. when i was on vacation i used the ghd sea spray to get my hair to go like this:

and it was made possible in part by the humidity.
i understand if this isn't a style you are after…just thought i would suggest.
by the way – the dress is fab on you. good pluck.
Is that last pic the pic of you after your hair got crazy? because if so it still looks seriously perfect.
I love that bare minerals eyeshadow… the color is so pretty.
thanks jennifer 🙂 I have considered going with my natural texture, but I just honestly like to have styled hair. Even if I wear it wavy or curly, it's styled to be that way. I don't like the way my hair looks if I let it dry on its own and just try to work with that. I just can't do it! I like to have control over everything, LOL. I used to use bumble and bumble surf spray when my hair was a bit longer.
I have been using Redken Outshine for several years with really good results. It's an HG for me.

MsHark- no, the last pic was before I left the house!
Thanks for the tip, Tara!
Oh OK! LOL! I was like, man if thats crazy I will TAKE crazy! Hahah!
My hair does not look good when I air-dry it either.. so I like, never do. If its wavy or straight its because I wanted it that way! I can't wait until my hair grows so I can start doing the subtle waves/curls again.
MsHark- I think I'm due for a trim. My hair is getting super bulky again and I need to have it re-layered a bit. I think the bulk contributes to all of that frizz! Plus, when hair is damaged it looks worse in frizzy weather. 🙁
I had the Keratin treatment done to my hair – love it!! It has totally gotten rid of all my frizz. I can actually leave my house with my hair still damp and though it'll wave a little, there's no frizz at all. It also made my hair a lot healthier, my hairstylist said it's because of the protein in it.
Great dress! Lovely as always, V!
Love the dress and eyeshadow! You always look great in all your posts.
I am in the same boat with the frizzy hair. I live in southwest VA and have tried several different frizz fighting products with no luck. Keep us updated if you find the miracle solution for this!
I feel your frustration! My hair is naturally wavy/curly and I can't stand to let it dry naturally. So it's either put up my hair at night or deal with the puffiness (which I HATE to do – I feel dirty from all the humidity my hair attracts when that happens).
How come you never wear your hair up in just a pony or a twist??? I have super thick wavy hair and also have to deal with humidity. I just wear my hair up. Otherwise it gets all poufy & looks terrible.
My sister has humidity and frizz issues. She got a Brazilian blow out and has had awesome results.
I also like Living Proof Anti Frizz Spray. You can get it at Sephora. It has worked wonderfully for me.
I don't think I've ever seen you mention shopping at New York and Company, but it's one of my favorite stores and they're doing 50% off everything this weekend – online and instores. Saw this skirt on their website and it seemed like something that's right up your alley!

Love the LBD!
And I am right there with ya sister! I hate my hair. Period.
And I'm really wanting to try that treatment as well so I am going to see if the boyfriend's sister (my stylist) knows how to do it!
I love that dress!! It's so cute, I need one immediately. For your hair have you tried putting a straightening cream or gel in it before you straighten it? Bumble and bumble makes a decent prouduct called "straight"not sure if it will work for you but it's work a try!
Love the black dress! I know just what you mean about the humidity, that's why I try to west my hair curly or wavy on those days. If I wear it straight on a humid day forget about it, all my work goes out the window and I'm a frizz ball.
That dress is SO HOT! You look amazing! Seriously amazing!
Love that dress!! You look great. I have given up in the battle with the humidity–living in Florida does that to you I guess.
that dress is amazing!!!! I don't think we have a Zara anywhere near here… what are the chances I could tempt you into shipping me one?? not sure what I have to barter with… delicious homemade gluten free blueberry scones?! haha… might have to call Zara and see what's what.
I usually wear my hair up or wavy during the summer. My stylist cuts my layers so that they make it easier to do both types of style, which helps a lot.
Kristen- I don't know if they have them anymore because I was just there Saturday and didn't see them…I will check the style number for you tomorrow and maybe if you call and they have it I can ship it to ya!
Janine- I feel really self conscious when I wear my hair up…I don't know why, but my hair is my security blanket. I know I need to venture out and try to wear it up more!
michele- that skirt is super cute! I do shop there once in awhile and I definitely LOVE skirts so I will have to check them out!
thank you for the nice comments about the dress everyone 🙂 it's so simple yet I imagine it would flatter a lot of body types because it kind of takes on the shape of your own curves.
I have a friend with EXTREMELY curly hair who had a Brazilian blow out and LOVES it. Her hair is flawlessly straight every morning when she gets up…she just has to run a brush through it.
You look amazing in that dress!..I love how simple it is.
xoxo!
I have the same problem with my hair & humidity! I've been using Joico's Humidity Blocker and so far it has worked better than anything else I've tried. We'll see once the weather gets way more humid this summer! I use it on my wet hair & then a little as a finisher on my dry hair.
I've heard mix things about the Brazilian blowout. I've also heard they use A LOT of chemicals so while it may be good now, it can lead to a lot of damage down the road. You already have beautiful hair so I don't think you would need it! : )
I live in Baton Rouge & the humidity is awful! I hated to walk out the door this weekend it was so bad!!
I have to second the anonymous commenter before. I would be very cautious about getting the brazilian blowout, or at least research the products they use in detail. There are a lot of ones out there with formaldehyde in high quantities and it is not safe.
anon- I would never use one with formaldehyde don't worry :)I've been researching online a lot before I actually take the plunge!
