Hair accessories. They can bring so much to an outfit or a look, and yet many women are afraid to wear them because they think it might appear too bold or cutesy.
I’m here to tell you that hair accessories are one of the best ways to pretty-up any look!
Ever since Miss Blair Waldorf wore hair accessories from jeweled headbands to feathery fascinators on Gossip Girl, similar styles are available everywhere.
A few of Blair’s most famous headbands were made by designer Jennifer Behr, but there are many more affordable options. Today I stumbled upon an adorable website that sells a pretty assortment of hair accessories, called True Birds. (click photo to enlarge)
Forever 21 has an incredible assortment of hair accesories as well- from rhinestone-adorned, bow-shaped bobby pins to feathery hair combs and floral blossoms both loose and affixed to headbands.
J. Crew, Club Monaco, and Bebe also have some gorgeous options if you don’t mind spending a little extra.
Do you wear accessories in your hair? I do for almost every evening occasion. I think it adds so much to an outfit and is a nice alternative to traditional jewelry, or in addition to jewelry.
I even wore a feathered fascinator made by Etsy seller LoBoheme on our wedding day (she was even kind enough to feature a few of our wedding pics on her website!)
I’m trying to be bolder and use embellished bobby pins during the day too (I’ve got ones that have little bows and flowers on them- you just have to be careful so they don’t come across as childish.)
Before I go, I wanted to tell you ladies that I wrote my second piece for Houston Culture Map. You can read it here. It was just a quick tidbit for a Christian Dior makeup event I attended and covered. I love DiorShow mascara and many of their other products (I am dying to try their Airflash Foundation but I need to justify the $60 price tag somehow!)
Thanks for reading, and I hope you are all having a great week!
xoxo,
Veronika.
Agreed–love hair accessories too.
Love hair accessories!! Please post more pics of you wearing them for everyday–I am still not sure how to pull that off completely 🙂
Hair accessories are quickly becomming a staple for me as well. I love having an alternative to jewelry to jazz up an outfit.
Regarding the Airflash foundation, a girl I work with recently bought some. She said that she loves the way it looks on her but doesn't feel like the staying power is that great. I just asked her if she felt like she would buy it again and she said that once she runs out she will probably move onto something else.
I wonder if hair accesories look good on short hair, oh I cant wait to have long hait
LOVE hair accessories; although I have a hard time pulling them off because I have very short hair and I do feel like they are too flashy on me…it's a work in progress
I definitely think shorter-haired ladies can pull them off! I actually think some styles can be MORE flattering on shorter hair!
If definitely takes some courage to wear bold hair accessories, but once you start, I promise you'll want to continue!
I love the Dior Airflash foundation. I only wear it for special occasions because I think its too much coverage for everyday use. I usually will set it with a powder, and I think it has great staying power. I bought it for 50% off when I worked for Clinique, but I think $60 will be worth it when I need to buy it again!
I'm loving hair accessories! I carry a couple of bobby pins (jeweled, bows, etc) in my bag in case I need to pull my fringe back or to the side. Almost everytime I go out on the weekends I have some sort of accessory in my hair. It's become a must for me!
I LOVE hair accessories!!! I also wore a Lo Boheme piece for my wedding…her stuff is amazing!
As for Dior Airflash…worth every penny! I agree with the above post that it can be a little much coverage for day (I wear Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer for day), but for evening, there is nothing better. It gives you an airbrushed look that is so easy to apply and lasts for hours.
I too wore a feather headpiece for my wedding (looked very close to yours). I loved it so much that I recently had Lo Boheme make me a custom one in black (with crystal rhinestones) to wear with little black dresses, daytime looks, etc. I love it and people always compliment me when I wear it!
By the way… I love your blog! It is super fab!
Hair accessories can really make an outfit complete! I love feathers and have gone to Forever 21 as well for their clips and bobby pins – as they have little decorative pieces on them.
I love bows on headbands as well, but have yet to wear one. I'm waiting for the perfect occassion to bring it out!
I just bought some flower bobby pins but I too don't know how to wear them without looking like I'm 12. Would you be able to post some pictures of hairstyles you've done with your bobby pins?
