Some of my lovely readers have requested photos of the Michael Kors zipper shoes and I finally have them!
Here are some professional photos from the gala we attended where you can see the shoes:
…and just because I think my hubby looks super cute in this pic:
Today after work I thought I’d finally preview the Brazil Butt Lift videos. I like to preview workout DVD’s before I actually do them so I know what to expect. I hate feeling caught off- guard and like I can’t keep up. I am low on energy today so I didn’t do the full workout, I just tried out a few of the moves (and now I’m sitting on the couch eating Pepperidge Farm Chocolate Hazelnut Pirouette Rolled Wafers.) Sigh. I can’t resist them.
Having made that confession, I am still working on eating healthier in general and my groceries reflect that. I am buying more snacks like baby carrots and bell peppers with hummus, string cheese, fruits (especially strawberries) and lots of whole grains and nuts (I am loving Kashi baked bars that are only 110 calories too!) I have been slacking in the workout department so I know I need to try and eat better to compensate.
What do you do to stay on track with your eating? Lately we’ve been trying to cook at home almost everyday and eat out only on weekends and sometimes Fridays.
I’ve also been preparing all of my snacks in advance. I buy a ton of fruits and veggies, chop em’ all up and put them into little baggies to grab to take to work. I’ve even gone as far as pre-cooking turkey bacon just to be able to eat something healthier in the mornings. I used to eat those Jimmy Dean low calorie breakfast sandwiches but as you can imagine, they are packed with sodium. I won’t eat lean cuisines anymore for the same reason.
Sorry I haven’t been doing any OOTD posts, my mirror is blocked right now because we are still moving some furniture so I can’t get a full-length shot. Those posts will be back soon!
Also, I try my best to answer as many questions as I can in my comments, but if you ever have a question, I’ve set up a formspring for that. You can click here to go to my formspring.
xoxo,
Veronika.
Those shoes are fab! I really want some strappy heels like those…
I'm not sure how I stay on track with eating. I just try my best to eat lots of fruit and veggies. But i also don't deprive myself. If I want a yummy treat now and then, I have it! I think moderation is key.
PS – those Kashi bars are great, I eat them all the time during the week!
I've been trying to keep on track with my eating by planning ahead as well. I make sure that I have enough fresh fruit and kashi bars to get me through the day.
We have been trying to eat in more during the week as well. I try to take something out of the freezer every morning so that it is defrosted when I get home so that I have to make it!
I'm fine staying on track with breakfast (eggs) and snacks (fruits, 100 cal snacks). But lunch and dinner are hard for me because I don't have time to cook! What do you have for lunch/dinner?
I pack breakfast, lunch and snacks for myself everyday so I don't buy unhealthy food at work. My husband and I plan our meals for the week every Sunday, so it is easier to have healthy dinners. One of the bloggers that I read started weekly weight loss checks-ins, so I am participating in that because it helps keep me accountable.
i try to eat at home as much as possible (this doesn't always work), but having fresh food on hand makes a big difference. if you can bring your drinks to you with work, then you can depend on the fact that you won't waste all on a super sugary drink (which is usually what i crave to get through the day, if I didn't plan ahead).
I'm going to check out that dvd, thanks!
For me the key is consistency…hey I mean we all fall off the wagon sometimes. I try to plan my lunches and snacks for my work day and I always ALWAYS pack my lunch. My favorite snack is cottage cheese with cinnamon and berries…mix it up and its just like dessert OR Granny Smith apples with peanut butter (something I can't and refuse to give up).
I too, eat at home all week and treat myself to a dinner or breakfast out on the weekends…I figure if I am good 90% of the time and other 10% is just to keep my sanity!
Love your blog- read it everyday! 🙂
One way I keep myself on track is to use MyPlate (https://www.livestrong.com/myplate/). I enter in everything I eat for the day, and it really keeps me accountable. Being able to see everything you take in all in one spot helps you determine what you need to cut back on, and what you need more of. I realized I was eating too much protein, and not enough (good) fat and carbs. I try to stick to a 40/30/30 carbs/protein/fat ratio. There are several food journal sites, but I definitely like this one the best. I tend to shop only the perimeter of the grocery store, staying out of the aisles where all of the processed junk is. I'm also a big believer in that a little bit of natural butter, raw sugar, olive oil, etc is a lot better for you than their lower calorie alternatives such as Pam and artificial sweeteners.
I do have a major weakness for anything bread-based like pastries, cake, etc. Everything in moderation, right? So I don't go overboard, I try to ask myself "How long would I have to…(fill in the blank with an exercise I hate) to balance this out?". That usually keeps me from gorging myself on cupcakes. Well, most of the time : ) Once you get into a good consistent habit of eating healthy, and you sound like you're on the right track, you will find that most of things you used to eat won't even sound good anymore.
I love those shoes! I have a very similar pair, but it has a cork bottom which makes them far less versatile, yours are such a better choice.
when I actually manage to stay on track with the health eating I find that its a) all about the planning and b) helps me when I think "hey your going to x this weekend/day and your probably going to drink/eat a bunch of empty calories there, so why not be nice to your body in anticipation for the garbage you'll later put into it.: Then, when I actually get to whatever junk laden event I'm referring to I often find myself not wanting to ruin all my prior healthy eating and find myself not overindulging. The exact opposite happens when I am eating like crap overall though and I end up being even worst at whatever the event it.
Jenn- very happy to have you as a reader!
Tara- I sometimes (but not consistently) do use the daily plate to track calories! I always end up with such a high percentage of carbs but I guess it's because I eat a lot of fruit.
Natalie- I totally agree- it's all about the planning. When I plan my meals, I succeed. I'm also not afraid to induldge once in awhile 🙂
Love the shoes! I've been eyeing a pair of BCBG ones that have a similar design…I might just go for them 🙂
As far as the food…it seems to be all about planning for me and eating at home. With that being said, I struggle doing those two things with my crazy schedule :/
Check out my blog post today –

It is ALL about meal planning and how to keep on track with your eating. Coincidence! I have some really great tips and resources to stay on track.
Great shoes!!
I LOVE those shoes! Everytime we go into Dillard's I have to pick them up and drool. I may just go buy them now, just get it over with! 🙂
I am the Queen of not eating healthy so I have on advice to give 🙂
You look great as usual and K looks awesome with some stubble, you're right!!
I meant "No" advice to give obvs. LOL
Those shoes are cute!
I gave you the Sunshine Award!
I LOVE the shoes V!! (I am getting all gossip girl on you lately! LOL)
Your hubby is super handsome! What is his heritage?
To stay on track with eating, meh, its hard. I don't know if there are any tricks other than to make sure you allow yourself a cheat meal or so. Don't be too restrictive. For me its just about making healthier choices and that isn't always SO bad. 🙂

steph- my husband's background is German.

I love your shoes! Great tips for eating/staying healthy. I try to make my own meals, use fresh ingredients and work out almost every day. You look stunning in these pictures!
I have nothing to add about the eating…I am terrible at meal planning (really need to work on that!).
I just wanted to say that your hair looks soooo good in that picture with your husband!
thanks so much Rachel 🙂 that's sweet of you!
Cute picture of you and your husband!
I think the biggest thing is planning ahead. I like preparing and cooking staples ahead of time like chicken breast, cutting up veggies, and planning dinners that are healthy but make great leftovers. (I am notorious for not liking them!) I think Lean Cuisines and the like have their place – starting good habits – but like you said eventually you will get tired of them and they are often full of not so great things. I bring my breakfast and lunch to work mostly to save money, but also so I know what I am eating is on plan and healthy. Also – nothing if off limits for me, just eating the right portions of it is key. Hope that helps – I could go on, and on!
Eating healthy all the time is hard! I have a huge sweet tooth, so I will make good decisions pretty much all day, but like to induldge a bit at night : ) I just went grocery shopping too–always have to go when I'm not hungry so I can make good decisions. Came home with a lot of fresh, healthy foods, but they are just so much more expensive! Seems like food in the "health/organic" departments hardly ever go on sale… I recently tried the "Eating Right" bars (in the breakfast bars area). They were surprisingly pretty good for the price. I got the raspberry/vanilla ones. Try them– I think you will love them!
Have a good week,
Rebecca
In love with the shoes! Do you wear them often? And I agree, your hair does look great there!
I have no advice. I try my best, but frequently end up eating too little because I'm trying to be careful and then starving later so over eating. Such a struggle.

My eating healthy strategy is to eat really often so I don't get too hungry all at once. I am often not hungry in the morning, but I always eat a small breakfast to jump start my metabolism– often a banana. At work, in addition to lunch, I have two snacks (one mid-morning and one mid-afternoon). I find that by never going more than 4 hours between eating during the day (usually 2-3 hours), I don't get so hungry. I pack my food and grocery shop with a "clean" eating model in mind– I don't go overboard and definiately allow indulgences, but I try to limit processed food and check the ingredients to avoid partially hydrogenated corn syrup. I also have an after-dinner snack scheduled so I don't feel panicked and eat too much at dinner thinking it's my "last chance" to eat for the night, but I usually don't eat it because I'm not hungry for it.

Hello! I just stumbled across your blog and I think it is adorable. I am obsessed with beauty products and I will definitely be back to read more of your posts!
I just wanted to tell you something though, you said you are buying baby carrots and just wanted to make sure you know not to buy baby-cut carrots. Baby cut carrots are cut down from deformed big carrots and soaked in CHLORINE….. you can read the information here on snopes. https://www.snopes.com/food/tainted/carrots.asp
Have a great day and good luck with the workout, I just got married three weeks ago and with working 40-45 hours a week I havent been to the gym once! Ugh!
Hannah
anon- yes those are the kind i'm eating! eppp! not good. thanks for the heads up…what kind of carrots should i be eating?

Hannah
