Last night, they Jersey Shore’s “Snooki” was on Jay Leno, and when he asked her what her most prized possession was she said “bronzer and eyeliner.”
You can watch the video here (warning: it’s bad, as in “I sincerely hope this is all a hoax and she’s acting” kind of bad.)
Though “Jersey Shore” is the trashiest train-wreck on television and her interview on Leno was embarrassingly awful, I must say when she said “bronzer and eyeliner” I was nodding in agreement.
Those are definitely in my top 3 products (with the third being MAC Studio Fix powder.) I seriously can’t even imagine leaving my house without a little eyeliner and bronzer. As pathetic as some people may think that is, I really just don’t feel secure and put together without it. I follow the same makeup routine each morning (I alternate blush and eyeliner colors) and my routine makes me feel confident and ready to take on the day, so I don’t see the harm in it.
Some of you may have heard me mention this before, but I think I look so young and unfinished without eyeliner. I am literally addicted to it. I don’t remember the last time I didn’t wear it in some capacity.
Over the years I’ve switched from pencils to gel liners. I currently use MAC’s fluidline gel liners in “dipdown” (a dark warm brown) and “blacktrack” (black.) They are both incredible and have amazing staying power.
This weekend, I was at Neiman Marcus and became seduced by Bobbi Brown’s shimmering gel liners. I bought one called “black mauve,” and I love it. The shimmer/metallic-ness is hard to detect, and it goes on as a very dark brown with a purple/greyish tinge to it. I love it. It’s a nice change from my day to day dark brown (“dipdown.”) I only use “blacktrack” for the evening, as black can look a little harsh during the day if you line the top and bottom like I do.
I should mention that I use a flat brush to apply MAC’s “brun” eyeshadow on my bottom lash line. I used to use the gel liner, but it started to feel too severe for the day. I am trying to get over my eyeliner addiction, so softening up the lines made me a little more comfortable with less.
Now, onto bronzer. Oh the sweet warmth it brings to my skin. I use NARS Laguna which I have raved about so many times you guys are probably over it. In the past, I used Benefit’s Hoola bronzer and I loved that one as well (if you are looking for a matte bronzer, this is the one for you.)
I think bronzer does what other products can’t. Sure foundation evens out your skin, blush adds color to your cheeks and eyeshadow defines your eyes…but bronzer gives skin a marvelous warmth and energy. I also don’t remember the last day I didn’t wear bronzer. It is such an essential for me.
So if agreeing with Snooki is wrong, I don’t wanna be right ladies. Bronzer and eyeliner are certainly not my most prized possessions in life, but they are my most prized makeup possessions. What are yours? Please share in the comments below.
definitely eyeliner and studio fix powder for me. I feel like I look dead without eyeliner and I just bought my first studio fix powder yesterday and LOVE it. It has such great coverage and I feel so self conscious going out without foundation or powder because of my acne scarring.
I can't live without eyeliner, mascara, blush and foundation. LOL. I hope to lose the foundation as a must-have once I get my skin back into shape.
I'm defintely on board with the bronzer, but I'll trade the eyeliner for mascara. Today (which is a weekend day for me) I left the house in a tinted moisturizer, mascara and Benefit 10 (blush/bronzer combo). That's the minimum I'll do on any given day, but don't usually leave with less than that.
I'll say I must be really behind on the times here or just don't watch enough tv. I didn't know who this "Snookie" was, but I was rather irritated to see in a recent gossip magazine that a hairstyle I've worn off and on for years (though much better than this) has now been named "The Snookie". She's spot on with her beauty must-haves, but you wear them so much better!
I can't live without liquid eyeliner, although I am intrigued by gel eyeliner, I may have to try it. I also can't live without under eye concealer. I have the most awful dark circles under my eyes and nothing I've found yet has faded them naturally.
mascara and eyeliner are my 2 must haves
Haha, I loved reading this Veronika. I am right there with you on the eyeliner. I look completely juvenile without it! I also love my Shu eyelash curler. I dont necessarily need mascara every day, but I have to at least curl my lashes. Ok, and I also need bronzer and a little blush as well 😉 But yeah, eyeliner is at the top!
I definitely LOVE eyeliner and of course mascara to go with it. I don't wear makeup every day though like I use to.
One comment on "snookie" though…ok I know girls like her and seriously why the heck does she need bronzer when she tans like a lunatic anyway…it ends up making their face look much darker than their body. Its gross. I find the orange thing to be disgusting and cant wait till these women are in their 40s and have skin like leather.
So funny-I rarely wear bronzer and only wear eyeliner when I go out at night (which is hardly ever!) I use my shadow colors to create a liner look. I actually did want to try the Bobbi Brown Gel Liners though, the black mauve is the one I was looking at too. Let me know what you think of it please!! But I agree, I have to have some kind of make-up around my eyes too, I feel nekkid without it 🙂
Snookie is so trashy! I can't believe she is getting even 5 min. of fame from this show. Awful. Bronzer & Eyeliner = Love!
I have to agree with the eyeliner; it is a rare occasion when I'm not wearing it – but without a doubt my #1 is mascara — I feel young looking and unfinished without that item…but I'm starting to have difficulty parting without my bronzer as well – I've been saying for weeks that I'm going to get the NARS Laguna to try
…and snooki as well as the whole JS crew – embarrassing, seriously – don't these kids have parents, if I acted like any of them on tv for one milisecond my mother would slap the bejesus out of me?
Agree with eyeliner part but I have always used a soft pencil.
And I am curious as to how you apply your eye makeup. You should really do a how-to type video or something. Or maybe even photos of the steps. I am sure lots of readers would enjoy that!
Michelle- now that I have my Flip cam, I could make a video but I'm so nervous! I can cetainly do a step by step photo guide 🙂 I will keep that in mind for a future entry. It's really simple. I used a slanted eyeliner brush to apply the gel liner (after curling lashes) and then I apply the eyeshadow on my bottom lash line using a flat brush! sometimes i line the waterline with black pencil liner as well.
I am also a huge fan of Nars Laguna (when I am already tan, otherwise it can look at bit too severe on my normally pale skin). I like my Clinique Quickliner for eyes, and the only time I don't put it on is when I know I am going to be sitting around at home all day. But I think that even just putting on some blush (my everyday blush is Nars Orgasm) changes my face — just makes me look more awake and refreshed.
This is not related to your post but where did you get your black coffee table from?
anon- it is dark brown and cost about $50 at IKEA. Ever since we got that table, almost every single person we know who has seen it went out and bought one as well.
$50?! Holy moly! Hopefully I can find it on their website. Do you happen to remember the name of it?
Wait, I think I found it…
https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10065958
Is that it?
yes that is the one (but in dark brown!)
Snooki is such a hot mess. I do agree that eyeliner is essential. I look really young without it. If I had to choose one other thing I would go with undereye concealer, although I really have to wear eye shadow and mascara as well to look awake!
