Before going on a long walk today with Candice, I went to Target to pick up some groceries. Of course I stopped in the clothing section while there and tried a few things on.
I’ll show you what I got first (and by the way ladies, Target has LOTS of super cute swimwear right now!)
I got this swim cover-up for $17.99. It is super soft and flowy. It has a super low plunge v-neck that ties with strings. Love it!
LOL, that’s my sports bra underneath it as I was trying it on!
The second thing I got was this top for $10. I ended up getting it in a dark bright royal blue/purpleish color…I am second-guessing it but I wanted to get something more colorful. I did like the black one too but I wanted a medium (for more length) and they only had small. We shall see! I’m not really sure how I plan to wear this…but I figure it would be cute as a swim cover up or with skinny jeans (you can pull it up so it’s not so long). Here it is in hot pink (again, with the sports bra…kind of awkward.)
This white detailed neckline top. I just felt kind of suffocated when it was on. I didn’t like how high the neck was. I just didn’t really think it was that flattering.
I also skipped this pretty printed tunic top. I actually liked it…but I just didn’t feel 100% about it I guess? Sometimes I hesitate before buying, even if the item is inexpensive. I can see this being cute as a shirt dress, but because of my height it’s just not going to happen!
Lastly, I tried on this workout pants. I didn’t love the shade of blue/turquoise on the waist and at the time I thought they were completely unflattering…but now that I see this pic I don’t think they look THAT bad…but I skipped em’. I always have a super difficult time trying on super-fitted pants. I always get insecure but I just need to get over it because the are perfect for working out.
Today instead of wearing my long LuluLemon pants on our walk, I wore plain black cotton tights from Target and they was super comfy. I think I’m going to start doing that more often. They are so lightweight and stretchy. I also think they can look flattering with a long tee or tank and runners. I don’t have a pic but they are the Xiliration brand ones that cost $6 or $7. What do you like to wear to workout? I usually wear long pants but if it’s really hot out I will wear my LuluLemon shorts. Now that I’ve discovered leggings as workout pants (thanks to the lovely Candice who introduced me to this) I may just invest in a pair from LuluLemon so that they last longer.
As always, thank you for reading! Also, let me know what YOU wear to workout in the comments below. Does it depend on the weather, the workout you’re doing, your mood?
xoxo,
Veronika.
Those workout pants are actually super cute! I hate to judge you but I will. I read your blog often and it bothers me that you are terribly thin and yet always seem self conscious and weight obsessed. I hope one of these days I open up your blog to find you more secure in how you look. I also hope that you soon realize that beauty fades and nourish other areas of your life and soul.
As for workout wear, I love me some lululemon togs!! I do alot of bikram as well as weight training and cardio at the gym and usually sport lululemon. I have yet to try out tights but will reconsider.
anon- I totally understand what you mean, and thank you for posting that comment.
I am hard on myself…I think most women are. I DO think and acknowledge that I am thin, I just tend to be self conscious about my hips and my thighs.
Those two parts of my body have always been my trouble zones. I think every woman has parts of her body she loves (I love my legs, my height, my stomach, my boobs, for example) and then parts that bother her (like I mentioned above.)
I think every woman, no matter what her size is unhappy with a part or parts of her body. I don't mean to offend anyone else when I critique my own body, I just don't usually feel comfortable in very tight workout pants. I just try to be honest and open. I would rather share my struggles than try to hide them.
anon- as far as "beauty fades" and "nourish other parts of your soul" – I totally agree Beauty is about so much more that how you look. That's why it's important to be a positive, kind person who helps others and tries to live morally. I definitely spend much more time working on my inner self than my outer (even though it may not seem like it.) This blog is about fashion and beauty, so that is what I focus on here. But there are so many aspect of my non blogging life that not everyone knows about that are definitely about the inner self.
I have that same swimsuit cover-up and I love it! I actually like the black and white top. I think it looks good on you. I may have to go check it out for myself. 🙂 Are the Xhileration workout pants pretty long? I'm 5'10" too but my legs are really long. I've found that the Champion C9 Longs are okay. I'd love to see you do a post on pants that you buy!
Oh a side note, what sports bra are you wearing?I've been trying to find one that dips in the front like that and it's hard. I like to keep the girls in place when I work out!
stephanie- it is lulu lemon but it's a discontinued style (I think it was called the lift and separate bra.) They have them at P8T stores now (it's like a deep-v front closure sports bra) so try there 🙂
the Xililiration leggings go past my knees on me. I will post a pic the next time I wear them.
Veronika, I second PART of the previous comment but I TOTALLY understand where you are coming from when you say that women have certain areas of their body that they wish were or looked better that being thinner, toner etc. As for the beauty fades part.. live for today, you do focus a lot on the way you look but that is MUCH better than always looking blah and worn out. I imagine you work full-time and have a husband also, there is just YOU. You want to look good for work, your husband and YOU. and I find that very admiring. I wish I were more like that. As I started reading your blog a few weeks ago, I honestly thought to myself, "I should do that and I should look into this." I too work and have a bf but there is also me.
I work in a law firm in downtown, where there are many people that dress very nice and professionally which is why I went shopping today and got some ideas from your blog. When I got home and saw the amount of bags I brought home, the only word that came to mind was, FINALLY. Finally I took the time to go to the mall and not just spend 80 dollars on one top and regret such a splurg, I went all over the place (with online coupons) and bought nothing but items that were on sale but walked away with bags full of goodies. 🙂
So don't be so hard on yourself or let people bring you down. YOU motivated ME.
🙂
I take a cardio-intensive class at the gym so I tend to wear shorts and a tank to work out and stay as cool as possible. I sometimes wear yoga pants on really cold days.
I actually really love that black & white top, too. It looks like it could work as a super cute beach cover up to me. I may look into my local Target to see if they have that.
Veronika, I think you are just a normal girl like everyone else, we all have things we feel self conscious about. I think most people can't help but feel self conscious in super tight pants! I'm thin and I definitely do too. We are all just human & we live in a world where everything is airbrushed and… no wonder we all feel this way. Anyway I personally realize this blog is just one small piece of your life and there is so much more to you than this.
anon- thanks for your comment! I'm so happy you were able to get so many great things for a great price 🙂 It does feel amazing to take care of yourself. I feel like when women are unhappy, a lot of it can stem from forgetting about themselves. I do work full time and have other responsibilities but I always make a little time each day to make sure I'm doing all I can to feel confident. If that means spending 20 minutes on my hair and makeup each morning, than so be it! 🙂
Thanks for sharing your story 🙂
I look like a total hag when I workout. lol. I have good quality clothes but I wear them to death. I often throw an old baggy t-shirt over my workout shirts because they are so tight I don't like always showing the world my curves.
I wear running tights (capris or pants if it's cold) all the time now, though had to get over feeling naked in them. I used to wear the target leggings, until one unfortunate race photo on a very sunny day…my shirt blew up just a little, and yeah…they were not as opaque as I had thought, lol.
The white top actually looks fabulous on you! You could wear it to work and then dress it up and wear it with jeans for a night out.
I really dislike the hot pink top that you bought in blue. It's very blah, not very stylish and does nothing for your great figure. I think you should return it and get the white top.
ashley- the pink tank/dress thing isn't supposed to really be worn that way. I think it would be cute as swimsuit cover up 🙂 It's kind of just loose and long. Boring, but functional.
I actually got a few cute swimsuit cover ups at Target last week. They had so many different styles to choose from. Unfortuantely most of their actual swimwear was pretty picked over, so I wasn't able to find anything that worked for me.
As far as workout clothes, I like to wear more fitted workout clothes so that I don't feel sloppy. I feel like I am more productive at the gym if I look cute! I typically get most of my workout pants from Old Navy, and I like to get plain white short sleeve tees from Target
I just wear black stretchy workout pants, a soprts bra, and a tank. I never change it up either, but I honestly don't care what I look like at the gym 😉 My boyfriend and I go together so maybe that's why I feel more comfortable and less interested in what others might think! On another note, I love Target!! I really like these dressing room posts too.
Phew I have not worked out in forever. I have been so lazy on the workout department ever since I quit soccer. I really need to get back at it. My digestive system and energy is really suffering right now. I know exercising would help. I plan to start next week.
I agree that we all have parts we are insecure about. Even I get insecure in tight pants. When I exercise I tend to wear tank tops and yoga pants or longer exercise pants.
I like the printed tunic, even though you thought it was a miss.
I get most of my workout clothes from Old Navy and Target. For running I wear cropped pants with a tank top and sweatshirt, since it is still kind of cold here. I just started doing hot yoga, so for that I bought some Old Navy yoga shorts. They make me kind of self-conscious since most of the women in class wear pants, but I think pants are uncomfortable in the heat.
Looks like a pretty successful haul from Target!
I own the first cover-up that you shared (the solid black one). I purchased it last summer for our trip to Maui and it ended up being one of my favorites. It's super soft and comfy without being shapeless!
I do like the other cover-up that you got & I think I'm going to have to head out to my local Target tomorrow to see if they have any in stock! I agree with the previous posters, though, that the black and white tunic looks great on you… the print is striking!
As for my workout clothes, I tend to wear shorts or black yoga pants with loose fitting (not HUGE, but a size medium) t-shirts (usually ones that I've gotten from local races). I'm a runner and spend the majority of my gym time on the treadmill, so I'm definitely going for comfort, but even more so, I have a large chest on a small body frame, so I like to be covered! ;o)
Those workout pants look really good on you and look super comfy! When I work out, I always wear a loose fitting tee shirt or tank top, and snug fitting Victoria's Secret yoga pants with a foldover waist. I always work out indoors.
As a follower of your blog. I have to say that I do enjoy reading your posts. But now i'm really starting to get annoyed with you. I think that you are the girl, that says to a girl who you know where clothes that are 2 sizes larger than yours. You are thinner than me just so that girl can pay you a compliment. That behavior is getting really old. It seems to me that all you want are comments telling you how skinny and pretty you are. Again I enjoy your blog. But the constant wanting reassurance is getting really old.
anon- why can't you post your comment under your real login? I'm not offended at all byt what you said because it simply isn't true. I would never try to fish for compliments by talking about the body parts I am insecure about. I was only adressing my insecurity because the pants I tried on were very tight/fitted. I have to give an honest review and sometimes that means commenting on how the garmet fits on my body and why it may or may not be flatterring. I am not wanting reassurance. I get that from other people in my life. I simply want to share my honest reviews of how ther clothing fits my body.
I have like 400 pairs of those Xhilaration leggings – they are perfect for working out and 90% of the time that's what I wear!
I actually really like that black/white shirt dress/cover up in the last pic
I understand feeling uncomfortable no matter if you are thin or not.
I am, by society standards, super thin (105 pounds) and I still feel super self-conscious.
It's part of being a woman. I dont think you are fishing for compliments.
Seriously, you are gorgeous and you have a great body! Every single time I see your posts, I tell myself that I need to work out.
I like the tunic top-cute!
Do you find that if you invest in workout close you are more likely to workout? I struggle to workout, I have lost my "post wedding fluff" by eating good- I know I need to tone up but don't workout like I should due to my schedule/lack of motivation.
Also, I understand where you are coming from with your honesty about your body image and I personally appreciate hearing a woman my age being so open. I am not un-happy with my body, I just know I look and feel better when I am tone.
southern chic- i absolutely feel more motivated when I have cute clothes to work out in! I know it's totally psychological but it helps 🙂
I also want to echo my thoughts on the second part of your comment. I'm the same way. I'm not unhappy with my body, jusr self concious at times of certain parts of it…especially when I haven't been working out as much!
Have a great day and thanks for commenting 🙂
i love the workout capris and black and white tunic! they look really cute on. thanks for being so honest about your body, i'm the say way…completely self-conscious about my hip/thigh area.
i'm a runner so i tend to focus on comfort for the long distances. i hate pants because i tend to sweat like crazy when running so i stick with nike shorts. and i love under armour shirts. don't you just love cute workout clothes? i'm much more likely to get moving if i have something new and cute to wear!
darling- i so agree! cute clothes=motivation! It's te same reason I love to decorate my home, it makes me feel happier 🙂
I think that having insecurities is real. Just because someone else thinks I'm thin and "don't deserve to complain" it doesn't make my insecurities or concerns less valid than anyone else's. I think it's good to share how we feel about our bodies. Sometimes, I feel great, other times I wish my thighs were smaller. I don't post about my body, weight or criticisms of my body every day, but once in awhile I will if it pertains to what I am posting about (ie: trying on skintight workout pants). It's just part of life.
Hey- I'm trying to find that b&w top online. Do you have a brand or a link for it? thanks!
sorry anon- i will try to find it when I get home. Not sure of the brand…maybe i should have gotten it LOL! everyone seems to like it!
I don't think there is anything wrong with being insecure! Everyone is insecure about something – I think it would be worse if you flaunted around saying how perfect you were! It's nice to know that even people who are gorgeous are self-conscious.
I love your blog and all of your fitness posts and Motivation Mondays are my favorite! They definitely motivate! 🙂
Hi Veronica!I started working out three months ago!Never done this before in my life but after having three kids I felt like I needed to do something for me too!!When I have the time ofcourse!Your posts are a motivation for me!!
And every woman feels insecure sometimes that doesnt mean that we all are inhibited!!!
I so love the first dress! Great pics btw you look great!
