HAPPY VALENTINES DAY! My lovely husband and I celebrated yesterday evening. We had an 8:30 dinner reservation at Americas, and let’s just say we didn’t eat until 10:00PM. I don’t understand why restaurants take on more than they can handle on a holiday, or why they let walk-ins be seated when there are people with reservations…but that’s a whole other story!
Despite the horribly long wait, we had an awesome dinner! Having said that, I feel kinda sick this morning. I think eating late combined with sleeping on such a full stomach was not the greatest idea.
My husband completely surprised me yesterday with the best gift ever. It’s so hard for him to surprise me because usually if I want something I just buy it or I tell him what I’d really love to have for a certain holiday. I’m pretty picky, so this is usually really effective. This year, he told me he had gotten something for me, but I had NO idea what it could possibly be.
He got me this Michael Kors watch:
Sorry the pictures are so awful, but it is gorgeous in real life. I‘ve always wanted a masculine yet feminine watch, and this one is perfect. Every time we shopped, I would always stop to look at Michael Kors watches, and I actually would have picked this one out myself. Luckily my smart husband consulted my best friend to make sure his selection was a good one 🙂 If you’d like to see better photos, you can see the watch here.
Thank you husband! I love it <3. I have to go and get it adjusted today though because it is pretty big on me. Once I can peel myself off of the couch I will go do that. And now, for my OOTD (Valentines Dinner Edition). I didn’t plan this outfit, it just happened. I thought to myself “a black dress is always OK for any occasion.” Plus, the one I wore is all lacy, which I thought was perfect for Valentines day:

I really love the ruffly, lacy awesomeness of that dress. Plus it was less than $30. I’ve actually worn it quite a bit since I bought it more than a year ago. After 3 glasses of wine, when we got home and I was snapping shots for the blog, my husband said “what about MY outfit of the day?” So I snapped a shot of his outfit too.
I’m also going to include some shots of my makeup look. I was able to snap a pic of the Maybelline Lipstick in “Born with It” that I reviewed in this blog.
It is such a soft, pretty beige-y/pink color. Love it! It looks so neutral on lips…more of an enhancer lipstick than a color lipstick (which is exactly the look I love.)
My eye look was pretty simple. I used a softy ivory eyeshadow from my Coastal Scents 88 warm Palette and another shimmery champagne color from that palette all over…then I used one of the soft light shimmery brown colors in the crease. I think I have that weird eye shape where you can’t even tell when I wear shadow.
I also used NARS’ multiple in “Luxor” on inner corners and brow bone. Then I used Bobbi Brown’s gel liner in “black mauve” to line my lid and bottom lashes and Bonne Bell eyeliner in “black ink” on my waterline. I’m also wearing L’Oreal Volume Collagen mascara on curled lashes. I LOVE this mascara and reviewed it here.
I wore NARS Laguna Bronzer all over and Bobbi Brown blush in “peony” on cheeks topped with MAC MSF in “porcelain pink” to add a shimmer/glow. Here are a few shots of the full look:
What did you do for Valentine’s day? Let me know in the comments below. Thank you for reading!
xoxo,
Veronika.
Haha your hubby felt left out! That's too cute. Happy Valentines Day! I may just run out and get that lipstick. It looks like a perfect balance between pink and nude. My husband and I went to a wedding last night which was actually a nice lovey-dovey occassion perfect for Valentines weekend. Today we are laying low, watching movies and eating a nice dinner at home. Have a great Sunday!

Oh and PS….thumbs up to your husband on the watch! He did a great job.
Happy Valentine's day!! You might need to include your hubby in OOTD posts more often!!! =)
I love the watch. Super girlie but not small ( I don't like small watches). I am going to check out that lipstick too 🙂
You look so pretty in your lacy black dress! I love those shoes too!!!
That was so thoughtful of your husband to get you that watch. Surprises are awesome. Sorry you had to wait so long to eat your v-day dinner, that's too bad. I think situations like that happen a lot over busy holidays.
xo
You are just so gorgeous! I wish my skin looked that nice up close, haha… What a great gift, too! My hubs got me "I Love You Man" which is what I was asking for for weeks, hehe…
I love that dress on you! What a great find! Sounds like you had a fantastic Valentine's Day. We are keeping it low key and trying out a new recipe for dinner and I'm making my husband cake balls for dessert!
Beautiful dress, and I love the accessories you paired it with!
LOVE the lipstick. I am going to have to grab some for myself also. My VDay pics coming soon! xo
Adorable outfit! You looked fantastic! Love that your husband wanted his outfit on the blog. Haha. And that watch is great, I love the masculine watch "look", what a great gift!!
We went out on a double early-Valentine's date last night and had an amazing dinner, and had a leisurely Valentine's morning/afternoon today. I tried to photograph my outfit and had some serious technical difficulties! LOL.
You look awesome and I love the watch..actually got a similar Micheal Kors one for my fiancee with a black band and he gets so many compliments on it..wear it well! Also, I may have to run out to get the lipstick too!
Sandra:)
Go K! He did a great job. I also love bigger, chronograph-y watches (I don't wear watches, but if I did it would be very similar to that!) Also, that lipstick looks fab and your make-up and skin look great!!
PS-and your hair is looking fantastic!
What a lovely post! You (both) looked amazing for your night out!
I totally think I have that eye shape too. . I spend so long on my eye shadow and then you can't even see it! lol
I like your dress and accessories. You need some help with your eyebrows. They look tragic.
umm wow anon, thanks for your comment. I like my eyebrows. I'm sure yours are perfect, which is why you can comment on other people's brows.
Well I am just being honest here. They need to be groomed and they could use some shape. The close up in the photo of your eyes is a clear example.
I think trgic is a bit dramatic. I love having full brows and won't pluck them any thinner because that, to me, looks tragic.
I'm not saying you need to go thin, just clean it up a bit. They are all over the place.
It doesn't look like you pluck at all.
Sorry! I like them the way they are 🙂 There are far worse eyebrows on this earth!
LOL I assure you I do. I just have really straight brows, they don't arch. I actually tweeze nearly daily.
I'm glad you can now take constructive criticism, sort of.
SEE?! You look soooooo much better when you smile! Now if only we could work on that pose of yours. Stand up straight! The baby doll pose was out in 1996.
I just write this blog for fun and to share fashion and makeup tips. I am not really looking for criticisms about my poses, but if you'd like to give them anyways, that's fine.
I realize in writing a blog i'm "putting myself out there" which I why I don't delete those sorts of comments. After all, they say more about you than they do about me.
Constructive critcisms make us grow as people much moreso than people constantly kissing our ass. But the ass-kissing it what seems to get you off. So be it.
LOL! The fact that you think we can "grow as people" by having our looks criticized is amusing!
Just for the record I only had something to say about your eyebrows the rest was someone else.
Anon 1 🙂
P.S.-Again I am just trying to help. Sometimes you can take some advice instead of always dishing it out.
Thanks anon. I agree with you-sometimes advice is great! One of the reasons I realized my hair was not looking its best was because of my readers. Now I have an awesome cut I am super happy with. 🙂
I never said the criticism had to be about looks, silly. Your comment right before this one proves my point that you don't always have to be so defensive when someone doesn't think you are as all-around fabulous as you think you are…someone gave you a contructive criticism about your hair, you ran with it, and now you're super happy with it, despite the fact that no one else seemed to notice and that made you a sad kitten.
love,
anon 3
Love the MK watch, I think I actually received the same (or else very similar) one from my hubby for Christmas. I have huge wrists and it's still big on me – did you have some links removed?
Also, your makeup and skin look great. Your eyebrows aren't unruly or tragic by any means, but I do think they'd look much more polished if they were brushed with a tiny bit of clear mascara on them to keep them all going in the same direction 🙂
s- i do brush them with a brow brush, but I don't use clear mascara or gel to keep them in place. I might try that. I was rushing so much that night that I may have messed them up pulling my dress over my head. Not sure. I do like my brows though, and usually I think they look more tame 🙂
I have thick eyebrows too and usually just use a tiiiny dab of hair gel on each one in the morning or else by the end of the day, they're going in like 10 different directions. The shape of your brows looks great on you, so I definitely wouldn't tweeze them anymore, sometimes they just need some help staying where they're supposed to!
S- maybe i'll try the maybelline clear lash gel. I'll let you know how it works. I would never pluck my brows any thinner because I actually think thicker brows can look better on some people (like me) but I do think it's good to have them in place. It could just be the way they are photograping too. In any case, thanks for the tip. I think brows are a super important part of any look and really are the frame of the face, so they ae important to maintain.
Veronika,
Looks like you had a fun weekened and a Happy Valentines day too!! I had a great one too got my hair cut finally! And did a little shopping myself got an adorable black cardi with ruffles of course and a gorgeous peach scarf which will look great for spring! Fun Valentines Day too went for dinner with my sweetie as well! Love your V-day OOTD, your makeup look and all your weekend purchases! Looking hot girl!
Leah
P.S I really dont understrand what some peoples problems are?? Why do you have to be so rude to someone you dont even know?? If it makes you happy to sit on your computer and place your judgements on others on the most ridiculous little things like how she is standing to make yourself feel better you are a sad individual!
Who said we don't know her?
LOL maybe it's the same girls who made fun of me in highschool posting these comments…in that case, they DO know me (or at least me almost 10 years ago!)
😉
I would have to agree the posts are about the "most rediculous little things"
I have slightly hooded eyes too which can make eyeshadow application tricky. I'm half Slovak on my mom's side, and almost all of the women in our family have that trait lol.
Ashley- I am full on Slovak! I think I just don't have a lot of lid space or something.
Oh, and LMAO at anon's comment. Your eyebrows look fine! I can't stand when women overpluck and over groom their eyebrows. Skinny eyebrows can make a woman look much older than her age.
ashley- my brows do look a little dishevelved in this pic…but tragic? LOL I think there are a lot of other pics on my blog where my brows look just dandy! I agree, thin brows do age people, especially when they are shaped poorly.
I would just like to say that beautiful women who are secure in who they are spread positive energy and compliments… so to all of these oh so brave anonymous critics maybe you should look inward and try to understand what makes you feel so inadequate in the first place.. leave this blog to the people who respect each other and enjoy sharing positive advice and experiences
Cheers
