This is a much-requested post so I’m so happy I finally remembered to bring my camera into the bathroom with me where I get ready in the morning.
This is my daily “eye makeup” routine, step by step.
My first step is to apply MAC’s studio finish concealer on my lids, and then powder my entire face with MAC’s Studio Fix foundation (a powder.) I didn’t show this step. I love using concealer on my lids. It evens them out and is a perfect base for everything.
OK, here we go:
1. Curl eyelashes– Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler
2. Apply Benefit’s “Eye Bright” pencil
(this pic shows it un-blended, I blend it out using my finger)
3. Use Bobbi Brown Gel Liner in “Black Mauve“
to line top lids– get as close to your lash line as possible (kind of like tightlining, but not exactly). I use a thin eyeliner brush (shown) or sometimes an angled liner brush.
4. Apply MAC’s “Blanc Type” eyeshadow to entire lid and brow bone (I just like to use this as a base and to brighten the entire lid)
5. Apply MAC’s “Brun” eyeshadow to my lower lash line with a slanted eyeliner brush. This gives a precise line. If you use too much, use a Q-tip to whittle it down a bit (make a thinner line)
6. Then, I use Anastasia of Beverly Hill’s brow powder in “medium ash” to fill in my brows
(I also have the pencil and use that on occasion too. I like both products) I also apply Maybelline’s clear lash gel to my brows to keep them in place (because otherwise, they look “absolutely tragic” as one of my lovely commenters pointed out)
7. I then apply L’Oreal’s Volume Collagen Mascara
to my lashes (I’ll also use DiorShow
when I feel like it)
and here is the result (sorry some of the pics…okay, most of them, are really really bad, but I hope they give you an idea of what I do)
So there it is 🙂 Pretty simple! As you all know, I very rarely wear eyeshadow during the day. I sometimes will use MAC’s Paintpot in “Bare Study” on my lids, but I didn’t today. I think this is such a simple everyday look and it takes no time at all. Last night I watched a couple of minutes of that show “Jersylicious” and boy do those girls wear a TON of eyemakeup (and makeup in general.) I’ve had comments on my blog before that say I wear “too much makeup” and that my “eyemakeup is too heavy” which always shocks me because unless you’re comparing me to someone who wears no eyemakeup at all, I think I keep it pretty simple. But hey, to each their own!
***I forgot to add that I use a black liner on my waterline. I use Bonne Bell’s “Black Ink” liner***Lining the waterline makes eyes a little more intense.

Here is what I wore today: My new J.Crew ruffle top from my weekend haul, my Express Editor pants, a Charlotte Russe open-face cardigan, Forever 21 skinny black belt and Aldo shoes.
I really liked this outfit. It was comfy and chic…though I did have to run an errand at lunch and it was SO hot outside. Not so great when you’re wearing a silk top!
Hope you had a happy Monday! If you have any questions about my eye makeup routine, please post them below. A reminder that I also have a Formspring at https://www.formspring.me/veronabrit, if you ever have a random question.
What’s your daily eye makeup look?
xoxo,
Veronika.
your makeup routine is great Veronika. the end result is very natural looking and pretty. as always, love your outfit! it looks extremely well put together and classy!
I LOVE your eye makeup look! It is simple, but gives definition! Mine is usually Bare Study paint pot, all that glitters on the lid, and a thin line of liquid eyeliner of the upper lash line! Thats all that I usually have time for! And as always, I LOVE your outfit too!
I LOVE your outfit, so cute! and I like the eye makeup, I do not like wearing a lot of shadow but that is just enough where its just right!
I love that color combination of slate grey with black. I wear it all the time!
I keep my day eye makeup pretty simple as well. Just a peachy gold shadow, a little bit of eyeliner, and some mascara.
I love your outfit!!! Looking great as always!
Your eyes are the most beautiful shape. Your eye make-up routine is simple and effective, very naturally beautiful. And you so DON'T wear a ton of eye make-up at. all. Love the outfit, great shirt!
Great Post! I've never had a good eye makeup plan, and yours has inspired me to try something new with my own! And you definitely do NOT wear a ton of eye makeup…you manage to make it look like you are barely wearing any!
thanks andi and sarabeth- I think people who make comments like that are just trying to upset me. I've never seen myself as someone who wears too much makeup or too much eyemakeup, so it's funny when someone says I wear a ton…compared to someone who wears none, i guess I do, LOL 😉
What a cute OOTD! I love the new J. Crew top!
awesome post, must go out and get benefit's eye bright asap!
GA Peach- it REALLY makes a difference. It brightens up the eye area a lot! I just use it under my lower lashes and also in my inner eye corner. Love it 🙂
That ruffle top is too cute!
Oh and you do NOT wear too much eyemakeup at all! If you wear a lot than I could be compared to a drag queen! lol
Oh, I love your eye look! I think I need that benefit stick, like, now- it brightens everything up and looks so nice. I have never had luck with applying anything but pencil eyeliner- what kind of brushes do you use? (Favorite brands?)
maria- I use manily Sigma brushes…and also MAC. The one I used to apply the liner (gel liner) and the eyeshadow on the lower lid are both Sigma brand. http://www.sigmamakeup.com
I don't have a tried and true everyday look – I tend to switch it up based on what I'm wearing (which means sometimes I use brown liner with pinky/beige shadow and sometimes I use black liner with grey/plum shadow. And some days, I simply use a touch of very light, translucent shadow and mascara. For night, I almost always play it up and do a heavier/smokier eye, but my husband recently told me that he thinks my ultra-lazy look (the translucent shadow and mascara) is the sexiest of all. WHOULDA THUNK IT? I always assumed he liked the sultry, smokey eye and it turns out…he doesn't. Or, he doesn't like it AS MUCH as the super minimal look.
Also! I recently bought a little pot of Sonia Kashiuk (for Target) gel liner in black and brown and I am completely sold! I've used regular WET & WILD pencil liner since the day I started wearing make up, but I am officially switching to gel liner. Totally loved how it looked AND the fact that it lasted ALL DAY with no fading or smudging!
Michele- I am a gel liner convert! I use a pencil on my waterline, but always gel only on my top lid!
Thanks so much! Your liner looks so pretty that I might have to try the brushes. I am thinking I might just get the whole eye kit now.
Also, Veronika – I think your natural coloring lends itself to people thinking you wear a lot of make-up. It seems like people with dark hair/eyes/eyelashes/brows just naturally look like they're wearing a bit of makeup even when they're not, and can get away with wearing just a little bit, while looking as though they're wearing alot. Meanwhile, pale blondies like me really have to layer it on in order to get the same impact.
I guarantee you that I wear at least twice as much make-up as you, yet people are always like 'wow, you don't look like you're wearing any make up at all!'
maria- the sigma brushes are a very good investment. I got the entire set…(face and eye brushes) I think they cost 60 or 70$ which is amazing considering some MAC brushes are that much just on their own!
good point Michele. I can see why people would think that! I guess darker features stand out more.
Okay, I might have to switch to gel liner too after reading this blog and the responses.
Oh, V- I LOL'd at the fact someone said your eye makeup was TOO heavy. maybe they should check out mine?? I'm no jerseylicious girl, but I love my plums, shimmery darker taupes and black eyeliner. Crazies!
Your eye makeup is darling and so pretty! My everyday eye is pretty neutral compared to me "occasion" look. Maybe I'll post my daily routine?? Good blog idea!
P.S. Thanks for the sweet comment about ur fab 29 year old friend who's single. I'm sure she is fabulous! Your comment made my night. Seriously. Kinda brought me out of the slump I was in.
Wow that Shu Uemura lash curler really works!! Your makeup is gorgeous and is not at ALL too much! I wear a very similar eye makeup look and I am very pale so it doesn't look as dark on me (I'm like Michele – I wear a bunch and ppl think I'm not wearing much at all). You're so lucky – I wish I had your coloring!
Great look! And I think its a great idea having your staple, everyday eye design bc you get really adept at it and can get out the door faster! 🙂 I may have to invest in the Eye Bright! And I love the combination of wearing gel liner on top and using powder on the bottom.
Btw, if you wear too much makeup then I am Tammy Faye Bakker. 😛 However, I do love to embrace my inner Tammy Faye now and again:)
Oooo, I love love that outfit!
I don't think you wear heavy makeup at all so I don't know what planet those people come from – who says that! lol I love the black eyeliner on the waterline. The eyecolor pops, it frames the eyes and the look become more intense (in a nice way ;)). Love it! Great job 🙂
xo
PRETTY outfit, I love it! your eye makeup is pretty neutral so I don't think its heavy at all. On ME I feel like eye liner is too heavy for everyday but thats just on me and I'm probably doing it wrong anyway.. LOL.
I've been using the SU eyelash curler for the past week – I love it! I noticed though your eye lashes are really long without any mascara even!
I love your outfit Veronika!!! SO cute!
prettyface- I'm glad my comment made you smile. My best friend is seriously my kindred spirit and I can't imagine life without her- she is single and fabulous! I don't know if she can find a man good enough for her greatness (but I do hope he's out there somewhere, of course)
msHark- My lashes look long because I curl them 🙂 trust me, without the curler, they aren't that long (or at least I don't think so.) I'm about to fill my perscription for Latisse.
That outfit is great!
Thanks for sharing your eye makeup routine! I agree with previous commenters…I don't know WHO could possibly say you wear a lot of eye makeup! They should see what I look like! LOL. I think your eyes look very natural and pretty! Just right!
Who would say you wear a lot of makeup?? I wear a lot of makeup LOL…I've been toning it down during the day for work though. Your look is very simple, yet pretty 🙂
p.s. L'Oreal Extra Volume Collagen is my favorite mascara ever!!
deanna- I have been told by various people online (on message boards, etc) that I wear too much makeup and my eyeliner is too heavy. Oh well! Can't please everyone. I love my eye makeup and don't plan on changing it! I'd like to see their eyemakeup if they think mine is too much!
Veronika,
I love your makeup! It looks very natural, but still has a lot of definition. Thanks for this "how to" post! However, I did want to say hold off on the Latisse. Some of my health magazines have been saying how users are starting to get side effects. Luckily, you have dark eyes, so it shouldn't make your eyes darker (like how it did for some people with green and blue eyes). I would still give it some time since it's still new on the market.
Thanks for the tutorial! I don't think your makeup is heavy at all. Very pretty. I love that Jcrew top on you, the way you styled it is super cute!
I love the step-by-step demo of your eye makeup. I like to keep my eye makeup simple as well…but I never line my lower lashline – as it looks too dramatic. I'm going to try lining it with powder shadow like you do, to see if I like the look 🙂
Your eye makeup reminds me of Cheryl Cole/Nadine Coyle's from Girls Aloud.
ella- I'm like obsessed with Cheril Cole! LOL. Love her 🙂 Thanks for the comment!
just wanted you to know that your previous blog posts inspired me to finally try some mac products. i bought mac studio finish powder & concealer, plus a few select shadows (satin taupe, wedge, cork, grain)and cream color base in hush. i think my next purchases will be some paint pots.
i love your eye makeup look. you look polished without it being too heavy for daytime. as i was reading the post, i was psyched to see that you posted pics with the steps. then i got to thinking that it would be even better as an instructional video, ala tiffany d. have you ever thought about doing a vlog?
You are so pretty & I love your outfit!
Visit my blog too if you want 🙂
robyn- I have thought of vlogging before and I might in the near future! It's just hard to find the time so maybe on weekends I'll have to experiment with my flip cam 🙂
OK so I must go get the eye brightener & gel eyeliner. I can't get eyeliner to stay on all day. Soooo annoying!! I think your makeup looks great!
Gorgeous girlie!! Enjoy your brows too- mine are so thin I have to always add pencil!
Awesome tutorial- thanks! What are you wearing on your lips? Love the glossy shine.
