I’m blogging so late in the evening tonight because I just got back from Bikram Yoga and ate some dinner. The 90 minute classes definitely take a huge chunk out of your night. I decided to try doing 10 sessions in 30 days, which is what the studio recommends for the most benefits.
Bikram Yoga is difficult. The moves are intense…it makes you realize that you’re not quite as flexible as you once thought. You know, most people are really taken aback by the heat of the room when they do Bikram (105 degrees or hotter)…but for me, it’s not the heat, it’s the intensity of the poses that makes it so difficult. I actually kind of like the heat. It feels kind of grossly refreshing…like you’re just flushing out all of the bad energy in your body. You come out of the class completely drenched in sweat. There’s no way around it, it just is what it is. So I’m going to try this for a month and see how it goes. I’ll try to give weekly updates of how I’m doing in the class. The nice thing is you can rest and not do all of the postures if you feel overwhelmed. I did most of them today, but I definitely listened to my body and did all I could do and stopped when I felt a little bit lightheaded.
You know what’s odd? My hair looks less frizzy after Bikram than it did on Saturday night when I went out! How crazy is that? It got a little wavy, but it doesn’t look as pouffy as it did on the weekend. I mean, don’t get me wrong, my hair does NOT look good right now, but it’s not super frizzy or anything.
Now for my OOTD: Today I wore my new Club Monaco stripped skirt to work with a simple black tank and cardigan.
I swear to god Veronika, you must be the only woman in America who can pull of horizontal stripes on her ass and still look fantastic!
L-O-V-E Bikram! It's definitely my favorite yoga practice by far. So glad you are doing it (I thought you had before, but I guess that was the hot yoga class you took). Bikram is so therapeutic IMO, I literally did it 6 times a week for years, it becomes addicting. The heat didn't bother me whatsoever either, I loved it!
You look great as usual!
LOL- thanks Michele!
Andi- I'm hoping to be able to stick to it and just work hard. I really want to see if I get results from this or if it's just hype.
The club Monaco skirt looks adorable on you! And kudos to you for signing up to do the bikram yoga – I don't think I could do it! I think you will definitely see result from 10 classes, and if anything, improvement in your flexibility! Keep us posted.
So excited to hear about your experience with Bikram Yoga. A studio near my home has been offering a month long membership for free! I have been hesitant to try it though because I was afraid I wouldn't physically be able to keep up.
Olivea- you don't have to do the class in full. When you get tired or dizzy you can lay down for several of the postures and just breathe it out 🙂 don't be scared! The class I went to today was the most diverse fitness class I've ever taken. Tons of people of all different shapes and sizes.
after the first couple of classes you learn to embrace the sweat.. I sweat buckets, and it is kind of yucky but as you said very cleansing.. feels like you are really detoxifying – definitely saw a difference in my flexibility – hope you enjoy!
man. That sweating like crazy does sound nice. Like you're cleaning out everytihg. I have not worked out it way too long.
Where are you taking the classes? The place I do yoga at here in Houston doesn't let beginners in their Bikram classes – I've only been doing it 6 weeks.
Supre cute!! Birkam yoga scares me, good for you!!
Lovely skirt and I see you still wear black!!!xi xi 🙂
I have never tried Yoga! I probably should 😉
You look so pretty in your new skirt! Love it! ♥
congrats on starting Bikram V! Can't wait to hear how you like it after a few more classes
V-My 60 year old mom does Bikram 6 times a week and you could bounce a quarter of her butt! It works. Plus it's an amazing healer because of the organ massage and other health benefits that take place. I am definitely starting it again once the kids are in school.
stacy- it's the one in West U, I think it's called Bikram College or something?
Love the new skirt! Very cute!
As for the Bikram Yoga, I don't know how you do it! I went to a spin class earlier at the gym and it was slightly warmer in the spin room than the rest of the gym and our whole class was about to pass out. I was very shaky after and don't do well in the heat. Good luck with it and definitely keep us updated, I wish I had that kind of endurance! Congrats! :0)
peridot- the thing about the Yoga is that it isn't like an intense cardio session or anything. It's postures and a lot of it is standing and then there is some mat work where you rest between all of the moves. So while it's super-hot, you're not exerting your body or trying to push it to breathe through intense cardio. I hope that makes sense! I can't do spin if the room is hot either, I'd pass out!
I love the new skirt! I am going to my first true Bikram class tonight. I've been attending hot vinyasa, which is heated to the same temp as Bikram but it's not the 26 postures. The sweating is awkward but MAN- I swear my skin has never looked better. I'm glad you liked it!
katie- I hope to reap the skin benefits of the hot yoga as well 🙂
I used to do Bikram yoga…I'm not sure why I stopped LOL but you've made me want to start again!!
I love Bikram- I wish I had a studio that does it anywhere convenient to my current apartment I would do it all the time. It really does feel so cleansing- you'll definitely see great results in your skin and your overall well being doing it 10 times in a month.
Interesting about the B.Yoga. Never tried it, but would be interested.
Strange about the hair – nice though!
The skirt looks great.

My mom loves hot yoga! The place I am looking at to live in Beijing has its own hot yoga room in the building, how amazing would that be?!
Love the skirt! Did you buy it at Club Monaco or somewhere else?
Lisa- it is from Club Monaco. It was one sale for $39 from $129. 🙂
